  1. Sorry to hijack the OP´s thread with a slightly different question on the topic of using 2 monitors. I thought highjacking it might be preferred to having another new thread. Apologies if this assumption was incorrect. ???? I am currently planning on adding a second monitor to my existing Dell U2717D. I have never used 2 monitors and only read a little bit about this topic but one comment I read that it would be advisable to use identical monitors. The Dell I am currently using is quite a few years old and it doesn´t seem to be available anymore. If I go and buy a newer model like the Dell U2722D would that be any issue at all when using it together with the older 2717D? I am just after the added screen space as I have too many windows open at the same time for just 1 27" monitor. I THINK (!) that any potential differences in the brightness etc of the 2 monitors will not be an issue. Mind you, since I have no experience at all with using 2 monitors I thought I better double check with the pros here on the forum. Thank you and, once again, apologies for highjacking this thread! 2. Mr Dummie re-read all your replies above again and again and finally made a change in the settings that, at least for now, allowed me o connect back to the 5Ghz network. Based on what was said above, even though Mr Dummie was soooo sure that it wouldn´t make a difference, logged into the router again and manually changed the channel settings for the 5Ghz network from Auto (on which this setting had been for over 1 year now) to channel 48 and that then allowed me to connect back to the 5Ghz network. It is certainly above Mr Dummie´s pay grade to understand why it had been working on "Auto" for over a year including this morning till the very moment that I briefly switched over to the 2.4Ghz network. It worked on "Auto" channel before so what has suddenly changed? It will remain a mystery for a tech dummie like myself but I am happy I can now connect to the 5Ghz network again. THANK YOU ALL for taking the time to reply to my post. I love the internet because of people like you who are so helpful! Cheers, DUS
  3. Fair question but no, I can see the password when typing it in and there is no potential numlock/capslock issue..... unfortunately. Tried removing the special characters but to no avail.
  4. Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to grab all these screenshots to visualise this step-by-step approach. Much appreciated! I did as suggested but, unfortunately, I still cannot connect to the 5Ghz network. It still tries to connect after I typed in the password for the 5Ghz network and then that window pops up again with the "connection failed" message. Oh dear, all this only because I manually switched to the 2.4Ghz network without any *real* reason. Sigh!
  5. Thank you for your reply. I must admit I have no idea what your first sentence means. As for special characters: yes, I do have the exclamation mark included in the password. As for any changes: no, nothing. I mean, 5Ghz worked flawlessly this morning, then I manually changed to 2.4Ghz and now I cannot revert back to the 5Ghz. That´s the situation that I cannot understand. ????
  6. Oh, I knew I had forgotten something. ???? After typing in the password and clicking on "connect" it tries to connect for a few seconds and then the window where I typed in the WPA2 password pops up again and in the bottom left corner above the "?" there is an additional exclamation mark in a triangle icon saying "connection failed" (well, the message I see is in a different language but the translation would be connection failed).
  7. Hi, As a tech dummie I am easily puzzled when something does not work or stops working and this time is no different. I am using a Mac Mini (late 2012) and am using WLAN to connect it to the internet. I have a True 1Gbps line at home and the Mini has/had been connected to the router´s 5Ghz network from the day True installed fiber. In the list of Wifi networks there have always been 2 SSIDs shown from my router, 1 for the 5Ghz network and the other for the 2.4Ghz network. Earlier this morning, Mr Dummie manually switched to the 2.4Ghz network in order to try something out (network speeds). The problem is that I would now love to go back to the 5Ghz network but I fail at doing so. When I selected my 5Ghz network from the list, a window popped up asking me for my password. I typed it in but there is always an error message popping up when it tries to connect to that network. I made sure that it is the correct password 100 times. I also double checked on the iPhone and iPad and the password works just fine and those 2 devices connect to the 5Ghz network without problems. Getting rather frustrated with the situation I then logged into my router and added another 5Ghz SSID. Restarted both the router and the Mac and the new, second 5Ghz showed up in the list of available Wifi networks on the Mac. I select the new one, typed in the new password and..... bang, same issue. It doesn´t connect to the new 5Ghz network either. So, I am now back on 2.4Ghz but would love to fix whatever issue there might be w.r.t. the 5Ghz on the Mac Mini. Being a dummie I am out of ideas of what I could try to fix the issue and would be grateful for any suggestions from one of you. Thank you! Best, DUS PS: iPhone and iPad connect to that additional 5Ghz network I set up just fine. Just not the Mac Mini.
  8. Oh, that´s good to know! When the customer support rep from HL wrote back that without a tax code provided by me, they would tax me at an emergency tax rate, I assumed that it was me who must provide a valid tax code to HL and not just the NINO. Will send another message to HL to get confirmation on this. Thank you so much, cleopatra2.
  9. Thank you both! Yes, I do have a NINO and I guess I could find a UTR somewhere in the documents I brought over to Thailand. As you say, hotandsticky, I am dreading the thought of reclaiming overpaid tax (more than once) but at the same time I yet have to figure out a way that payments are, ideally, made gross of UK taxation (if possible). Late last night I noted a page talking of applying for a Nil-Tax code for non-UK residents but need to dig deeper before really understanding if this is even available to me. Also saw a PDF form which related to this but when I saw that it requires the local (i.e. Thai) tax authorities to partially fill out and confirm my tax residency in the Kingdom, I almost immediately gave up hope since I expect this would be impossible to get from the tax man here in Bangkok. But maybe I am overly pessimistic. ???? Again, thanks for the initial feedback both of you provided. I will continue researching the topic and maybe, just maybe, HMRC will actually respond to the letter I sent to them 3 months ago. Yeah, right.... ???? Failing that, the HMRC helpline seems to be my last resort. As my 55th birthday is still about 6 months away, I can wait a little bit longer. Having said that, the earlier I have some clarity the better. So maybe I should call them soon. Cheers and best, DUS
  10. Hi, Feeling a bit overwhelmed with UK and international tax regulations so I thought I try asking on here. Who knows, maybe someone can provide some info and clarity. Would be great! I have a German passport, used to work in the UK a while back and have now been living in Thailand for the last 6 years or so. From my time in the UK I still have a SIPP which I can start dipping into come the end of this year. I contacted my pension provider (HL) and asked them about the process. They mentioned the 25% lump sum tax free payment and that the rest would be taxed according to my (PAYG) tax code. When I told them that I don’t have one they wrote back that in that case they would apply an emergency tax rate (I think that was the term they used) which I didn’t like the sound of. Lol Without going into too much detail with this first message, I wondered if there are users on here (Brits or Non Brits) who started drawing down their SIPP whilst not having a UK tax code. How did you go ahead with it? Paying high taxes at source and then claiming it back from HMRC? I am mentioning claiming back tax because my SIPP is fairly small at £20k and I plan to take out an amount below the UK’s annual tax allowance in each of the next 2 tax years. I am just trying to understand what the process is, which forms and supporting documents HMRC would require and so forth. I expect this process to be quite complicated but if someone already went through it maybe he or she can shed some light on it. Looking at gov.co.uk etc is rather intimidating :)) I would appreciate any suggestions, info and advice. Thank you!!! Cheers DUS
  11. I enjoy going to matches for the social encounters and the beers but not having to watch the rather <deleted> national team is a blessing. ;-)))
  12. Hi, the battery of my Apple Watch 4 needs replacing. I saw on the internet that Apple is offering to replace the battery for USD 79. I wondered if someone can recommend a "local shop" that offers this for a lower price. I contacted drsmartphone if they can do it but they can´t. So any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, DUS

  14. Thanks for your reply. May I ask which generic you opted for here in TH? When you had your follow-up bone densitometery tests, I hope you were satisfied with the results. Even though, of course, there isn´t necessarily a causation between this specific generic and your individual bone density. Anyway, thanks again and have a nice weekend.
  15. I would like to add a general question about generics: Earlier today, when I asked the Endocrinologist about MSD´s Fosamax vs generics, she said that she personally would rather buy "the original" than a local generic because she wasn´t 100% convinced the ingredients as well as the clinically proven results are identical. As a layman I had always expected generics to be a 100% clone of the formerly patented product but based on what she said, I might have been wrong. I will still never hesitate to take cheap generics for paracetamol and basic ailments but after what the doctor said earlier, I now wonder if taking generics for a slightly "more critical" condition such as osteoporosis poses the risk of taking less effective medication or not. What are the opinions on this here in the forum?
  16. Hi, I will soon start taking Fosamax against osteoporosis and just bought a box of 4 pills for TBH 1,750 at a local pharmacy. I´ve only been to 2 pharmacies so far today but both pharmacists said that they were not aware of a generic alternativ to MSD´s "original" product. Well, maybe there arent´ any or maybe they just make more money by selling the higher priced "original". I checked a website for my home country back in Europe and saw a lot of alternatives being advertised for a fraction of the price I paid here. Now, before I even start contemplating "importing" meds to TH, I thought I ask members of this forum if you are aware of a generic product available locally here in TH. If so, I´d be delighted to hear from you. Thank you! Cheers, DUS
  17. Thank you very much Sheryl. That is indeed valuable information. And you might be surprised to hear that Bria responded to an email within minutes! Actually I received 2 emails from them (one from the @info and one from the labsales team) with slightly different quotes but, yes, they are 60% or so cheaper than the quote I got from BNH. Assuming that they are a reliable lab, I certainly tend to visit them. Thanks again, Sheryl!
  18. Hello Sheryl and all.... I contacted the lab and I loved the fact that they responded to my email asking for a quote within 30 minutes or so. Excellent! Unfortunately, whilst they provided quotes for almost all tests I needed, there are 3 tests that are unavailable there: PTH = unavailable- Ionized Calcium = unavailable- Free testosterone = unavailable Does anyone know of a lab that I should contact to see if they offer those 3 missing tests? Would be terrific! Cheers DUS
  19. You can chose Thai or English. The English commentary is the one from Sky UK.
  20. In Thailand the rights are with Truevisions and they show the F1 on Truesports 1 HD.
  21. Thank you! I had seen that but it looked odd to me that you’d have to travel south to Phuket town and then back north towards Krabi. If it’s the only option I will just head to Krabi straight from Ranong. Again, thanks for your reply above.
  22. Hi, I know it is a long shot but I wondered if someone knows if and how I can get from Khao Lak to Krabi by either van or bus. Currently, I plan to go direct from Ranong to Krabi but I am toying with the idea of stopping over for a night or so in Khao Lak, as I haven´t visited the place for many years. I read that there was a direct bus from Ranong to Khao Lak but I couldn´t find any information on how much hassle it might be to continue the journey from there to Krabi. Anyone with some recent information? Would be great! Cheers DUS
  23. That’s an interesting point and something I had forgotten. Thank you! I‘m covered „globally exUSA“. But I think there was an option to go for „Asia ex SIN, CHN“, too. Will check with CIGNA by how much this would reduce the premium.
