Thai tourism revolution: Duty-free ditch and booze bonanza
RandolphGB replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This makes no sense, whichever way you look at it. How these people get into positions of power is certainly not through ability and hard work.- 78 replies

Soi 4 has lots of hotels that many tourists will book without knowing the street is a gutter full of the absolute dregs of humanity. Any woman walking alone there is not safe and faces being ogled, groped and accosted by all manner of dirt bags, particularly those from the Sub Continent and Middle East. She was highlighting the problem and trying to save other women from going there by mistake. But as usual, Thais are thin-skinned to any kind of criticism and arrest the messenger, rather than fix the actual problem. Why don't they want to fix the problem? Because police profit from crime all along Nana and Sukhumvit. They don't police criminals, they protect criminals. In many cases, the police are the criminals, and own the same bars. It will never change, as it's deeply embedded in Thai culture from the very top to bottom.

Subsidy approved to discourage sugarcane farmers from burning canes
RandolphGB replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Every problem in Thailand is due to laziness. This is just another example. It's easier to burn sugar cane husks than harvest them in tact. It's easy for the government to offer subsidies then enforce laws correctly. -

Chinese airlines cancel flights to Thailand as demand drops
RandolphGB replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Cambodia, Bali, Laos and other countries in Southeast Asia and beyond are all starting to develop their tourism industries to attract the Chinese. Thailand has a lot more competition from neighboring countries, where people are actually welcoming to tourists. -

Plane tickets, taxis, fuel, hotels, food, drinks... anything where payments are mad. VAT and income / profit tax from the business all find their way to the establishment. The moment you spend money in a country, part of that ends up in the government. If you don't understand that, you're just not intelligent or experienced enough to have any discussion with. -
Thais are so kind. They will make sure to give the foreigner the best service possible, at the highest prices possible. Especially high because it's a life-threatening situation. They definitely would not exploit that. Then they're so kind, they'll keep them on their paradise island for as long as they like, until they have paid every last penny.

The Thais and Filipinos who went to Israel knew the risks. There is a long history of violence and war there. They went for money. And they were paid 8 to 10 times what they could earn at home. There are still commercial flights from Tel Aviv, so I see no reason why they can't buy their own tickets instead of relying on the government and tax payer to bring them back.
