Sorry to be the bearer of bad news: AirBNB has been illegal for a long time already. But so has driving on the sidewalks, driving against traffic, running through red lights, driving on the hard shoulder, buying alcohol on religious holidays, buying alcohol near educational institutions, paying bribes, accepting bribes, and the list goes on and on.

The point is: Whether something is illegal is of no consequence in Thailand - if the RTP isn't enforcing a law, you basically have permission to do it. The fact that you assumed that AirBNB was legal (due to the thousands of publicly available rentals in Thailand) proves the point nicely.

airbnb is not illegal, short term lets are, airbnb does longer lets too but it is up to the user to set minimum days stay (and obviously abuse thai laws if they feel inclined)

anyways looks like all this is mute anyway the 'hotel' in question is still taking bookings so i assume they were doing nothing wrong :whistling:

carry on nothing to see here

Hmmm, a disgruntled neighbour known to have put a professionally produced poster on BJ's car that said something like "I'd rather have BJ as a neighbour than a Prime minister" (seen elsewhere this morning) and who alledgedly went as far as to turn this into Fred and Rose?

I suspect Joe Public will see this for what it is; A desperate attempt by remain that only usually works in UK's draconian family courts.

you do know the other guy (Hunt) is a brexiteer too? in fact he was quotes yesterday as saying:

    Quote

Hunt used the hustings to harden his position on no-deal saying he would “100%” leave the EU at the end of October with no deal if he believed the EU was not willing to compromise.

thats the same policy stance as Boris.. Negotiate or No Deal

so, are you actually saying there is a remainer plot to get Boris ruled out so the other brexiter can force a no deal too?

do you realize how idiotic that sounds??!

maybe Hunt will throw his toys out of his pram next and we'll have no leader ????‍♀️

i'd say Boris is doing his best to throw this, without ruining his career, because he doesn't want the poison chalice. either that or he really is a buffoon lol

Authorities are also reportedly planning amendments of the Hotel Act to bring room-sharing platforms like Airbnb under a legislative framework. Currently the act allows accommodation offerings with less than four rooms to operate without a hotel licence.

so smaller properties have 90 days to comply with regulations that haven't even been amended yet?

    ????

    Thanks Joe.

I'm retired and I only want to come to Pattaya two or three times a year and stay for 2 or 3 months each time.

    Any suggestions?

It's unbelievable what they want us to do to spend a bit time and often a considerable amount of money in their country. I usually spend 4 - 5,000 GBPs (150K - 190K baht in the three months that I'm there. That's not including the Thai Airways flight.

Many blokes spend more than that.

I remember when they used to welcome us with open arms.

ah but you see we are now competing with mass tourism and these 'new tourists' spend approximately 50,000 baht per person (according to the figures released yesterday) but unlike you and me they'll go home after a few days so while we are gobbling up all the resources for our 3 month stays they can cram 20 or 30 of them through in the same time frame.

all of the upside, none of the mongering.

    game over.

  6. good article on the damage being done to european cities by airbnb

    tl/dr:

    • in some cities more than half of available rentals are now airbnb
    • rental rates for long terms rising by as much as 40%
    • housing stock being depleted for residents
    • 60K listings in paris alone

same or similar starting to happen here in hua hin for sure

In my country in the Schengen area, once you marry your family is protected. My embassy wanted 1234 things to be verified before giving Thai gf a short visa. After being with her for multiple years and then marrying, she gets no questions asked, does not need to pay any visa fee as she is married, and gets a multiple year visa without questions asked. She can move to my country by just going with me to the police station and saying she stays here with me.

If you are married in Thailand for 1,5,10 or 15 years, you still have to play their little timewasting immigration game. I think our system is much more friendly, don't you?

    i do!

by the way which is your country?
