BANGKOK (NNT) - Foreign arrivals at Suvarnabhumi Airport have surged in the three days since the Thailand Pass requirement was lifted on Friday (1 July). According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisulee Traisaranakul, the airport on Friday welcomed as many as 140 flights and 27,642 passengers. It recorded 134 flights with 27,147 passengers on board on Saturday and 150 flights with 28,910 passengers on Sunday. The figures represent an increase from the previous month, which saw an average of 130 daily landings carrying between 23,000 and 24,000 passengers. Traisulee stated the increase was also consistent with a projection by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Ministry that daily foreign arrivals will soon surpass 30,000, with the figure set to double in October. The Thai government is meanwhile set to launch the "Thailand Moving Together" campaign at Suvarnabhumi Airport to demonstrate that the country is prepared for the return of tourists. The event, which will be presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is being jointly organized by the ministries of Public Health, Transport, and Tourism and Sports. The gathering will be Minister Anutin’s first official engagement since his recent trip to Europe. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thailand’s opposition warned against debating Myanmar warplane incursion Government chief whip Nirote Sunthornlekha has warned the opposition that the plan by some of its MPs to question the government over last week’s incursion by a Myanmar MiG-29 jet into Thai airspace, over Tak province, may undermine the country’s national security, which could be deemed a criminal offence. Government chief whip Nirote Sunthornlekha has warned the opposition that the plan by some of its MPs to question the government over last week’s incursion by a Myanmar MiG-29 jet into Thai airspace, over Tak province, may undermine the country’s national security, which could be deemed a criminal offence. Calling the plan nonsensical, he said today (Monday) that the incident is not a big deal and that the Thai government has already protested through diplomatic channels and that the incident has not damaged the relationship between the two neighbours. He said he doubts whether the opposition wants Thailand to declare war on Myanmar over the incident. Telecom service providers will be asked to tidy up their overhead cables in Bangkok, in a fresh bid to speed up the plan by the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to put all cables underground. Placing partial onus on the telcos is one of the proposals made during a meeting today (Friday) of representatives of the NBTC, the MEA and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), chaired by Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda. The meeting stems from the fire at Chinatown’s Sampeng market on June 26th, in which two people lost their lives and a few others suffered the effects of smoke inhalation. The fire is believed to have started in an old transformer and flames spread along the cables to adjoining shop houses.
