A Thai man turned himself in to police last night after he physically beat his wife to death in the dormitory of a construction site in the Thong Lor neighbourhood of Bangkok. Thong Lor Police Station officers were notified of the death of 37 year old woman named Irada Winyayong at 7pm yesterday. Upon investigation at the scene, Irada was found lying dead on her bed with bruises on her face. Her husband, 34 year old Jetsadakorn Thongchai, presented himself at the scene and allegedly admitted to beating his wife to death. Jetsadakorn revealed that he and Irada were parents to two children but that the children did not live with them. Both were employed as safety officers for the construction company and lived in the dormitory, a necessity dictated by the demands of the construction site’s projects. The ghastly incident unfolded after a night of drinking on September 9, when an intense argument, fuelled by Jetsadakorn’s jealousy, escalated into a violent physical altercation between the couple where Jetsadakorn beat his wife. They eventually retired to bed, only for Irada to awaken the next morning with pain in her ribcage. Tragically, rather than seeking medical assistance, the pair opted to go shopping at a local market after which they continued drinking heavily before succumbing to inebriation. Jetsadakorn recounted waking up that evening and attempting to rouse his wife, only to discover her lifeless body. Rather than fleeing, he chose to wait for the police at the scene, allowing a friend from the neighbouring dormitory to report the tragic incident. A tragic pedestrian accident occurred when a woman was killed by a pickup truck while on her way to the doctor. Despite the driver’s attempt to flee, a six-wheeled truck managed to block his escape. The deceased’s daughter revealed that her mother was heading to the doctor without informing her children as she did not want to disturb them due to their late work schedules. The accident involving the elderly pedestrian took place at approximately 6am today. Police Captain Somporn Sainin, a crime scene investigator from Bang Pakong Police Station in Chachoengsao Province, alongside Chachoengsao rescue units, investigated the accident near the entrance of Wat Hong Thong, an old Sukhumvit road heading towards Khlong Dan in Sub-district Two, Bang Pakong district, Chachoengsao province. At the accident scene, the body of the pedestrian, 72 year old Inthorn, was found lying dead in the middle of the right lane. The offending vehicle had fled the scene towards Khlong Dan, but a six-wheeled truck witnessing the incident managed to stop it about 2 kilometres away in front of the Learning and Processing Centre for Anchovy Fish in the Khlong Dan Sub-district of Bang Bo district in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region province of Samut Prakan. From there, the police were informed to investigate and coordinate with Bang Pakong Police Station. The vehicle that hit the pedestrian in the accident was an Isuzu D-Max, a bronze-coloured pickup with a Saraburi registration. Its front was damaged and the driver, 68 year old Udomphon, was apprehended. Phuket Provincial Police are accelerating the investigation into the recent theft and damage of power and communication cables near Phuket International Airport. The cables, located by the road leading to the aircraft control tower, were targeted by unknown culprits who managed to cut and steal them, leading to damages amounting to 50,200 baht. The investigation is being led by Police Major General Sermphan Sirikong, the Phuket Provincial Police Commander, and Sakhu Police Chief Police Colonel Salan Santisasanakul. The theft came to light after a meeting with local key figures, including Phongchai Munrin, Director of the Phuket Air Traffic Control Centre, who confirmed that the power cables were stolen overnight on August 25. The unidentified criminals returned five days later on the night of August 30, to cut the communication cables connected to the Phuket Air Traffic Control Centre. Despite the incident, the centre reported no impact on its functionality or its capability to guide aircraft during takeoff and landing at the airport. Intriguingly, the Sakhu Police were only formally notified of the incident on Thursday, September 7, with the complaint filed after images of a notice, imploring locals not to steal cables, surfaced across social media networks and Thai-language news platforms. An online video showing a car recklessly drifting in the centre of a major intersection, causing distress among residents, has drawn widespread criticism. The incident occurred last week and was shared recently by a Facebook user. The video depicts the car performing a dangerous drift stunt without any regard for the pedestrians crossing the road or other vehicles halted at the traffic light. The location was later identified as the Kiri intersection on Sukhumvit Road, Huai Kapi, Mueang, Chon Buri. That intersection is a main route towards Bang Saen-Si Racha and is typically bustling with vehicles. Forty-four-year-old Aek, a local motorcycle taxi driver, expressed his concern over the incident. He stated that although it appeared to be a deliberate act of drifting, such behaviour was inappropriate considering the amount of cars and heavy traffic on the main road. He urged individuals to consider the potential danger such actions could cause and denounced it as a bad example. In a truly ‘food for thought‘ incident in Surin’s Isaan province, a baffled Thai homeowner recounted an odd story involving a thief who swiped his food cupboard, only to ditch it nearby, all thanks to an unexpected ‘muddy munch’ venture. The Thai man, Weerayut Choowa, reached out to the Daily News to share his unusual story. Weerayut stated that he’d witnessed a thief stealing sacks of rice and other agricultural products before but he’d never seen a thief steal a food cupboard. The astonished Weerayut explained that he woke up to find his cupboard had disappeared from the kitchen. The theft was all the more puzzling because only leftover food, a rice cooker, and condiments remained inside the cupboard. Weerayut added that the cupboard also had a broken leg. Weerayut revealed that the cupboard was about 1 metre in length and 1.5 metres in height. If the thief acted alone, it would have demanded a lot of effort to transport the item out of his home. Weerayut said he was about the report the theft to the community leader and police when his neighbour stumbled upon the cupboard which was left near his house. The Ministry of Agriculture is planning to utilise the central budget to support farmers’ debt relief in case next year’s budget is delayed. The ministry is aligning its plans with the government’s policies, especially Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s strategy of reducing production costs. In an interview before announcing the policy, Deputy Ministers of Agriculture and Cooperatives Chaiya Phromma stated that the Ministry of Finance will be the main agency implementing the urgent policy of farmers’ debt relief. The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) will be responsible for planning and preparation. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin who also serves as Finance Minister, has discussed and advised the relevant agencies. The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a plan to support the farmers during their debt relief period and will continue to provide support for three years to ensure farmers can stand on their own. When asked about the limited remaining budget and the delay in the new fiscal year, Chaiya stated that the Draft Act of the 2024 Budget Expenditure has not yet been submitted to Parliament. However, the Ministry of Agriculture can make certain changes to some of its duties. A Thai woman demanded an investigation into the death of her 23 year old daughter who mysteriously fell to her death from the eighth floor of a condominium in Japan, just one day after her arrival. The mother, 48 year old Somporn, reached out to the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women yesterday, September 10, seeking assistance to find the reason behind the death of her 23 year old daughter, Thanaporn. Somporn disclosed that she could not travel to Japan to uncover the truth because of her financial status. Somporn strongly believes that her daughter did not commit suicide, as determined by the Japanese police. Somporn stated that Thanaporn went to Japan to work as a party entertainer to earn enough to support her mother in opening a beverage store and also to take care of her four year old son. Somporn explained that Thanaporn left Thailand on July 21 and she was unable to reach her since then. Messages sent through the LINE application remained unread and phone calls went unanswered. On July 26, Somporn said she received a call from the Consular Affairs Department saying that her daughter had died. Authorities in Japan reported that Thanaporn had fallen from the eighth floor of a condominium located in Isesaki City, within the Kanagawa prefecture. No visible wounds of physical harm or struggle were apparent at the scene, so officers believed she had taken her own life. From the security camera of the condo, Thanaporn was seen carrying her luggage into her room on July 23. However, a resident of the condo found her luggage outside of her room later on the same day. PM and Cabinet announce policies to the National Assembly BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Srettha Thavisin led a cabinet meeting to announce policies to the National Assembly, in accordance with Section 162 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1306302-pm-and-cabinet-announce-policies-to-the-national-assembly/ -
BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Srettha Thavisin led a cabinet meeting to announce policies to the National Assembly, in accordance with Section 162 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand. The key points are as follows: - The government aims to communicate its intentions and strategies to create harmony and unity in Thai society. This will lead to collaboration in the development of the economy, society, and governance for the well-being of all Thai citizens. - Currently, Thailand faces challenges in its economy, society, and politics, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation is far from stable, and no effective remedies have been implemented. Social and political issues persist without systematic solutions. - Over 30% of Thailand’s GDP comes from the industrial sector, focused on a narrow range of products. Exports have been in decline for three consecutive quarters, partly due to outdated technology. - Rapid technological changes are challenging the country’s competitive abilities and will dictate the economic landscape that the government must address. - Thailand is grappling with a household debt higher than 90% of GDP, a potential economic vulnerability. Additionally, public debt exceeds 61% of GDP, a potentially limiting factor for future fiscal policies. Chronic debt issues exacerbate income inequality, with more than 14 million people below the average income still awaiting state aid. - The agricultural sector, employing no fewer than 10 million people or one-third of the workforce, contributes only 7% to the GDP. This reflects low income-generating efficiency, causing the average Thai farmer to be in debt by less than 300,000 Baht per household. Currently, the sector also faces challenges from the El Ni?o phenomenon. -Socially, Thailand is transitioning to a fully aged society, with the elderly population constituting more than 20% of the total population. The challenge of developing human resources to replace this segment is becoming increasingly critical due to a consistent decline in the number of newborns. - Politically, Thailand is undergoing changes in law, governance, and a lack of respect for diversity, creating a worrying situation for society. Outdated laws contribute to issues of corruption and a lack of faith in the political and administrative systems of the country. -The aforementioned challenges contribute to poverty, inequality, and hardship for the citizens. Urgent solutions are required to create a better future for all Thais.
