  5. An elder woman was murdered during a robbery at her grocery store in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. The 74 year old victim was strangled by the intruders using her own clothing in front of her 43 year-old disabled daughter. The suspects fled, taking two mobile phones with them. In a shocking incident on June 1, the woman was brutally murdered during a robbery at her home-cum-grocery store in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, Thailand. Police officers, accompanied by medical personnel and volunteer rescue workers, arrived at the scene to find the woman, who owned the store, lifeless with bruising around her eyes and neck. She had been strangled with her own clothing. They also discovered the distraught disabled daughter of the victim, who had witnessed the horrific crime. The back door of the kitchen had been forced open, and belongings were scattered throughout the house, indicating a struggle. It is believed that at least two attackers broke into the house through the kitchen door while the mother and daughter were sleeping. Upon encountering the elder woman, they assaulted her and strangled her to death using her clothing before making off with two mobile phones. Many foreigners fell victim to this company, resulting in estimated damages of 100 million baht. A representative of the Thailand Consumers Council, Phattakorn Teepaboonrat, accompanied the British victim, 70 year old David Edward Chapel, to the Central Suppression Division to file a complaint against the real estate company, whose name was not revealed. Phattakorn spoke to the media about the issue explaining that Chapel bought a luxury condo in Koh Samui in 2016 and stayed there only three times a year. He has been trying to pursue official ownership but has been unsuccessful. According to Phattakorn, Chapel discovered on May 19 that the condo did not gain construction permission. As if this was not disheartening enough, it came to light that certain portions of the land on which the property stood had been illicitly mortgaged and subsequently sold. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT’s deputy governor for Asia and the South Pacific, revealed that the agency is developing new promotional strategies for the next fiscal year and anticipates finalising its proposal for the new government in the coming month. The primary focus of these strategies is to promote high-value tourism, meaningful travel experiences, and sustainability. Tanes assured that the delay in forming a government would not impact the promotional plans for the fourth quarter, despite fiscal 2024 beginning in October. He explained that TAT had anticipated the delay and had already started promotional work using the current year’s budget. Tanes stated… “The TAT is targeting 3 trillion baht in revenue from the tourism industry next year, with 2 trillion from the international market and 1 trillion from the domestic market. We expect the number of flights to return to normal next year.” By Alex Morgan Caption: The TAT and Grab Thailand aimed to welcome more tourists to the programme, Image via Facebook, Amazing Thailand Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/business/thailand-targets-3-trillion-baht-tourism-revenue-in-2023-with-sustainability-focus -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-06-01 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 13. The personal computer (PC) market in Thailand is predicted to expand by 7.9% this year, driven by the increasing demand from businesses seeking digital transformation, according to IDC Thailand’s market analyst. The first quarter of 2023 saw the market contract by 20.3% year-on-year, but it experienced a 12.9% growth quarter-on-quarter due to consumer spending through the government’s “Shop Dee Mee Kuen” scheme. Puwanart Pientanyakij, a market analyst for device research at IDC Thailand, referred to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly PC Device Tracker, which indicated that Thailand achieved 566,000 unit sales in the first quarter. The consumer segment led the decline, with shipments dropping 31.1% year-on-year to 339,000 units. IDC Thailand stated that vendors have been concentrating on reducing channel inventory since last year, following the decrease in demand after the pandemic. Most market players successfully lowered their inventory to under 14 weeks of stock, enabling them to increase the sell-in of new gaming notebooks with the latest generation of graphic cards. The Shop Dee Mee Kuen scheme also helped revive consumer demand. In the first quarter, the commercial segment experienced a 4.1% year-on-year growth and a 5.2% sequential growth, reaching 226,000 unit sales. This growth was attributed to public sector spending prior to the May election and large enterprises, particularly in the banking sector, investing in PC renewals, security, and data transformation. Regarding the top-five market share in the first quarter, HP Inc secured 18.5% due to its marketing campaign, which helped manage inventory and boost new consumer shipments. HP also closed several deals in the public sector and a very large business segment. Lenovo ranked second with 17%, but it took the lead in the commercial market thanks to multiple wins in the public sector and enterprise segment. The Thai Finance Ministry has joined forces with the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and the Rubber Authority of Thailand to launch the Capital Flow in Rubber Industrial Estate project, aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of businesses in the rubber supply chain on a global scale. The rubber and rubber product exports amount to over 680 billion baht annually, with more than 6 million people participating in the supply chain, from upstream to downstream sectors, including farmers. This collaborative effort, involving the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Thai Board of Trade, the Rubber Authority of Thailand, the Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC), and the Thai Credit Guarantee Corporation, is designed to provide access to capital for entrepreneurs, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises in the Thai rubber industry. The suspects denied the accusations, arguing that they intended to assist the foreigners. The Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police (RTP), Torsak Sukvimol, received a tip off that two Thai men claimed to have connections with him and boasted about their ability to dismiss all criminal charges. They created a fake profile on the Line application, specifically targeting expats who were dealing with legal issues. According to the police report, one recent victim was a foreign owner of a restaurant in the Sathon neighbourhood of Bangkok. However, specific details regarding the case were not disclosed. After conducting a further investigation into the case, officers discovered that it was well-grounded. They then conducted raids at the houses of the two suspects, identified as 58 year old Khunnadate Thanthanakorn and 40 year old Amphut Kutsena. Khunnadate’s house in the Lat Krabang district of Bangkok was raided first but he was not present. While searching the premises officers discovered a card indicating Khunnadate’s affiliation as a reporter for the Thai Police Newspaper, seven bank books, and a record documenting funds he had collected from victims.
