In state hospitals, doctors, interns and nurses alike have to endure long hours, sometimes working 24 hours in a row, just to make sure the patients get the medical attention they need. The unhealthy workload has led to the number of new medical personnel dwindling and these problems have existed for a long time. Demand and supply While qualified medical professionals are in short supply, the number of patients keeps rising. When the doctor-to-patient ratio becomes disproportional, the workload increases to the point that some people to just leave the profession altogether. This development has attracted big data centres and cloud service providers from various countries, including the US, Japan, and China. Among the firms choosing Thailand is Adobe Inc., an American creator of design tools and document management software. The company opened its Thai office earlier this year, to benefit from the country’s booming digital and creative economy. For Adobe, Thailand is the second-largest market by revenue in Southeast Asia, according to Simon Dale, Vice-President and Managing Director of Southeast Asia and Korea. Other international firms investing in Thailand include Salesforce, Appnext, Zoho Corp, and Dassault Systèmes. Furthermore, Vietnamese companies have been launching businesses in Thailand to offer software development outsourcing services. 23. Demco yesterday announced expansion plans focusing on diversifying the company’s business into digital technology and enhancing its renewable energy portfolio. As a stock exchange of Thailand (SET)-listed contractor and engineering service provider, the company acknowledges not getting involved in the state renewable development scheme during its first phase. Pongsak Sirikupt, the company’s chief executive and managing director, revealed that Demco’s expansion plan aims to invest 150 million baht in boosting its rooftop solar power business. Demco’s electricity generation capacity is projected to rise from the current 10MW to 40 megawatts by 2025. The company is currently engaged in discussions with renewable power plant operators in an effort to acquire assets, with an expected conclusion in early 2023. Presently, Demco operates solar and wind farms with a combined capacity of 70MW, based on its shares in renewable energy operators. Demco’s expansion plans reveal the company’s eagerness to branch out into new energy businesses, with a particular focus on digital technology applications such as smart grid development. The Demco expansion strategy also includes exploring opportunities in the electric vehicles (EVs) market, as the Thai government’s promotion efforts have made the sector increasingly attractive. In 2021, the National EV Policy Committee announced its goal to have EVs make up 50% of locally manufactured vehicles by 2030, as part of an ambitious plan to establish Thailand as a regional EV hub. 25. The Thai stock market remains under pressure from domestic political uncertainties, despite a halt in US interest rate hikes and a recent rate cut in China. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index continued its downward trend, closing at 1,557.71 points, a 0.22% decrease from the previous day. In contrast, several Asian stock markets experienced gains, with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index surging by 2.17%. The Shenzhen Components and Shanghai Composite also experienced growth, with increases of 1.8% and 0.74% respectively, spurred by both short- and medium-term rate cuts from the People’s Bank of China. However, political uncertainties loom over the Thai index, which has lost approximately 6% year-to-date. Kitpon Praipaisarnkit, Vice-President of UOB Kay Hian Securities Thailand, expressed concern over local political instability, stating that the Thai bourse could benefit from the Fed’s pause in hiking rates in the short term, but the sentiment will suffer over the next 2-3 months.
