  1. So many of my expat friends who lived in Thailand over the past 18 years have all faded away to live in other countries now. Most of them felt their personal safety was the main reason for change of location and when you read this type of death report you can understand people's thinking got off all these years odds are must be my turn soon time to move on

    A bit dramatic.

I know a lot more people have been murdered in my home country, over your 18 year period.

Also, with regards to your friends who have 'moved on', had they stayed here, I would think they would still be alive, barring death by natural causes.

A bit of a given that more farangs are murdered in thier home countries. How many Thais per year are murdered in individual farang countries compared to farangs in Thailand?
  2. Anyone know where these tourists are? Any stories of overbooked hotels and resorts?

Edit: Never mind. I just read the end of the full article:

"The markets that showed improvements were: Cambodia (+43.94%); Hong Kong (+32.27%); Myanmar (+31.70%); China (+29.10%); Laos (+17.91%); Brunei (+14.82%); the Philippines (+10.86%); Malaysia (+8.82%); Singapore (+8.42%); Indonesia (+6.47%); Japan (+5.11%); South Korea (+3.05%); and Vietnam (+2.96%)."

Every country that sent more tourists is in east Asia or southeast Asia. By extension we may assume western countries sent fewer tourists.

I think it's safe to assume the average Cambodian "tourist" isn't spending as much as the western tourists that used to come here.

Are you sure that you read to the end of the article?

You seem to have missed this:

'Europe grew 12.70% from 560,964 visits to 632,223 visits. The markets that showed improvements were: Russia (+29.21%); Belgium (+27.00%); Ireland (+25.33%); Spain (+22.71%); the United Kingdom (+17.97%); Switzerland (+11.90%); France (+10.95%); Italy (+10.14%); Norway (+7.13%); East Europe (+6.67%); Germany (+6.47%); Sweden (+5.87%); Denmark (+5.86%); and the Netherlands (+1.38%). Finland and Austria were the only two markets showing declines of 6.91% and 1.80% respectively.'

Australia didn't even make list. My dad owns a travel agency in Melbourne which is part of a major chain and he says you can't give away holidays to Thailand which was once a major destination for Aussies. Bali, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Pacific Islands are the places for affordable holidays.
  3. More money/more ways for B.I.B. to screw money out of Farangs.

How much money have they screwed out of you Colin because in my twelve years they haven't screwed a single satang from me.

for me nabbed just once in 10 years. Cost me 1,500 baht for speeding. Just pulled out of a rest stop traveled about 100 meters and got waved over charged for doing 140 kph in a 120 zone. Great pickup in a little vios.

Indeed I've had tickets for speeding also, I was travelling 120 in a 90 and it cost be 400 baht, a fair cop and I paid the man at the desk and got a receipt. But that's not "screwing money out of farangs", that's enforcing the law and catching law breakers.

for me I had only reached a top speed of about 60. Paid the cash to avoid further problems but the wife went right off.

  5. If you live long enough in Thailand, you will soon find out that they will never admit to any wrong doing and they will always blame someone or something else, showing no remorse.

My wife was sitting in traffic at a red light, when a guy on a Motor cycle passed her on the left, he hit his head on the wing mirror of the car, he fell over, his bike had no, lights or registration and he had no license, the first thing he did was call all his friends and family and told them to get there asap as he has just been run over.

Within a few minuets there was about 50 people wanting to kill my wife, the police came and told her to pay 5000 baht to him, he also told her if it ever happens again, you should lock the doors and keep on driving.

same thing happened to my wife, stoped legally to make right hand turn with indicator on. Numnut comes down left, clips mirror and falls off. No injuries or damage to his bike but he was 16 and unlicenced. Cost the wife 3 thousand baht for him being an unlicenced numnut and had to take the car for repairs. Police said motor bikes are always in the right, a free pass so to speak
  6. Americans would never accept being part of an organisation like the EU where they are dictated to by foreigners and having to open their borders to all member states citizens.

Would they tolerate for example an Americas super state with an open border with Mexico and government located somewhere in Canada churning out more legislation and red tape practically every week?

Clearly Obama has joined Cameron's project fear because it somehow suits US interests and he does not care about how remaining in the totally corrupt EU with uncontrolled immigration and all the social problems that will cause the average Brit.

The USA IS an American super state consisting of 50 individual states each with individual freedom to pass laws and generate taxes but with a common currency and free movement of labour. UK is equivalent to California without the sun.
    You forgot to add

Governed by Americans for Americans and with the interests of Americans first and foremost

And what country doesn't do this? tongue.png

    Australia
  7. The extreme booing by the swans fans towards jetta. Last year when Goodes was booed Swans fans screamed racism. How bloody hypocritical. The booing was far more deafening than Goodes ever got.

    5555

hardly a sound was heard... until he kicked for the set shot at goal

totally diff scenarios too. all ex players are booed by there ex club fans

Very true Bookman. The booing is not racist but as you state it is an ex club player.

The afl stated last year after the princess Goodes was booed, booing of a player is unacceptable and won't be tolerated. Clubs were warned.

  9. No I didn't want to see the dogs put down. I wanted to see Americans obey Australian laws when visiting the country and not spitting in the face of locals.

I'm sure that you accurately and truthfully fill in the questions on the form about whether you've been traipsing around farm land, so they can hold you up to swab your shoes and clothes looking for vermin (yes, those hiking boots in your luggage that you were wearing when you crossed that pasture on holiday- as required by law). And that you've never snuck a few crumbs of food off the plane under the radar- food that the law says you have to declare, under severe penalties?

Yes you are quite correct I declare everything, nasal spray, vitamins. My wife brings in thai foodstuffs, everything declared and when they look at our cards they ask what we have and then it's straight through. Those that say they have absolutely nothing normally get held up and fall foul. With my job I can't afford to fall foul of the law and as such I do things straight down the line and can hold my head high.
