  1. Will you be showing the ManUtd - Newcastle Utd game on Monday night (starts at 19:00 GMT)? Are you open that late?

Sorry PFV too late for us but try here

Thanks to all to all those that joined the league.

It doesn't look that hard to be honest
not hard to pick a team Winnie the tricky thing is staying at the top of the league.

Good luck to all and to all supporters of Premier League Clubs, this is the only time of the season where everyone gets to be optimistic. :)

  2. The Premier League returns this weekend. :)

At Tuskers we have set up the big screen viewing area that proved so popular during the World Cup and will be running promotions throughout the season. This week we have a Buy 2 Get 1 Free Offer on all drinks for people enjoying the matches and there are some great opening weekend games including Spurs v Man City at 6.45pm Saturday and Liverpool v Arsenal at 10pm on Sunday.

For those that like to play a more interactive role over the season Tuskers has a Fantasy Football League. Our league code is 138464-41079. Entry is free, there is a prize for Manager of the Month, the leader at Christmas and at the end of the season.

    All are welcome.

  3. Here you go Niloc many copies available if you need them. I find Abebooks fabulous for finding more obscure stuff and most shops will email to Thailand after you have contacted them.

Actually I'd quite like to read The Great Game myself.

  4. Siam TV have 3 models of gas over with 2/3 rings for 9,000 or under. I bought a Zanussi oven, 3 ring hob there for 6,000 baht. Cooks just fine.

They also have more expensive options as does Homepro which has a range of ovens up to 60,000 baht if you have cash coming out of your ears.

  5. The cheapest 32' LCD/Plasma screens are between 10,000-12,000 baht. Siam TV and Niyom Panich both have offers at different times. Makro also had one on special at a good price a couple of weeks ago but the offer may have ended.

A DVD player with a USB port is a much cheaper option if you already have a TV. They can be as cheap as 700 baht available anywhere that sells electronics. Makro has a good selection.

  6. Over the past couple of months Makro has cut back on the numbers of herbs and spices it carries. Don't know why for a while they had an excellent selection. I think your best chance is the guy in Wororot.

  7. The vuvuzela has only been mass produced since 2001 so hardly a long standing tradition. I have no problem with them at South Africa games if their fans want them but the World Cup belongs to fans from all countries not just the host nation and all their traditions are being drowned out.

Look at this video of South African football fans and tell me that it is not what you would prefer to see and hear at this World Cup. It is also more in keeping with genuine African traditions. Sends shivers down my spine.

  8. No slur is intended on South Africa or their fans but the vuvuzela must go!

It is ruining the crowd atmosphere at the games; singing from fans, team bands, samba drums are all being eliminated from the party in favour of this pernicious horn. By all means keep them for South Africa games but let the fans of other teams have the opportunity to show their passion.

If anyone uses Facebook please join this group which is growing fast and spread the word. The group has already got media attention and if it gets in the millions I believe action will be taken.

  9. Right now we have the commentary sorted can we all try to get the vuvuzela banned from stadiums.

  10. Tuskers now has English commentary from the BBC. We have just tested it during the first half of the Slovenia v Algeria game. At the moment the audiis is about a second ahead of the picture but we believe we can rectify this tomorrow.

Grateful thanks go to the UN Irish Pub for generously sharing their experience and know how and one of my customers who is a bit of a computer geek. :)

  11. I know what time it is in Sa and here and i also know how to change the times on the fifa homepage!THX!!

I just wanted to point out a small mistake made by tuskers that confused me!!The schedulded this 2 games wrong!

    post-83617-084208600 1276326427_thumb.pn

Sorry, my mistake absolutely. Corrected now.

If there are enough people interested we will happily show the Germany v Australia game. The number of people in at midnight will be the deciding factor. It is long enough day for the staff and they will be working late many times this month. PM me if you are interested in watching this game.

  12. Was at Tuskers from 8.00pm last night with the wife to watch the football. The place was lively, with plenty of South African Jersey wearing fanatics, blowing their loud trumpets, and making a quiet dinner for two out of order. They had two big screens, one in HD and set up like a movie cinema and also a small tv above the bar, and with the cheap 55baht large LEO the place had all the ingredients for a good night. Unfortunately when the game kicked off between SA and Mexico, they seemed to have problems with the audio, and for the first 10 mins we had audio only coming from the small TV. When they finally soughted out the sound it came through in Thai commentary. We left at half time so I'm not sure if they got the English on the tube, all I know is when I got home to watch it free to air, it was the same Thai commentary. Since this topic was venues that have the world cup in ENGLISH commentary. Would anyone like to recommend any other good venues for the football, with English Commentary, or share their experiences last night....football related:lol:

Thank you for your feedback Brent. Generally apart from a few hitches I think last night at Tuskers was a resounding success with over 20 different nationalities in the bar including fans from both South Africa and Mexico :).

I have discussed the English commentary issue on previous posts in the thread and the situation remains that I will test systems during tonight's 6.30 game. If Supersport is back on that will obviously help.

Last night for the first 10 minutes we tried just game noise only but it was a disaster because of the constant hum of the vuvuzelas that's why we switched to Thai commentary which was much better. I was never going to play around with internet feeds last night with so many people in the bar. I have heard that some of the English internet commentary was on a 5 second delay which in my opinion is utterly pointless and totally distracting. If anyone has better experiences I would be happy to hear it.

This topic is about the general watching of the World Cup as well as the English commentary debate. Last night's atmosphere was electric even though most of the football was sub par and the feedback I had was overwhelmingly positive. I will keep working on the commentary issue to try to bring the very best World Cup experience to people in Chiang Mai

  13. At last the day has finally arrived :)

English commentary? I ask again because Dragonfly Bar says it will have it?

My position is exactly the dame as in my previous post. I will test English commentary tomorrow during the South Korea v Greece game. Just game noise tonight and the atmosphere in the bar

  15. Hmm, will these places only show say UK/ European matches? What about Japan or S.Korea? I'm really interested in going out to watch the S.Korean matches on a nice big screen. :)

On another note... Anyone know where I can get the S.Korean jersey ( the white one. I hate the red one... looks like hot pink at times. lol )? I still havent gotten one yet in all these years. :/

Tuskers will be screening any games in which there is interest. South Korea v Greece 6.30pm Saturday. Should be an interesting contrast of styles and both teams will fancy they have a chance of qualifying from Group B.

Japan v Cameroon on Monday at 9pm and I know lots of Dutch people that will be keeping an eye on that one.

That for me is the wonderful thing about the World Cup watching teams with totally different footballing cultures and styles battle it out.

  16. I think that's a brilliant idea Winnie. Providing there's qualified people around, that could be heaps of fun, especially after everyone's had a few rounds. Make things a bit more interesting. Whatchya think Chaz?

It does sound fun and technically speaking it is easy to set up. However having done some commentary myself (very badly) I know it is very hard to do. And I did cricket which is somewhat slower than football. However if anyone wants to try it get in contact and we can have some tests during the early evening games. We could even have commentary competitions five minutes each with those present voting on the winmer. Might liven up a dull game.

Abnyone interested PM me and we'll work out some details.

  17. Has the 'English' commentary found a work-around yet? is Tuskers having English commentary?

At the moment Tuskers cannot guarantee English commentary. We have a number of possible solutions involving listening to simultaneous radio commentary but there are technical problems with synchronising with the action on the screen. It the two are not married up it will be worse than useless. If Anders has solved this problem then very good luck to him. I will be running tests during the South Korea V Greece game to see if it can be achieved.

However I have been in contact with True and they are going to broadcast game noise with no commentary on the second audio channel (well at least they say the are :) ) which is what I will be showing if the English commentary does not work out. I am anticipating that for the big games at least the atmosphere will make commentary more or less redundant anyway.

If anyone is playing the official Fantasy World Cup game you are welcome to join our league at 120022-28267.

Excitement is definitely building and I can't wait for the opening on Friday.

  18. Yes I looked into slingbox, maybe the internet connections available in BK are better but I have been assured by people who have it set up in CM that there is no way it would be of broadcast quality in a bar. Passable for although not perfect by any means for watching at home on your PC but that's about it.

    Sorry Bangkok Blue.

  19. Like others, Tuskers were 'guaranteed' an English commentary option on first enquiring about the HD Box. This guarantee was repeated no less than 5 times right up to and including at installation. In retrospect I now wish I had written 'Subject to promised English commentary' on the contract (Doh!). In my view True Visions have deliberately misled the English speaking public in order to get sales of their HD system. I am sure there are many that would agree with this.

I would be interested in hearing by PM from anyone that feels they have been equally misled and has purchased the HD box. I know we probably won't get anywhere with it but there are still steps that can be taken and the more subscribers we have prepared to complain the better chance we have of getting something back. Also I would like to lobby True to have a game noise but no Thai commentary option played on their second audio channel. That way we can get the atmosphere of the games without having to listen to Thai commentators.

Almost certainly there will be no English commentary. C'est la vie there is still a World Cup to watch and I can't wait.

  20. Well, since you asked so nicely Uptheos here it is. :)
