Extensions are for tourist visas. Why would you want to come for a holiday in Thailand at this time? If you are a tourist you should be returning to your home country asap.
Still possible to obtain flights to all major countries.
Travelling at these times is dangerous. My country embassy has advised me to stay where I am.

Total visa amnesty for a period of emergency. You want people to stay home or not? Yesterday at immigration office I felt like there is no Covid19 at all. Business as usual. That’s an idiocy.

Sincerely hope they will shut down all those disease spreading immigration offices starting 26.03. All immigration workers should be assured that they will be allowed to continue playing their visa games right after the Covid epidemic is taken under full control.

I went for a 30 day extension this morning, arrived at immigration at about 10:30am I was out before 11:00am
About 15 people for various things in the immigration office.
Where was that office? I witnessed not less than 300 people at the immigration in Jomtien yesterday.

This isn't how my wife tells the story of the Airport Link virus line at rush hour ..... I can only hope they enforce this but I am doubtful to say the least
I wonder what happens when there are more than 3 passengers for every BTS wagon? That distancing game will surely be much more difficult to play then.

what are your options?
I got 7 day extension for 1900 baht. Now my options:
1. to leave the country if possible
2. hope for the change of policy by immigration and reapply for another extension in 7 days. Or be granted an automatic extension with everybody else (the best but unlikely scenario).
3. an overstay for not more than 90 days. Quite risky in the current unpredictable situation.

Read the thread in Visa section. Almost without exclusions. Me myself was refused an extension yesterday after spending an hour in the crowd of hundreds of farangs. I pray God I was not infected.

seems like they are just following the UK's lead
what about immigration offices that right now have long lines going out into the street 100's of people ????????????
And most of those hundreds are asked to visit their embassies in Bangkok to get any extension of stay. State of emergency? Hardly.

In times like these the goal of the government should have been to make life of people (let's assume that farangs are still the human beings in the eyes of the Thais) easier. Visa amnesty for one month and for everybody would prevent thousands of people moving around the country and gathering in big groups at the immigration offices. Thus preventing the spread of the virus.
Now look what we have in practice. Not only they (the immigration) provoked the panic amongst farangs about their status and made them come to the immigration in droves. They also made the process even harder and more complicated. Now all those poor farangs have to make another trip to their embassies in Bangkok to get the ORIGINAL letters. And somebody interprets this madness as a step towards farangs in this situation? Really? Are you kidding me?

5 minutes ago, vermin on arrival said:What I meant by this was will the punitive measures such as potential trip to IDC and travel ban if arrested be voided as the tourism minister proposed. I have no desire to overstay, but will not just jump on a plane to anywhere right now for a variety of reasons. I don't think this measure was only for people stuck in an airport although individual IOs can interpret things how they want. Certainly I am not using this to hang about in a bar and have every intent and reasonable cause to apply for an emergency extension.
The bars are closed for some time already. As well as many other public places. Because it is dangerous out there. These days the mass gatherings are reserved for the farangs only at the immigration offices across the country.

Since the Coronavirus is on the rise in Thailand I predict a general visa amnesty in a week time. Immigration offices will be definitely closed very soon after several of their workers will contract a virus. Never saw the same amount of visitors as today at Jomtien immigration. Should not it be the opposite? Enough idiocy.

It’s not a criminal offence.
They have announced extension options to avoid overstay. Choosing not to leave is not the same as not being able to leave.
what options exactly did they announce? Getting a letter from the embassy which refuses to provide it?

Yes how about sticking to the facts, https://tratimmigration.com/thailand-visa-overstay-regulations/
Also from you link:
‘The good news is that if your overstay is under 90 days and you pay the fine then leave the country then you won’t have any problem returning to Thailand at a future date. There won’t be any black mark next to your name.’
not the best but still the option

If the country goes into lockdown, which it probably will, they will want to know the whereabouts of every foreigner, and IMO many overstayers will get caught in those circumstances.
People without long term visa options should leave.
It is irresponsible to recommend/suggest overstaying as an option. End of!
To this date nobody died from overstay. Unlike from coronavirus spreading fast day by day. Whose advice might be more harmful at the end: mine or yours? Reality has changed but some people (like you and Thai immigration authority) refuse to accept it. Now it is time for each individual to decide what suits his/her interest the best and act accordingly.

The air in a plane is filtered and safe. You will only get infected by close contact with another passenger or picking the virus up from infected surfaces.
You are crammed into a room at the IDC — possibly for weeks/month — and have a massive risk of infection.
Being caught and arrested maybe a small risk, but if it happened I guarantee you’d regret your decision not to fly!
Have they tested those magic filters for coronavirus already?

Getting attested and locked up in the IDC is the last thing anyone should plan for; that doesn’t want COVID-19.
Come on. Chances to get arrested are slim especially now when people stay 95%+ of time at home.
My advise to everybody on overstay is to change the phone number registered with the immigration and, preferably, to change your old mobile device too. Theoretically, they could track down people using the mobile phone’s location. Also, change apartment while you have a valid visa in case the current address is also registered at the immigration. With these precautions everybody should be fine.

Extremely upsetting that Jomtien Immigration seems so stubborn here. Hearing from fellow country men that extensions are not a problem in Phuket and other Immigration points.
You that know: would it be possible for me to check in in a hotell in phuket for ~3 days and make the extension there? Not optimal, but would it work?It may work. In case they don’t ask for the embassy letters there.

came in on visa exempt stamp. And extended one time already. Came with original poster letter and also generic USA embassy from other poster.
immigration official insisted the letter need my name and that I need to pay the embassy money to crate it.
I showed her the unavailable appointment slots printed out from USA embassy website. She said it was not her business. I told her I could not get an appointment and and there are no walk ins. Fell on dear ears.
there was a young American girl with the same letter and email correspondence from embassy (I didn’t have email correspondence) and she was denied too. Perhaps because they seem to have an argument (I could hear them from the sitting area) the young American girl did not get even seven days.
as I was waiting for my passport and extra seven days an elderly gentlemen also came in with the same letter.
the immigration officer repeated her story and insisted we all needed this letter. This was in the “K” section the section for visa exempt arrival extensions.
I saw two other people with the letter get rejected. Not looking good.
at least seven days puts me past Malaysia lock down? What are my options for visa runs on April 5?
what a headache.
Same story here at Jomtien immigration today. Was on tourist visa, extended it for 30 days on 19.02. Waited in the long line with hundreds of people. Refused extension - letter from embassy needed (to be honest - did not expect anything else from these awful people). Got 7 days extension only - for 1900 baht. Let’s hope Thailand gets totally shut down during this week so they will have no choice but to extend my stay.

Covid-19: Government to impose state of emergency

Still this is not your country. You are not a citizen. So I advise you to return to your country which has advised you to return according to your own words. Go back home until all this situation is cleared up. Everybody have their own personal circumstances and yours are not more important for me than mine. Vice versa is also true.
