  1. I have occasionally lent a few thousand to a friend in need and he did repay me. But at other times I had to say No.
  2. 5/10. I am 85 and was enjoying life until I had back surgery, which seemed like necessary. Maybe it was and maybe it wasn't! A relatively simple procedure but it did not cure the pain and now use meds which are effective. I do not fear death but still want to live a bit more. Only problem now is mobility and want to get back on my feet and walk around without a walker/zimmer frame. It has only been 2 weeks since the procedure but I want to get out and about, so practice walking every day.
  3. I have had injections for Wet Macular Degeneration for 10 or more year both in USA and Thailand. As for pain, upon injection, there is sometimes an unpleasant feeling as the eye is jabbed but lasting only a second or two. Afterwards it depends on what eye medicine they put in the eye to help control any pain. The worse was Rutin Eye Hospital in Bangkok where the after effects lasted for about 24 hours, like sand in the eye. There is a gel which may be used which eliminates the pain but blurs the vision for about 24 hour. Cost in Thailand runs from 9,000-12,000 Baht and much more depending on the medicine used for injection. Initially they use Avastin at 3000 Baht plus 9000 in related costs, for a monthly injection. But as time progresses the newer medicine, Eylea, costs about 20,000 ( or much more) Baht in total but only every two months., In USA the cost is $15 because of medical insurance. The best experience I have had was at Houston Eye, in Houston Texas. Very professional, quick and no pain upon injection and no pain or pain medication after injection.

    Pattaya Tai, in Pattaya.
  5. anotherexpat, you didn't mention the cause of your knee pain? That might be important as to the type of painkiller you need. Or possibly you need a knee replacement?
  6. I have lower back pain and have tried Naproxen, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac Oral, with only moderate pain relief . The only med that alleviates back pain is one containing Tramadol but use it only occasionally due to possible addiction. My brother used a pain med for back pain and became addicted to it thus I am leery of continued use of Tramadol. However it completely eliminates any pain . I also use Diclofenac gel for Achilles tendonitis which is very effective. Will try Celebrex and see how that works for back pain.
  7. I have heard good reviews of Tarka House in Pattaya from friends who have eaten there. Will try it. Another good Indian restaurant is Indigo across the soi from Boyztown.
  8. Then there are the "farang" who refer to every Asian male as a "boy" regardless of age.

  12. The Chinese have a satellite orbiting the moon which relays information from the lander to the satellite and then onto the Earth.
  13. You really need an X-Ray and MRI of your back to determine the cause of the pain. If there is deterioration of the spine there are various stretches to help but nothing will completely eliminate it other than possibly surgery, and that is problematic.

In Jomtien Complex there is a bar which has Trivia Night about once a week, on Tuesday. Believe the name is BuBu bar and is located close to Dick's Cafe. Coming from the beach area it is located on the first entrance into Jomtien Complex aka Supertown

roger101 says he has mobility problems which may rule out Fitness 7 since there is a long flight of stairs to reach the gym. Otherwise it is a good choice. Cost is 1600 Baht/month.

  20. I have/had a farang friend here in Pattaya who is having a mental health issue and does not understand nor believe it. I have suggested he try to get medical help but he tells me I am the crazy one. It is very frustrating to try to help him or even speak with him. I do fear for his safety but do not know how to help him.

  22. If you had chicken pox as a child you are at risk of shingles as an adult. If you have not had chicken pox you are not at risk for shingles.
  23. One thing you must do is have a trusted friend, such as Executor, and give him PINs for your ATM cards to your bank account. Don't leave these numbers in your safe or where someone can have access to them. You can put these numbers on your mobile device/computer if you wish. Also give your trusted friend a key to your room in case of emergency and access to your safe. Once you die the police will come to your room to get your Passport and whatever else and lock the room. This is especially important for someone who lives alone.
  24. I received Shingrix in USA and no side effects. My second injections was almost one year from the first .
