  1. I don't see the relevance of them being a ladyboy. A person was killed because of someone else's incompetence, greed and disregard for safety.
  2. This is a great idea. Any Thais that buy property abroad must renounce their Thai citizenship. They obviously are not true Thais if they're living abroad and putting their money into another country instead of into the 'Kingdom'.
  3. Then they will say, let the wife and children buy it, because they are Thai. And if you're 'established' in the 'Kingdom', then just let the wife or kids buy.
  4. Is there a website that shows planning permission applications and approvals for land and developments? I'm looking at a condo to buy and want to check if there are any approved developments on nearby land and buildings.
  5. The family should take some responsibility for not keeping a closer watch on the girl.
  6. Thailand and masterplan are two words that should never be used together.
  7. What are the rules surrounding bringing Thai antiques into Thailand. For example, these are antiques, mostly 19th century, that originate from Thailand but have been bought in the UK. They aren't for resale, just small items to furnish a room.
  8. Throwback to the time a few years ago when officials sprayed water in the air because they throughly it would help. Not forgetting the giant extractor fans that put at a few places. Unfortunately Bangkok is too far gone thanks to cheap car loans introduced in the Taksin era and successive years of banks pushing high borrowing to Thais desperate to keep face show off material possessions. Now everyone has a car in a city that doesn’t have the planning or management to cope.
  9. Does anybody know what these white boxes are on the concrete post? There are lots of black communications cables but I'm not sure what the white things are. It's on Sukhumvit 15 in Bangkok.
  10. Seems like there's more to this story. Three years seems a long time to keep five people inside a condo while torturing them. Let's hope these men are brought to justice.
  11. The funds that were supposed to be used to fix it somehow, by mistake, were sent to a local official's grandmother's bank account, and somehow, by mistake, they bought three rai of land, a new house and a new pickup truck. Then another mistake happened and the money was accidentally used to order three gold chains.
  12. Has anyone been bought to justice for this fire yet? The owners, managers? The local police, the local officials that received payments to turn a blind eye so it could operate illegally?
  13. I use Wise to transfer in, Dee Money to transfer out. It's pretty easy, all done by app and not strict. Though you will lose a lot on fees and exchange rates transferring back and forth.
  14. Thailand - corrupt to the core in every walk of society.
  15. Congratulations, you're more Thai than me
  16. Ah, always someone else’s responsibility.
  17. Civic pride. Responsibility for your community. It’s not a thing in Thailand.
  18. A foreigner has been praised for cutting a public patch of grass... with locals asking why can't Thais do that? The volunteers used a trimmer to improve the appearance at the southern gate of Chumphon. Comments on the Facebook post from locals praised the man, who was clearly struggling in the hot sun and not in the best of shape physically. There was a second foreign volunteer with him. There were lots of comments on the post, with locals wondering why no Thais had taken it upon themselves to cut the grass and keep things looking tidy. https://www.facebook.com/groups/chumphonnews/permalink/5179618455475945/?sfnsn=mo&ref=share
  19. Just how serious is the flooding situation in Bangkok long-term as well as the sinking issue? I've been looking at condos around Phrom Pong to buy with a budget of eight million baht. That amount doesn't go far, and for anything of decent size of up to 100 square metres you're pretty limited to the older buildings, where the price is around 80,000 - 90,000 Baht / square metre. Having lived and worked in Bangkok for a few years I'd like to buy and have the funds to do so. But the flooding issue keeps coming up again and again. Tim Newton mentions it repeatedly (video below) and I just can't see the government tackling the issues. The other issue is travel and air pollution - traffic is rising again with cars, buses, trucks and motorcycles back on the road again. Driving around Bangkok can be horrible which leaves MRT / BTS (longer but Ok) or dicing with death on a motorcycle, with exhaust fumes filling your lungs while waiting at traffic lights. At age 37, unmarried, with no kids, and a first time buyer, I'm unsure about investing such a large amount into a property which is almost guaranteed not to rise in value and will possibly fall in price if the above factors worsen.
