Perhaps we will all be required to turn on Location Services on our phones 24/7, and supply Thai Immigration with our Google passwords so they can track us?

i've stopped travelling around thailand because of this nonsense if they want my tourist dollars to be "spread around" as per TAT then they'll have to make it easier for me to do that, not harder.
till then, my fridge is stocked & pool is warm

27 minutes ago, Sjohno said:If you read further into the article an interesting comment is made (see below) and it appears that the new 800000 baht or 65000 baht/per month ruling for O-A visa has seen an exodus of 2400 expats from Phuket (or a halving of applications) to elsewhere or have they have made other visa arrangements. Apply that ratio across the country and it would be a significant amount of people with their lives uprooted! ????
“Col Kathathorn on Wednesday was unable to give a specific number of foreigners staying in Phuket on an O-A visa.
However, he did confirm that Phuket Immigration from January through December last year issued extensions to stay to 4,909 foreigners staying in Phuket on some form of Non-Immigrant O type visa.
From January to July this year, Phuket Immigration issued extensions to stay to 2,422 persons staying in Phuket on a form of Non-immigrant O type visa.”
the 2422 persons is for half year so assuming that ratio continues that puts it at 4844 or down less than 100

If you don’t have funds to take complete care of yourself then don’t travel!!
to anyone on this forum who uses this story as a platform to trash Thailand and Thai law you can go back to your country of origin too.
its a good point and well articulated but i think i'll disagree with your last statement and just head to vietnam with the other 15.5 million or so tourists this year.
i'll take my family and credit cards too.

And yet as it become more and more difficult to play by the rules, we are consistently reminded by our fellow TV members that using agents is "hassle free" and no need to worry about pesky little issues like money in the bank or income letters.
Perhaps they should turn a critical eye on their own IOs. Well, when pork takes wing.no-one would be in this situation (new rules nightmares) if immigration had cleaned their own house in the first place, but as i said in my last post it's not gonna happen. vested interests, the thai way of always targetting the demand rather than the supply and the fact that the agents must be paying someone on the inside or it couldn't happen!

no chance they will find anything wrong.. the fox is guarding the hen house
more chance of finding prostitution in pattaya, a few may be hung out to dry but nothing of substance will happen

Tourism can go down. They will just further raise prices, as food, normal massages and many things got more expensive here without considering the THB. I just do not get the logic. Less demand, prices rise.
did you read the OP?
prices are going down! price wars between hotels
QuoteBoth small and large size hotels were struggling to stay afloat with a price war being waged to attract what tourists there are - rooms are being offered at 30-40% less than normal, she said.

Marketing manager at the Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel Watcharaporn Jongphaophan confirmed the bad news saying that bookings were 30% down and that rooms previously priced at 1,400 baht were now offered for 900 baht.
There is also a group tour package for 9 rooms for 8,888 baht, she said.
lol someone needs maths lessons..
i'll take the 9 rooms at 900 baht each please, that being 8100 not 8888!!

And that's where they will recommend others to go.
and in a world connected as it is via social media EVERYBODY gets to hear about it and fast.
vietnam is going viral
even expats who live HERE are now taking their holidays there instead of phuket and the southern islands

And start in with a whole litany of law (half of it is made up on the spot), my rights as a Thai resident, my expertise with social media, blah, blah, blah. You do not like it, arrest me, and take me to jail! I want to have a word with your captain. Or the mayor, whom I know. Or I might even talk to Prayuth. They always back down. They get scared and confused. I am not nasty with them. Just very firm. They are looking for an easy mark. They do not expect pushback, and are always surprised by it. All of these guys are basically franchisees, and I do not buy into their level of corruption. Sometimes I offer them 100 baht. Not often. The cops here and immigration are the last people in the world I am afraid of. They need to see more pushback. Thais are afraid to do so. But, I notice a bit of deference to foreigners, and I take full advantage of that!
i agree, i do the same, and never had any ill consequences or ever been conned. the trick is to lean in, be confident and firm but NOT angry.
they are looking for easy marks, be one and pay or not and walk away with a smile.
thai baiting is a personal joy of mine, got to get those little victories where ya can! ????

the baht is only half the (financial) problem - domestic inflation has been on a tear these last 5 years regardless of what official inflation numbers suggest.
even earning in baht things are getting damn expensive and the locals are suffering much more than us expats

53 minutes ago, Bullie said:Tourists are opportunistic and go where they get the biggest bang for their money. This, due to a bad exchange rate and inflated prices (not in the least by the ladies of the night) for practically everything tourists enjoy has not been the case in Thailand for several years now. Practically all surrounding countries now offer more or less the same, but often still more authentic and cheaper experience.
We've seen the same ting happening in Europe: first Italy, then Spain, Greece and Turkey respectively.
Nothing new under the sun.
i must have read 10 articles this year in the mainstream media (guardian, new york times, etc) singing the virtues of vietnam for the young, backpackers, nomads, the adventurous. before it was all thailand, thailand, thailand.. now they don't mention here at all or if they do (rare) its as a not friendly country.
so i'm not surprised, its not only the young that read these articles, thailand is just not "cool" anymore.
they've lost their mojo and this is echoed by the reports i've had this year from my friends in and visiting vietnam
one final word they will be toast when the islands along myanmmars west coast open up

No chance. A completely doped up sport. Lance not so strong tainted the sport and it will never be the same. Maybe those that like this type of cheat plagued sport do not mind cheating and getting unfair advantages in others also.
actually the reason the racing is so good this year (and the last 2) is because, post EPO and TUE's, the field of riders is much closer now and they now have bad days too.
finally the best riders are winning not the ones with the best "doctors"
negativity aside.. loving it this year, can't wait for the alps

yep, some guy out in the country near me has got a beautiful 2 rai plot with 2 villas on it and lovely gardens.
now they are building what looks like a giant factory next to it. i totally feel for the guy, worst nightmare, it runs the length of his property and is only 1 meter from his wall. got to be 8 meters tall. and as if to rub the salt in.. the carpark is on the other side, no consideration at all ????
Is the closure of your favorite bar or restaurant imminent?
