Thousands of people who had taken out COVID-19 insurance coverage, under the “Found, Paid, Done” scheme, have been discovered to have used false documents to claim compensation, worth an estimated 500 million baht, according to the Thai General Insurance Association. Association president, Anon Vangvasu, said today (Tuesday) that he has received complaints from several association members about the false claims. He disclosed that, during the peak of the pandemic, a number of insurance companies rushed to pay compensation to their clients, in order to ease their financial burdens, and examination of the documents filed for compensation was, therefore, more cursory than usual. Tanongsak Hanwong, leader of the Samnuek 300 Ong conservation group, is collecting evidence to prove that the valuable antique originated in Thailand, but was smuggled abroad by antique traders. A team of Thai PBS reporters recently joined Tanongsak on a trip to Ban Yang in Lahan Sai district of the north-eastern province of Buri Ram, where they met 67-year-old Nil Pedsakul, a villager of Ban Yang, who was shown pictures of the bronze sculpture from Tanongsak’s book. The woman said images look like the sculpture which was found by her brother-in-law, during an archaeological dig at Prasat Ban Yang ruins in Ban Yang village about 50 years ago. She recalled taking the sculpture to their home, where she washed it with water. Females in finance Kesara Manchusree, who is widely known as the former president of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, shares her views on female leadership in Thailand’s financial sector with Thai PBS World, following the country’s hosting of the Global Summit of Women 2022 in June. With a background in the exchange business, from being an analyst at a smaller company to leadership roles in numerous financial organisations, Kesara noted that it is not that common to have female leaders in this specific field. “When I went to seminars in the international market, we would see that it’s less common to have women as CEOs in stock exchanges, and I think Thailand has been giving opportunities for both women and men to do that job.” Full Story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/kesara-manchusree-on-female-leadership-in-thailands-finance-industry-including-exchange-business/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2022-07-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. According to the decision today, unused and redundant overhead cables, covering 800km, will be removed. The work will be undertaken by the telecom service providers, who own the cables at their own cost. For active cables, which are to be relocated underground, the meeting agreed to form a panel, comprising representatives of the BMA, NBTC, NT and Krungthep Thanakom, an investment arm of the BMA, to reconsider rental fees for the use of underground ducts. File photo shows police investigating the death of a victim of the Duterte government's so-called war on drugs. AFP / Noel Celis, file MANILA, Philippines — Taking its cue from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Department of the Interior and Local Government will continue the Duterte administration's "war on drugs" but with a new approach, its newly-minted secretary Benhur Abalos said Monday morning. At a press conference, Abalos said that most investigations of drug killings are deterred because there are no witnesses to assist in the cases, adding that in every anti-drug operation, there should be at least three witnesses including representatives from the media, the Department of Justice, and a barangay official. “It is important right now to continue the things that you [DILG] have done...I was asked, ‘How about the war on drugs?’ It will be sustained in accordance to the oath I made as provided for in the constitution,” Abalos said in mixed Filipino and English. Commuters queue for free bus rides from Philcoa to Cubao in Quezon City on March 30, 2021 due to limited public transportation amid the enhanced community quarantine. The STAR / Miguel de Guzman, file MANILA, Philippines — A green transportation think tank called for a transition from oil and gas production and a shift towards more viable zero-carbon options in the wake of the resulting oil price crisis. In a statement sent to media, the Council for Decarbonising Transport in Asia said that the current fuel crisis exposed countries' vulnerabilities due to fuel importation restrictions, resulting in economic repercussions that also affected public transport supply on the roads. “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has put Asian countries in jeopardy, causing inflation and another round of price increases for fuel products. The Philippines’ inflation rate at 5.4% is at its highest in over three years. Oil prices soared by more than 6% in India, touching their highest since 2008. Vietnam’s petrol prices have reached a new record and marked its seventh price hike since April,” the council said. Department of Transportation MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday urged lawmakers to fix the defects of the vetoed Bulacan economic zone bill and to anticipate possible legal challenges to the measure. Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said while President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. fully supports the measure, it has to be sharpened to include the necessary audit provisions for the Commission on Audit, the procedures for expropriating lands that had been awarded to agrarian reform beneficiaries and a masterplan with metes and bounds of the full scope of the economic zone. She also cited the need to address why there is a rule-making power given to the economic zone for environmental issues, something that is not given to other economic zones.
