The number of lung infections this week are 763, including 327 who are on ventilators, he said, adding that the Public Health Ministry has provided an assurance that there are sufficient beds in state hospitals to accommodate severe cases. He said that some of the beds are reserved for patients suffering from other diseases, which may give the impression that there are fewer beds for available severe COVID cases. 8. The public prosecutor in charge of handling the case of the death of actress Nida Patcharaveerapong, aka “Tangmo”, postponed the indictments of six suspects today (Thursday) until August 3rd. Nonthaburi’s Provincial Prosecutor Supaporn Nipavanich explained that the indictments have to be postponed because the case file has not been returned to her from the Region 1 prosecutors, due to some unspecified technical problems, adding that the examination of the case file is well within the timeline and has not been delayed. This is the second time that indictments have been delayed and it is reported that the suspects may lodge a petition with the Office of the Attorney-General against the delay. The prosecutor said that the suspects have the right to do so, but she insisted that the delay was not intentional, as she has already explained to the suspects. 10. The Central Administrative Court has ruled that the cancellation of the bid for the construction of the 120-billion-baht western section of the Orange Line train project, between Bang Khun Non and Min Buri, is unlawful. In February last year, the Public-Private Partnership selection committee decided to scrap the bid on the grounds that calling a new auction would enable the project to proceed more quickly than the current process, which was mired in legal wrangles in the Administrative Court. One of bidders, Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTSC) filed a lawsuit with the Central Administrative Court against the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), the project’s owner and the selection committee, over changes to the terms of reference (ToR) after the sale of the bid envelopes by MRTA. One of the agrarian reform beneficiaries files a complaint against acting Tarlac prosecutor Mila Mae Montefalco before the Department of Justice seeking her dismissal from service over grave and serious misconduct, gross ignorance of the law, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service. Released MANILA, Philippines — Some of the farmers arrested at a land cultivation activity in June at Hacienda Tinang in Concepcion, Tarlac are asking the Department of Justice to fire the province’s acting prosecutor, accusing her of grave and serious misconduct, gross ignorance of the law, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service. In separate complaints filed Thursday before the DOJ, farmers said Mila Mae Montefalco, acting provincial prosecutor of Tarlac, conducted inquest proceedings “in an unreasonable, unfair, oppressive or discriminatory manner.” “During the inquest proceedings, Prosecutor Montefalco asked questions to all those who were arrested in a manner which shows her bias against us. Her questions were intended not to elicit facts, but to incriminate us of whatever crimes we were charged,” they said. Tumisu from Pixabay MANILA, Philippines — Provisions of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children law apply to women in illicit relationships, including mistresses and paramours, and their children too, the Supreme Court upheld. This comes after a petitioner — a man who had been issued a permanent protection order to prevent further violence against his longtime live-in partner, a woman, and their children — argued that Republic Act 9262 or Anti-VAWC Act of 2004 did not apply to the respondent woman, as they were in an extramarital relationship. In a decision penned by Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, the Court’s Second Division upheld a Permanent Protection Order issued under the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, over what he said were "contentions that sought to straitjacket the text and spirit of the law." 23. Two motorbike thefts occurred consecutively in Sri Racha on Wednesday, July 6th. The two victims who were already struggling with finances implored the police to take action. The first incident unfolded in the middle of the night on July 6th. Two suspects got captured on a CCTV camera stopping their motorbike in front of a rental room in Sri Racha’s Nong Kham subdistrict and stealing a black/grey Honda Wave 150 motorbike owned by the female victim, Sumarin Padwiset, and fleeing. According to reports, Samarin worked at a factory. She was 32-years-old and only bought the motorcycle one day ago on a down payment. But what hurt her the most, according to her, was that she had just filled the gas the day before the incident, hoping to drive her brand new motorcycle to her workplace, and now she had nothing left. Sumarin said she already filed a report at the Nong Kham Police Station. She also doubted the police’s professionalism as she got all the evidence including CCTV footage, but police still could not catch the culprit as of press time.
