  8. In a shocking event, a 45 year old fruit vendor tragically lost his life after a gang of loan sharks terrorised and shot him right outside a convenience store. The victim’s girlfriend, 41 year old Saengduen revealed the heartbreaking moments leading up to the event, which happened on the evening of November 14. The storefront of Itthiphol (surname withheld), is located on Sukhumvit Road, right in front of a convenience store entrance on Soi Sukhumvit 109 in the Boonrath 2 Village, Moo 4, Plutaluang District, Chon Buri Province. The loan sharks attacked Itthiphol as he couldn’t afford to pay back 200 baht per day for a 10,000 baht loan. Saengduen explained that due to poor sales, Itthiphol was unable to make the interest payments for about two days, which amounted to 400 baht. She had promised the loan sharks to repay the amount as soon as possible and reassured them that Itthiphol had no intention of fleeing. The attack happened suddenly. A woman from the loan shark gang demanded payment, and a man handed her a gun. The woman shot Itthiphol at close range, and the man even attempted to stab him with a knife. 10. An incident of burglary at a roadside restaurant in Ban Bueng, Chon Buri, shocked the community today at 9am. The local police, led by Police Captain Suradet Imjai, swiftly responded to the scene. Their investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as 37 year old Sanchai, also known as Ton, was a familiar face who had been previously helped by the victims. The restaurant owner, a 46 year old woman, and her three year old daughter were the only ones present during the incident. The woman was bathing her child when she noticed a man entering her restaurant, helping himself to drink from the fridge, and placing them into a basket. Recognising danger, the woman managed to stealthily escape from the premises with her daughter and alert the neighbours who then informed the police. The police arrived at the Ban Bueng burglary scene to find Ton, a tall, thin man dressed in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, sitting nonchalantly on a rock nearby. Upon inspection, two sharp knives were found hidden on his person. The police promptly disarmed him and took him into custody for further questioning at Ban Bueng Police Station. 12. A traditional, unity-building football competition has sparked a social media outcry, with the hashtag #EndForcedCardStunts trending. The controversy started during the 30th Jaturamitr Samakee (Unity) Football Match held at the National Stadium in Pathum Wan district between four all-boys schools, namely: Suankularb Wittayalai School, Bangkok Christian College, Assumption College, and Debsirin School, from November 11 to 18. The biennial competition, aimed at fostering unity among the students of the four schools, also features a highlight event known as card stunt which has consistently drawn public attention. Despite the camaraderie and spectacle it presents, the event has been criticised for its harsh conditions, including the requirement for students to endure the heat and sacrifice their personal time. The first call-out came from Debsirin School. On the opening day of the traditional football event (November 11), reporters from various news agencies reported that a group of alumni from Debsirin School and youth activists were demanding the abolishment of forced student participation in card stunts for the event. 14. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has launched the CIB Anti Online Scam, a crackdown operation against a ruthless online loan scheme that has been running through various mobile applications. The operation, which took place at 11am today, led to the arrest of two key suspects and the discovery of more than 500 million baht in circulation. CIB’s operation took place across 23 locations in 10 provinces, including Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Chon Buri, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachinburi, Ayutthaya, Samut Prakan, Chumphon, and Trang. The operation resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals, including two key operatives, 37 year old Yuwathida, and 37 year old Veerayut, stated CIB officials. “These suspects were clandestinely offering loans or lending money outside the system through various online applications.” Those interested in borrowing money were required to register and activate the loan applications, which allowed the suspects to access personal data on the borrowers’ mobile phones. After completing the registration process, borrowers only received 55% of the total loan amount but were required to repay the full amount within six days. This equates to an interest rate of 7.5% per day, 225% per month, or 2,737.5% per year. Some borrowers even found unexpected amounts transferred to their accounts, which they were then forced to repay with additional interest, reported KhaoSod. 18. A 17 year old Thai girl accused a spiritual medium in the Isaan province of Buriram of raping her and sexually harassing her friend while performing rituals to wash away bad luck and evil spirits. The teenager, 17 year old Bee, revealed to the public that she and another friend were victims of sexual abuse by a 60 year old spiritual medium, Chatpong Jomkarnnon, also known as Ar Kong. The rape victim’s mother, 36 year old Gai, did not believe her story because she respected Chatpong and believed in his supernatural powers. Thai netizens criticised Gai for being superstitious and pressured her to file a complaint against Chatpong. Due to the pressure, Gai, yesterday, November 14, took her daughter to the Mueang Buriram Police Station, even though she still did not believe her daughter. Gai explained that she respected Chatpong and often visited his compound to attend various ceremonies. She took her daughter there and the spiritual medium told her that her daughter was about to experience an unfortunate event. Gai said Chatpong recommended that her daughter take part in the ceremonies to ward off evil spirits and bad luck and she allowed her daughter to do so. The ceremonies were performed in a pickup truck and she was not with her daughter. Gai revealed that her daughter told her that she had been raped three times in the pickup during the ceremonies. She did not believe her words because Chatpong was not that kind of person. She wanted to see the results of the medical examination. The results later backed her daughter’s claim, showing traces of rape. Authorities quickly intervened to inspect and safely dispose of the object, suspecting it was created by teenagers planning to use it during the Phimai Festival. The police station in Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima, received a notification from a member of the public about a suspicious object under a tree in front of the Special Education Centre, Education Area 11, Nakhon Ratchasima. The police unit 191 of Phimai Police Station was immediately dispatched to the scene. The object, a round device wrapped with black electrical tape, was found under a tree. Upon inspection, the police discovered that the device contained a mixture of cement, stones, gravel, and concrete debris, indicating it was intended to be a bomb, however, it was no longer functional.
