I'd say if you could get your nest egg up to 600k $CDN, and reinvest 1/3 of your monthly distribution, then maybe you could make a go of it here as far as living expenses go. BUT, that doesn't count capital drawdown for things like a house, car, etc. Also, that estimate is based on $CDN staying at or above .9 $USD.

I've had several good experiences with North Wheels. They deliver the car to and pick up from my house in central CM. They have always delivered what was requested, on time and been friendly and professional. They have a web site showing the vehicles available and their rates.
I concur. North Wheels is very good.

Before building in Lamphun, or even Hang Dong, I'd talk to locals to see if the property floods (especially paddy fields).

Things are changing, thats for sure. I feel the US is turning into a police state. Anything for security though. Its worth it! (Uh huh)
Maybe you just don't get around much. I've been travelling to Europe for the past 25 years before coming here, and military personnel carrying automatic weapons could be seen throughout most major airports. One thing about the Europeans though, they are more discrete. Nothing Uncle Sam does is ever subtle.

Well, it doesn't look all that difficult to changeover, but not wishing to take any chances I gave the job to a 9 year old. She got it done in about 10 minutes.

The 24 white buses were a n ice addition, though use was slow at first. I note that the rideship has improved a great deal. I see also they've sold ad space all over the buses. Hopefully those revenues will find their way into city coffers.
I read a couple of months ago that they were going to order 150 more buses. I think that's a good idea, if at the same time they get rid of all the song taews operating in the city limits.

Since we're on the subject of signing documents.....
I usually leave the Thai bashing to others as I find there's little I can't adjust to, including this, but it is a minor annoyance. Why do they always hand you blank papers to sign here? Every bank I've done business with here does it, as well as all utilities. I'd been conditioned since youth never to sign a blank sheet of paper and it's one of the few things that continues to regularly bother me here. Sorry for the OT.
me dum Thai not understand.
Sorry; unclear; you are telling me they are asking you to sign pieces of paper with absolutely nothing on them?!!!
THat's got me totally flumoxed. I have never had to do this. Ever.
never.
Never ever.
Ever never ever.
etc
Or...you mean you have to sign photocopies of things. I can understand that...but this is a completely blank sheet of paper?!
I wouldn't be too keen to do that either....
Here's an example. Yesterday I went to change my internet service. There were 3 forms involved, none of which were filled out yet by the counter person. She first hands me the forms to sign (blank) and then proceeds to fill it out. At the bank if I want to make a withdrawl, on every occasion they've had me sign a receipt before I rexceive the money. I don't do it anymore and they seem perturbed by this. Again, I'm not bashing anyone. I just find it an unusual business practice.

Intriuged, do they forgive "sinners" as I am getting past the point of redemption !
Hi roytheboy.
At this point it might be a good idea for you to read an introductory book on Buddhism. Might I suggest:
"What the Buddha Taught" by Venerable Dr. W. Rahula

The Chiang Mai Night Safari/ Elephant Camp/Boondoggle was planning on opening a "Long Neck Village" for exploiting these people. The Padaung sent a group of elders to see the setup the government offered. They refused, and now the givernment sponsored intimidation is starting.

I'd consider using those arrow shaped stick on "Post Its" that my lawyer sticks on documents, indicating where to sign. Did you do that already? If not, you should.

LANNAREBIRTH
Have English manual for the L2602DT-M – do you want a whole manual or are you looking for a certain section – can copy you the section you need by email , no prob’s but will have to post you a copy of the whole manual if you need.
Front grill – which one do you have: the early models have a grill that runs the full length of the front has holes for the lights, whereas the later ones have a lower grill section around the lights, and a higher grill section where the badge is, which is separated from the lower section by a strip of tin work that forms the front cowling.
And of course, is it grey/silver in colour or is it white?
In both cases can supply the genuine article or can supply a Chinese made “copy” – which is much cheaper.
Hi MaizeFarmer,
Tim, I'm not sure which manual you're talking about. Do ou have one comprehensive manual that is sort of a combination of the 3? Operatpr's, Parts (showing exploded views), and repair? I have both Thai and Japanese, but they're little use to me. I think I'd like all you have on that model.
As for the grill, I'm going from memory, but I'll get a photo tomorrow. It's got 2 rectangular headlight holes at the bottom a black mesh grill w/ "sunshine" written diagonally across it and an orange rectangular frame. Dare I ask, can you get decal sets for this model?

- by training I am an ag engineer and a side line to the farm is building water pump systems, higher rise ag sprayers, providing service & parts for small Iseki and Kubota tractors, and I construct small wind turbines.
Hi Tim,
Can you get English language Operator's, Parts, and Repair manuals for a Kubota L2602DT-M tractor? I found some on the internet from America but many seem to be abridged manuals. How about a front grill? TIA

You can have all the criminal creepy fantasies you want. Not a crime.
Not so, you can be jailed for possession of kiddy porn irrespective of whether you assault anyone.
Yes so.
I agree the porn charges are real and never said differently. He will answer to those minor misdemeanor charges in California. That is a specific charge. Thinking and fantasizing isn't a crime.
However, owning kiddie porn is a crime in many countries and he will have to answer to that.
Nancy Grace just called Thailand again "THE SEX TRADE CAPITAL OF WORLD"
The madness never stops!
I don't watch TV so I don't know what the media are sayin, but just a couple things about your post. I believe as to the California charges he was tried in abstentia and found guilty. That he is a fugitive is a separate felony charge in most states, and in many cases the time served for being a fugitive from justice is greater than the original charge. Also, Thailand IS "THE SEX TRADE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD".

I'm happy to see no mention of the Ching Mai Night Safari. I encourage all Chiang Mai residents to boycott that boondoggle, which is only notable for it's unusual cruelty to animals. I would hope you'd encourage your overseas guests to do the same.

At least that is a fulltime relationship.
Better than the 5000 mile away one where anything and everything goes on and then you do nothing about it except possibly forgive her.
distance has nought to do with it mate - if a person will cheat it can happen right under your nose, regardless of time/location/distance.
"Distance has nought to do with it"
Are you for real!!
So you think that someone who is getting every thing that they need, emotionaly, phisicaly and every other way is just as likely to cheat as someone who has been abandoned with nothing but a few phone calls.
I used to have a job that kept me away from home for months at a time. It also allowed me to have months at a time of free time. It's just one of the things some relationships have to deal with. For me it was no big deal, nor was it for my significant other. That said, there's something else wrong about this thread that I can't put my finger on. Everything's just a bit too pat.

the father of my baby is thai ,im english and living in bangkok. when i was 5 months pregnant he suddenely changed his mind and left me !! I m happy here despite him deserting me !! and planned for the baby to be born here . we never registered the marriage .does anyone know anything regarding the thai law and if the father is responsible to pay child maintenance /support or if i have any rights at all . many thanks louise
Hi Louise,
You could go to family court and through court mandated DNA testing (or father stipulates) establish paternity. The court will likely grant a judgement in your favor for some small monthly sum. The judgement for all intents and purposes is unenforceable from what I've seen.
Of greater importance IMO, is, have you established citizenship for the child? Both Thai and wherever you came from? Do you have passports for the child? Could the father, if he chose to resurfac, create custody problems for you as a shakedown?

Do you have any chance to get the deposit payment back? Did you buy from a developer or directly from the owner of the property?
Anyone have any suggestions for this dilemma?
If it were me, I think I would PM the TV poster named " Nadia2" and put my questions to her. She appears to be both savvy and cautious with regard to real estate legal issues.

I'm not from the UK, but your wife not being able to recieve benefits after your death doesn't sound right to me. I did a quick Google and there's lots of information out there on this topic of "UK husband deceased pension benefit". Anyway, it seems they changed the laws there in 2001 and benefits are situational. Here's a possibly helpful link:

For the price you quote try Rimping Condo. They have condos that are around 120sq mts with full on river/city / Doi Sutep views and if you catch one on the NW corner the balcony is easily 20sq mts. Flora will also fit in with your budget as will most other condo blocks in town. The 2 that I mention are both just to the east of the river across Nakornping bridge.
Sorry Mahseer. I haven't actually seen them in person so they may be really nice places but on the internet the pictures seemed to make them look more directed towards a family style setup. They definitely have the size I'm looking for so maybe I'll check them out and then just move a few things around to my liking. I'm looking for the business, bachelor type setup.
By the way...No one answered any of my questions on Hillside 4. Does anyone know if they have one bedroom apartments or larger? I'm jealous of the people that have those if they do.
I think Hillside 4 has condos of 45 sqm and 90sqm. As you probably noticed it's like the catacombs in there. Pretty dreary IMO. I understand that people living there with balconies usually must keep doors closed and curtains drawn to limit heat, noise, smoke/dust. Up to you.
For my money I'd check out the Rimping favoring westerly views. I don't know the Floral but it seems nice.

I like your point of learning from the experience. There's much that I see from what's happening that makes sense to me as to why it's all happening in the first place. There are many rumblings beneath the surface of this event.
Tip,
I'm very sorry to hear that your worst fears are, in your mindm becoming confirmed. I'd like to commend you for not allowing hate to take hold of your emotions in these circumstances.
From reading your story I was reminded of times past, in my own life, where partnerships, either professional or personal failed. In almost all cases there was an unequal level of commitment and energy by one party(me, maybe you too), As the relationships proceeded many, many times there would be warning signs that the other party's level of commitment was less than what would be necessary to sustain a healthy partnership. For whatever reasons I tended to ignore these things and work harder to create the outcome I desired. The truth is, I never did, and in the end I could only point to my own greed and delusion(no matter how well I and others thought of my intentions) as the contributing factor in the failure.
I could be barking up the wrong tree here Tip, and if I am I apologize. It's just that some of the things you've done for this woman, and some of the things you've let her slide on, kinda reminded me of me at one time. I'd lie to myself that things might work out because I'm a good guy and hard worker, but what I really was, was delusional.
I overcame these self-sabotaging ways, and if any of that applies to you, I know you will too. It's easy to stop being stupid, the hard part is to continue being kind and generous without being stupid. It's a work in progress. Best to you.

Has any beef farmer in Thailand tried Brangus cattle yet? A friend of mine was the first to introduce that strain to Baja California 20 years ago and they have thrived.
Cyclist safety on Chiang Mai streets
in Chiang Mai
Posted
In the 4 short years I've been in Chiang Mai, I've witnessed about 30 collisions with motorbikes/bicycles (probably 25% of which were fatal. I've happened upon the scene of countless other accidents that I didn't eyewitness. Lots of bodies covered in sheets.
I understand the need for fuel economy and global citizenship of sparing precious resources, but if you're going to move around in Thailand, you'd better wrap some steel around you.
