  1. BANGKOK (NNT) - The first trial run of the Yellow Line monorail on June 3 drew much excitement among commuters at Samrong station in Samut Prakan province, as it introduced a new transportation option while offering an alternative to tackle the area’s infamous traffic congestion. The Yellow Line, Thailand’s inaugural straddle-beam monorail, connects Lat Phrao in Bangkok with Samrong in Samut Prakan, covering a distance of 30.4 kilometers and spanning 23 stations. During the initial two weeks of the trial, the service is open only for 13 stations, from Hua Mak to Samrong, with a travel time of approximately 30 minutes. The trial period is open to the public free of charge until the end of June, with service hours running from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. BTSC CEO Surapong Laoha-Unya revealed that the Yellow Line is expected to commence commercial operations next month with fares ranging from 15 to 45 baht. He emphasized the seamless connectivity of the Yellow Line with other major transit lines, including the Green Line at Samrong Station, the Airport Rail Link at Hua Mak Station, and the Blue Line at Lat Phrao Station. BTSC also revealed plans to establish a connection between the Yellow Line and the upcoming Orange Line via Yaek Lam Sali station, further expanding the reach and accessibility of the monorail system. Passengers are encouraged to install BTSC’s "The SKYTRAINs" mobile app to stay up-to-date on train schedules and station information. 5. A group of Pattaya authorities inspected a homeless community near the Bali Hai Pier on June 2nd. The visit was in response to the public’s concerns regarding the presence of homeless individuals, which raised safety concerns for both local residents and tourists. Some tourists had reportedly demanded for authorities to remove the homeless entirely, saying it made Pattaya look bad, but city officials said the issue wasn’t as simple as this and such a move would violate human rights. Upon inspection, authorities found that some individuals were actually employed but sought temporary shelter during their leisure time when they had no work. Preliminary discussions were held to better understand their situation. However, due to their human rights, authorities said they were unable to forcibly relocate them to different locations. 11. A pregnant 37 year old woman was severely burned by hot oil while selling French fries at a local football match in Rayong province. The organisers offered 4,000 baht as compensation but the victim, Suchada Phusawangporn, refused, calling for the culprit to take greater responsibility. Local authorities are investigating the incident. Suchada, who is three months pregnant, was serving French fries from a tent at a football match organised by The Smiling Chicken Team. An errant football accidentally landed in the hot oil frying pan, splashing Suchada’s face and right arm with boiling oil. Her injuries, including swelling and inflammation in both eyes, have left her fearing that she may lose her sight permanently, which would impact her ability to care for her two children and unborn baby. Following the publication of the incident, the football match organisers invited Suchada and her family to meet with them at the stadium. They offered 2,000 baht in compensation, while the abbot of the local temple, Wat Namkok Mai, contributed another 2,000 baht. However, Suchada and her family declined the money, believing it would not cover the costs of her medical treatment. They sought a more considerable contribution and responsibility from the person who kicked the ball. 15. A large wild elephant emerged onto a road near Khao Yai National Park, frightening tourists who hastily tried to reverse their cars. The incident occurred yesterday when the elephant left the forest, crossing the road without causing any harm before returning to the woodland area. According to Assumporn Rojanburanan, the head of Pong Prathan village in the Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima, the large elephant was spotted walking out of the woods and leisurely strolling along the road within the national park around on the way to Klhong Tabak. The elephant was heading towards the three-way intersection at Green Hill, near the Nen Hom Gate and Pong Yai Maeow. Assumporn was accompanying his son, Kritsana Rojanburanan, and friends on a sightseeing trip and photography expedition in Khao Yai National Park when they encountered the large elephant. They estimated it to be a young elephant, aged about 15-18 years, as it had not yet developed tusks and its gender could not be discerned. The sighting caused vehicles coming from Nakhon Nayok’s Nen Hom Gate to swerve and try to escape, fearing the animal would approach them. However, due to a long queue of cars behind, they were unable to reverse. The elephant continued heading towards the Green Hill intersection, where it was filmed by Kritsana’s son. The elephant then walked down the side of the road and returned to the forest without causing any damage or incidents. 24. Govt Urged to Extend EV Subsidies to Incentivize Domestic Production BANGKOK (NNT) - The Excise Department has proposed a subsidy of at least 3 billion baht from the new government, in an effort to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1296949-govt-urged-to-extend-ev-subsidies-to-incentivize-domestic-production/
  25. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Excise Department has proposed a subsidy of at least 3 billion baht from the new government, in an effort to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The current administration has already approved 2.9 billion baht from the Central Fund for this purpose, offering a subsidy of up to 150,000 baht per unit for EV purchases. Of the allocated funds, approximately 800 million baht has been utilized, with the agency in the process of granting subsidies - estimated to total around 400 million baht - to buyers of about 3,000 EVs. However, concerns are mounting as the remaining balance of the fund is expected to be depleted by September, raising uncertainties among car dealers and prospective buyers. Natthakorn Uthensut, an advisor to the Excise Department, has acknowledged the need for adjustments in the conditions for granting EV subsidies, particularly for the first domestically produced EVs scheduled to launch in Thailand in 2024. The move aims to support the local production of EVs and boost the nation’s overall EV industry. Currently, the majority of EVs in Thailand are imported from China, the largest exporter of such vehicles worldwide. The proposed subsidy extension seeks to incentivize domestic production, encouraging local manufacturers to enter the market and contribute to Thailand’s economic growth. The program has so far garnered positive responses, with 3,000 EVs having been purchased with the support of the existing subsidy. Car dealers are now urging customers to make advance bookings for EVs due to uncertainty over the extension of the subsidy by the new government.
