Given 100Mbs download speed is a common internet package around the world these days, is computer processing power now at a level where 100Mbs download speed is the bottle neck?

I mean, if the newest and fastest processor is cable of processing, say 500Mbs, but your ISP can only send down your line 100Mbs, would it not be a waste of money, unless you work on you computer with some software that requires a lot of resources?

I have heard of 1Gbs download speeds, but to my knowledge, I have never used one, and if I did, with a Core i7 processor, if I did a speed test, what could I expect the results to show?

With any semi-capable PC, you should expect to get over 900 Mbps real-world speeds.

  2. Your main system DDR3 and the memory are separate things.

There is a possible upgrade path for your CPU to an i7-3770 or i7-3770k. You would gain a faster CPU and the ability to overclock with the K.  Youl'd also get hyperthreading which some apps use to improve performance.  Whether or not this is important to you depends on your use case.  On Lazada, the chips appear to be going for 2-3000 baht.  (Still don't kknow what your budget is...)

I still agree with Eindhoven that there's not really any point in going for a GT 710.

Maybe something such as a GTX 750 ti  would be an option for slightly more than the GT 710?

I'm sure you're right,  but looking at the profile of both cards seems neither of them have a fan, just big badass heat sinks

They are both passive even though only one is explicitly described as such.

I realize it's not much of an upgrade, but this is more of sort of retail therapy for me than actually needing an upgrade.   :whistling:

Yes I have a SSD but don't do any gaming, just mainly download movies

Between the two, the Asus would appear to be the slightly better option as it has GDDR5 RAM while the Galax has DDR3.  However, as already pointed out, it's probably not even worth it,  What CPU do you have?  What's your budget?  This will help people suggest a good match on top of those already suggested.

Quite right, but having power to the drives should indicate that the power supply is indeed working, so even more confusing when the BIOS screen does not appear.

Just because it can power up and possibly produce the right voltage, it doesn't necessarily mean it's capable of delivering the required current.

  5. Are you using a graphics card?

Does your CPU/motherboard have internal graphics?

What happens if you you switch on the PC and wait?  Does anything eventually show on the screen?

What is set as your primary graphics adapter in BIOS?

I do not get your first picture when I search for user accounts, and cmd/net user administrator /active:yes denies me access even though I am signed in as administrator.

Make sure you run the CMD prompt window as administrator also.

There is a notice on my torrent website which says "you have seven torrents that need seeding".

What do I do about this? Do I need to get this Seedbox? That seems a bit complicated to me.

That (probably) means that some movies/series that you have downloaded in the past now have no one "seeding" them.  This means that there is now no way for anyone else to get a complete copy of the file.  If you still have the complete files then the "polite" thing to do would be to add them to your torrent program again.  You would do this by adding the file again as if you were downloading it again.

In your case, I wouldn't recommend a seedbox at this time due to your lack of confidence with tech.

  9. How does the "Q" key "feel" compared to the rest?  Is is level with them? Does it feel natural when you try to press it?

Since you have already reinstalled Windows, it's almost certainly hardware related - maybe something as simple as a piece of debris stuck under the key.  This could be pressing the actual "switch" or pad on the membrane,  Best to take it to a shop if you're not confident.  You can prove this by following OneMoreFarang's advice.

As for your sound issue, since you've reinstalled, that's probably a driver issue.  Get the driver from the laptop website.

  10. It's also possible that you have a problem with something called "port forwarding"  but the fix for this depends on your torrent program, your router, and possibly your ISP.

You could try yo Google that one.

  11. AR is Aspect Ratio.

It means the difference between the the width and height of the screen.

A standard modern tv has a 16:19 screen. Older TVs that were more square had 4:3 aspect ratios.

Many films are even wider on cinema screens compared to the height. Which is why they don't fit on TVs or computer monitors.  This is the root of your problem.

  12. I've had a look at the site and they do have some info on the resolutions.

    Look for 1280x720 or 1920x1080

That will mean that the video itself will fit your screen.

However, there is no guarantee that the black bars are not part of the video itself.

You'll just need to try it out.
