A Thai monk, and acting abbot at a temple in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, denied bestiality and sexually abusing dogs, claiming the other two monks attempted to ruin his name. Several local news agencies in Nakhon Si Thammarat reported that a worker at the temple announced to locals that the acting abbot, 42 year old Daeng, sexually abused stray dogs at the temple. Channel 7 interviewed the accused monk, who insisted he was innocent. Daeng revealed that a temple worker, 78 year old Dam, announced through the speaker on July 14 that he engaged in a sexual activity with stray dogs. According to the monk, Dam did not reveal his name during the announcement but stared at him afterwards, making locals who came to make merit suspicious of him. Two monks also stood up to support Dam at that time. Daeng claimed that he was not involved in any animal abuse and believed that Dam and two monks at the temple were attempting to sully his reputation. Daeng added that he already filed a complaint against the three people for insulting him. Channel 7 interviewed one of the monks mentioned by Daeng via a phone call. This monk admitted that he had not witnessed the sexual abuse himself but learned about it from Dam. However, Dam did not have any evidence to prove his information. Thai woman killed by stray bullet after neighbours’ dog dispute Photo via KomChadLuek Two Thai men engaged in a heated argument over a dog which led to the shooting and death of a 61 year old neighbour at a rented room in the southern province of Trang. Two Thai men engaged in a heated argument over a dog which led to the shooting and death of a 61 year old neighbour at a rented room in the southern province of Trang. A 64 year old Thai man, Samran, was charged with intentional murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of a gun after the death of a 61 year old woman named Prakiab, living in a rented room next to Samran’s rival, Somsuan. Channel 7 reported that Somsuan’s young nephew threw a rock at Samran’s dog on Sunday, July 28, because the dog ran towards him and scared him. Samran then complained to the boy. “Why throw a rock at it? Has it bitten you yet? F*ck!” Samran and Somsuan argued before Samran left the scene on his sidecar motorcycle. However, the altercation did not end there, Samran soon returned to Somsuan’s rented room armed with a gun. Upon seeing the weapon, Somsuan and other locals quickly fled to their rooms and shut the doors to avoid danger. Samran then opened fire but Somsuan was unable to reach his room in time. In the ensuing chaos, Somsuan tried to seek refuge in Prakiab’s room. Despite Samran firing multiple shots at him, Somsuan managed to dodge the bullets. Unfortunately, one of the shots went through Prakiab’s wooden door and struck her in the head. A rescue team was called, and Prakiab was taken to hospital, where she later died. Samran fled from the scene after the fatal shooting before surrendering at Mueang Trang Police Station later that day. Samran’s wife revealed to Channel 7 that her husband loved his dog very much and took the best care of the animal. The wife added that Samran was a quiet person and had never argued with anyone before. The dog had never attacked or caused any trouble to people in the community either. KomChadLuek reported that Samran covered his face with a paper when he was accompanied to the police station. He refused to give an interview to the police and stated that he would speak only in court. A woman in Bangkok recently warned motorists on social media after a disabled man threw a rock at her car on Banthat Thong Road, on July 28. According to several online users, this wasn't the man's first such incident, with similar occurrences previously taking place in the Silom area. The woman posted a video showing the disabled man attempting to escape the scene in his wheelchair on her TikTok account, Reviewbyme89. She captioned the video as "A disabled man threw a rock at my car and tried to escape". She further explained that the rock had damaged her car. Despite clear evidence of the rocks on his wheelchair, the man denied his actions and refused to pay for the damages. She expressed her relief that the rock didn't go through her car's window, potentially causing injury to her. On calling the police to the scene, the man confessed to throwing the rock at her car because he was feeling stressed and irritable. The woman maintained she had never interacted with or even met the man before. She later posted another video from the police station where further legal action was being discussed. While some social media users criticized her for taking legal action against a disabled individual, others insisted she shouldn't pursue the case further. Several Thai TikTok users commented that they had seen the man in the Silom area, where he was known as a lottery seller and panhandler. Some claimed he was a compulsive gambler. The woman responded to comments revealing that the man had committed similar offenses over the past five years, but had not been prosecuted due to his disability. She claimed he was far from poor and had enough money to compensate her for the damages, but had not faced any legal consequences for his actions. A female gambler from Thailand is accusing the police and a card dealer of cheating her out of 800,000 baht. This is following a gambling raid in the Lat Krabang district of Bangkok. The gambler, identified as May, has enlisted the services of a renowned lawyer, Ratchapon Sirisakhon, to help with her quest for justice. May unveiled the alleged scam during a press conference alongside her attorney on July 29. May narrated how she met a woman at various gambling spots in Bangkok. This woman, in her fifties, invited May and her friends to participate in card games at her high-end residence in the Lat Krabang district, which they did. This woman remained the dealer throughout their gambling sessions at her house, which happened about four times before an incident of police raid on June 10. More than 30 cops stormed the premises amidst a gambling game. May and her six friends were hauled to the Lat Krabang Police Station thereafter. She stated the police claimed the card dealer's daughter had lodged a complaint accusing them of swindling the dealer of 10 million baht. According to May, she and her friends were coerced into repaying the card dealer by police who demanded their bank details on paper. Their savings totaling 2 million baht, were subsequently wired to the dealer's account, with May losing 800,000 baht from hers. While every one of them was booked for illicit gambling, the card dealer was not charged. Fellow gamblers concurred with May's belief that the dealer's loss was around 800,000 baht—a far cry from the claimed 10 million baht. Moreover, they claim they never cheated the dealer. May's group felt victimized, suspecting a collusion between the police and the dealer, given one officer's familial ties with the dealer. A police spokesperson refuted May's accusations, alleging her arrest, and those of her friends was facilitated by the dealer and her daughter who acted as informants. The police identified the dealer and her daughter as victims, having lodged a fraud complaint against the gamblers earlier. As per the police, the arrested group was involved in a plot to cheat others through their gambling activities. They found a hidden camera in one of the gambler's hat, evidence pointing towards their intention to cheat during gambling. Their strategy entailed defrauding their victims of money they'd later split amongst themselves. A man holding two knives wreaked havoc in Bangkok's Prawet district by assaulting local residents. The Thai police are finding it challenging to catch him and have asked residents to stay on alert as they continue to address the crisis. This incident was reported in some detail on the Facebook page of Nakorn 45 Anuwat Phoampai. “People ran for safety! On responding to an emergency call, rescuers were suddenly attacked by the patient they came to help in the Prawet area. The patient seized two knives and started attacking,” said the post. On July 30, the rescue team interviewed by reporters explained that they were initially called by the suspect’s mother to take her son to the hospital. At first, the young man seemed normal, but as they were preparing to move, he began acting unpredictably. He picked up two kitchen knives and lunged towards the rescue workers who were trying to move him. The sudden burst of aggression made the rescue team retreat and call the Prawet police for assistance. However, the situation worsened as the man became more unsettled, wildly waving his knives, according to one resident. “He was brandishing the knives and charging at anyone who crossed his path.” Despite the police's attempts to control the man, he managed to avoid being caught. He ran across several lanes of a main road, making it even harder for the police to arrest him. The situation is still not under control and the police are worried about the security of the nearby inhabitants. A police officer at the scene revealed that their main focus is to ensure public safety. “We're doing everything possible to capture him without causing more harm.” With the man still on the loose, local residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid the area until the situation is under control. Police vehicles are regularly patrolling the district, keeping close watch and responding to any updates. Phuket Authorities Destroy Fish to Stop Threat from Blackchin Tilapia File photo for reference only The potential threat of blackchin tilapia invading the waters of Phuket has prompted the destruction of 20 kilograms of the fish from local markets. The potential threat of blackchin tilapia invading the waters of Phuket has prompted the destruction of 20 kilograms of the fish from local markets. An environmental group, Monsoon Garbage Thailand, was behind this initiative. They acted to minimize the ecological risk the fish could pose if it became a part of the island's water ecosystem. Blackchin tilapia, originally a coastal West African species, was introduced to areas like Asia and North America. Now, it's seen as an invasive species in these regions. Monsoon Garbage Thailand sounded the alarm about this species through a Facebook post, calling for quick measures to stop it from infiltrating Phuket’s ecosystem. Phuket's Monsoon Garbage members decided to act on this concern by purchasing 20 kilograms of the fish from local markets. Then, they handed over the fish to Phuket MP Chalermpong Sangdee, who in turn, delivered it to the Phuket Provincial Fisheries Office for safe disposal. The Principal of Phuket Fisheries, Prayot Rattanawan, stated that burying the fish was the chosen method of disposal in order to avoid any chance of contaminating the local waters. He mentioned that the fish were imported by a vendor from Samut Sakhon. Chalermpong Sangdee, the local MP, echoed these concerns, stressing on the possible risk to Phuket’s ecosystem. A social media post revealed a vendor in Phuket selling blackchin tilapia at 50 baht per kilogram. As a result, the Monsoon Garbage group decided to purchase and handover the fish for destruction. Chinese officials are now advising sellers and residents to refrain from importing or eating blackchin tilapia in Phuket. The goal is to prevent the fish from becoming invasive and upsetting the local ecosystem, said Chalermpong. Chalermpong urged sellers and local residents to avoid importing or consuming blackchin tilapia in Phuket. He added that if the fish must be brought in, it should be processed by drying or salting to eliminate any potential risk. In order to prevent the importation of live or potentially harmful fish species into Phuket, local authorities are collaborating with the Department of Fisheries to establish regulations. The ultimate goal is to allow only processed fish products that pose no threat to the local environment. A Chinese visitor, who vanished after a late-night swim at Karon Beach last Thursday, was discovered dead on rocks near Freedom Beach in Mueang district. A fisherman found the body on Friday morning, July 29. Local police received an alert about the discovery around 9.30am, as told by Khundet Na Nong Khai, the head of Karon police. Upon arriving at the scene, emergency personnel found Qin Yuan lying face-down on rocks. They transported his body to Vachira Phuket Hospital for an autopsy. Thai officials reported that they had informed the Chinese consular office in Phuket about the tragedy. 27-year-old Qin was last spotted around 7.30pm on Thursday. According to Karon mayor, Jadet Wicharasor, a Chinese couple rented a surfboard on Thursday evening, returned it about an hour later, and proceeded to swim at Karon Beach even though it had become dark and no lifeguards were present. After being notified about her missing husband by the distressed woman, Karon local officials launched a search mission. Teams from local authorities, police, and the 3rd Naval Fleet all participated in the search, according to local representatives. "Despite our best efforts to ensure safety, people need to respect the warnings," a local official stated. Despite safety measures that include signage prohibiting swimming in four languages (Chinese, English, Russian, and Thai) as well as red flags used to mark high-risk areas, many people often ignore these warnings. The provincial Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that, including Qin's case, nine drownings have occurred in Phuket this year, five of which involved foreigners. This is despite the presence of 115 lifeguards across the island's beaches. A woman suffered injuries after a large steel plate crashed through her car windshield, slicing her cheek and neck while she was driving on an elevated motorway. The unsettling occurrence unfolded near the 19 kilometre mark on the Bangkok-bound side of the Burapha Withi expressway in the Bangphli district's Bang Chalong area around 6pm on Sunday. When police and emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found Pranee Rungsuksai bleeding from her neck and cheek with her car stopped on Thepharat Road under the elevated motorway. First-aid was immediately provided to the 52-year-old woman who had received slash wounds to her right cheek and neck before she was taken to a nearby hospital. Upon inspection, police discovered a hole on the driver's side of the windshield of her white Toyota. A steel plate measuring about 13 centimetres in width and length, and 2.5cm in thickness was found inside the car. Ms Pranee was driving on the motorway heading to Bangkok to pick up her daughter. She entered the expressway through the Bang Bo toll plaza and was driving in the middle lane with two pickup trucks running in front and to the right side of her car. Without warning, the steel plate hurtled into the right part of her windscreen and sliced her right cheek and neck. Shaken and in pain, Ms Pranee tried to remain calm, exited the motorway, made a U-turn and parked her car, where she then waited for assistance. Ms Pranee recounted that her car had been previously hit by stones but regarded herself fortunate in this instance that the metal plate did not strike her directly in the face. Four men suspected of being a part of a predatory lending group turned themselves over to the police on Saturday evening. The quartet was accused of physically assaulting a 72-year-old woman because she failed to repay a loan of 10,000 baht in the Chok Chai district of Bangkok. Commander Thanantorn Rattanapaksatid of the Metropolitan Police Division 4 stated the accused individuals, known only by their first names as Sophon, 27, Kenwit, 32, Natthawut, 27, and Sirisorn, 25, handed themselves over to the authorities at Chok Chai police station following police pressure. The group is believed to have attacked Siripen Opastiangtham on July 21. They reportedly struck her in the face and kicked her legs, risking her losing her vision. According to Commander Thanantorn, while Kenwit denied any involvement, the others confessed to the assault, stating they attacked her only once due to the delay in her daily debt repayment for July 20. Charges brought upon them include assault, providing loans without a license, and violent methods of debt collection. Furthermore, officers found Kenwit had two previous arrest warrants in connection to similar assaults on borrowers from 2018 and 2023. The issue came to light after Ms. Siripen lodged a complaint on July 20 and did not see any progress in her case. In search of assistance, she reached out to Ekapop Luengprasert, a consultant to the Interior Minister and creator of the Sai Mai Tong Rod Facebook page. Ms. Siripen mentioned she had taken a loan of 10,000 baht from the group after repaying a prior 6,000-baht loan from May. They demanded a daily repayment of 1,000 baht over 24 days.
