Thai police and customs officials arrested a truck driver and seized illegal narcotics, worth about 100 million baht hidden in oil drums, at a border checkpoint in the north-eastern province of Nong Khai today (Wednesday). Officials became suspicious that oil drums were being brought into Thailand from Laos and had all of them examined usingan X-ray machine, which revealed something unusual in some of the drums. Upon opening, the drums were found to contain 10kgs of crystal meth and Ecstasy and 3.8 million methamphetamine tablets, with an estimated street value of 100 million baht. The police raided 15 locations in HCMC and the neighboring Dong Nai Province on Tuesday to arrest 14 people, who will be investigated for gambling and organizing gambling. Initial investigation found the operation was run by some Vietnamese living in Cambodia. Seven managers based in HCMC supervised betting accounts and managed a gambling network spread over many cities and provinces. The Pasteur Institute Nha Trang said that salmonella, bacillus cereus and E.Coli bacteria were found in the fried chicken wings served at the school on Friday. Bacillus cereus was also found in the fish sauce, the institute said. Bacillus cereus is a bacterium commonly found in food that is left overnight or stored in low temperature for a long time.
