A legal case involving a young woman who reviewed a toothpaste brand and was subsequently sued for 1.7 million baht has been dropped, causing a stir on social media. The young woman had earlier requested justice after developing an allergic reaction to the toothpaste, leading to the brand’s owner suing her for damages, sparking widespread debate across various social media platforms on consumer rights. The young woman previously reported that she was deeply affected when the lawsuit was served to her grandmother’s home, where she was registered. Her grandmother misunderstood the situation, believing she must have done something wrong to warrant a lawsuit, and ordered her to remove her name from the household registration. The situation caused distress within her family. The woman and her family had trusted and used the toothpaste brand for nearly two years, never anticipating this outcome for merely reviewing the actual impact of the product. Prominent lawyer, Ratchapol Sirisakorn, had previously stated that according to the law, a customer’s honest review or criticism of a product, whether beneficial or detrimental, does not constitute defamation. He suggested that pursuing such legal action is uncalled for, and the company should reconsider its lawsuit, opting instead for a conversation to clarify misunderstandings. Consumers should be allowed to critique products, as it can lead to product improvement, justifying consumer rights to express themselves reported KhaoSod. A 76 year old woman with Alzheimer’s was found in the company of her 86 year old husband who had been lying dead for four days at their house in the northeastern province of Bueng Kan. The old woman was unaware he was dead. It wasn’t until a friend took food to the couple’s house yesterday that they discovered the 86 year old, Kianghe Satjamankong, was dead. The friend, 69 year old Pitak Aikaew, called for Kianghe to open the door but there was no reply. Driven by worry, Pitak decided to enter the premises, and to his shock, he found his friend’s body decomposing near the bathroom. Pitak rushed to inform the neighbours and later reported the death to the police and rescue team. The neighbours informed Pitak that they had not seen Kianghe leave the house for a few days but did not check on him because he preferred his privacy to be respected and would complain if anyone stepped inside his premises. A rescue team arrived at the house where they found Kianghe’s wife, 76 year old Somsi Thipma, sitting about 2 metres away from the dead body. She was reading a newspaper and did not know that her life partner had died. A rescue team spokesperson reported that Kianghe had been dead for four days before the discovery. The rescue team questioned Somsi about Kianghe and she informed them that he was not home. Somsi said her husband was in the northern region of Thailand. She was home alone and already cooked food for herself. A 20 year old Thai woman announced yesterday that an abbot sexually harassed her at a temple in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat while on a meditation retreat. The abbot denied the allegations and accused the woman of blackmailing him for money. The woman recounted the incident with Channel 7 yesterday. She asserted that the abbot subjected her to repeated instances of sexual harassment during her nine-day dhamma retreat, prompting her to cut short her programme ahead of schedule. The woman claimed that she planned to stay at the temple for nine days to fulfil a vow she made after benefitting from some good fortune. One day, the abbot used his feet to poke her bottom while she was meditating. Then, the abbot inappropriately touched her face, causing her to insist on leaving the temple’s premises. The abbot denied her request, asserting that the auspicious time for departure was yet to come and urged her to wait for two days. While she was waiting to leave the temple, another sexual assault occurred. The woman stated that the abbot broke into her bathroom while she was taking a shower. She complained about his behaviour and immediately called her mother to pick her up at the temple. Jian Qi was apprehended around 11.45pm at the international arrivals hall, as announced by the Phuket Immigration Airport division. Oddly, her identity was revealed through a news article by Matichon, published just an hour before Phuket Immigration released its official statement. Jian Qi had arrived in Phuket from Shanghai on flight FM831. At the immigration control counter, she presented a passport bearing the name of 28 year old Yi Chih Han, a Chinese citizen. However, the biometric control system indicated that the face of the woman before them only matched the passport photo by 30%. With no supplementary documents to support her identity and Shanghai Airlines personnel confirming that no individual named Yi Chih Han had boarded the flight from China, Jian Qi was cornered. Initially, she tried to justify the discrepancy by claiming she had undergone multiple aesthetic surgeries. However, she eventually admitted to using another person’s passport reported Phuket News. The group, consisting of 15 year old A, 19 year old Naphat, 20 year old Natthawut, and 19 year old Chanachon, were found in possession of a series of self-made handguns and ammunition. The weapons and ammunition were discovered hidden inside a blue Honda Civic vehicle, with registration plate KL 9592 from Nakhon Pathom. It was parked at a PTT petrol station in Min Buri. Intriguingly, the vehicle had no rear license plate. The confiscated items included self-made handguns, modelled after the Glock 19, Sig Sauer P365, Glock 19 Gen 4, and Colt. The ammunition, nearly 50 rounds, varied in size between .380 and 9mm. The arrest was a result of the police patrol unit, responding to an area of responsibility alert. Upon their arrival at the PTT petrol station, they spotted a suspicious Honda Civic car. The vehicle matched the description of a car involved in a recent incident where a group of teenagers threatened another individual with a gun on August 30, in Soi Puchao Saming Phrai 46, Khlong Samwa, Bangkok. If karma indeed exists, it enacted a merciless retribution upon a Thai man who, consumed by jealousy over his ex-wife’s new romance, set fire to her and her mother. The Thai man ended up suffering severe burns all over his body during the arson attack on his former spouse. This harrowing incident unfolded in the early hours of yesterday when officers from Mueang Lopburi Police Station received a distress call from a house on Si Intrarathit Road in the Tha Kae sub-district of Lop Buri province. They arrived at the scene around 4.30 am, finding a two-story house marred by a broken window and visible fire damage. The pungent odour of gasoline permeated the air. The blaze had left two individuals injured, including a 31 year old woman named Thanita “Fah” Suwakhon, and Fah’s mother, 66 year old Napada Suwakhon. Fah had suffered severe burns across her body, while her mother, Napada, bore injuries primarily on her back. Urgently, they were transported to King Narai Hospital for immediate medical attention. Fah’s current boyfriend, 36 year old Jakkaphan Intasana, promptly reported to the police that the assailant was none other than Fah’s ex-husband, 44 year old Samroeng Chaichan. According to Jakkaphan, Samroeng insisted that Fah and her mother step outside to speak with him during the early hours of the fateful day. In a chilling account, Jakkaphan disclosed that when Fah and her mother declined to go outside, Samroeng shattered a glass window to gain entry to the house. He approached Fah and her mother, dousing both women with petrol before setting them ablaze. Jakkaphan recounted how he had awoken to investigate the commotion, only to be confronted by the horrifying sight of his wife and her mother engulfed in flames. The two victims rushed into the bathroom in a desperate bid to extinguish the fire, then sought help from Jakkaphan and their neighbours. The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) expressed its satisfaction with the newly elected government’s commitment to lowering energy costs and retail diesel prices. Newly inaugurated Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has prioritised energy price reductions as an early objective of his administration. An immediate cut in energy prices has been promised by the 61 year old Srettha and his Cabinet upon assuming office. FTI Chairman Kriengkrai Thiennukul pointed out that the escalation in energy bills and diesel prices has significantly impacted living and manufacturing expenses. He further added that the private sector has been consistently advocating for measures to alleviate these pressures. The household electricity tariff stood at 4.7 baht per kilowatt-hour (unit) for the period between May and August. A slightly reduced rate of 4.45 baht per unit is set for September to December, which the FTI still regards as excessively high. Kriengkrai said the FTI would be happy if the new government works to reduce energy bills and the diesel oil price.” “The FTI and the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking are always calling for the government to consider reductions.” By Alex Morgan Caption: Photo Courtesy of Royal Coast Review Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/business/thai-industries-federation-welcomes-governments-pledge-to-cut-energy-costs -- The Thaiger 2023-09-01 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The Pheu Thai Party‘s proposed digital handout scheme, requiring around 500 billion baht, could potentially boost Thailand’s GDP growth by 3% in the next year, according to the Bank of Thailand. Sakkapop Panyanukul, the central bank‘s director of the economic and policy department, mentioned the digital handout contribution depends on the economic multiplier. The 3% GDP projection uses a cash transfer model, but definitive forecasts await more digital handout scheme details. The program suggests a digital wallet with 10,000 baht for citizens aged 16 and above, spent locally within six months to stimulate the economy and aim for 5% GDP growth. Although the August consumer sentiment index dropped due to government concerns, Sakkapop anticipates improvement once a government forms. The central bank awaits the new government’s economic policy before predicting 2024 GDP growth of 3.8%. However, the 2023 growth forecast might be cut from 3.6% due to slower external demand and the global economic slowdown. Thai exports may decrease due to sluggish recovery in China, but internal demand and tourism remain supportive of economic expansion.
