As someone who walks a lot, that is great news.
agree, walking on samui should be reclassified as an extreme sport

i've been out the last 2 nights (friday and saturday) and didn't see ONE single policeman anywhere. not on bintabaht area, 88/94/102 even soi 6/7 bars. not even outside the police station. pathetic.
just a photoshoot to pacify the recently falling number of bangkok tourists i'm afraid

could look so nice with a promenade from pier to chinese temple.. won't be holding my breath though
-
i don't get it, where the **** are they all then?
-
i'd say the beach promenade area is a bigger problem - still full of hookers walking around at 6-7am mixing with lots of families and kids.
maybe clean that area up and leaver the (obviously) red light zones to themselves

well if immigration really feels the need to waste their time visiting my house then so be it.. but my wife will have 1205 on speed dial in case of any "extra requests"

Corruption is only possible because people are willing to pay to obtain something they are not entitled too.
Get rid of the element that creates the corruption to start with and it's problem solved.
i wish it was that simple, all too often bribes are requested for doing their job as well in the form of 'guaranteed acceptance', 'express service' etc..
it's the mug expats who pay these bribes, even though their documents are in order, who encourage the practice (and make life harder for the honest expats out there)

ah such a heart warming story.. as for the rest of us it's pay up or face the consequences

"555...yeah, ok." Same with a lot of posts on TV, add little value, infer a deeper knowledge and understanding (trust me you're wrong, I know better, but I'll keep the detail light so as not to get caught out), but the substance? Time to hit the BS button. Pfffft.
Your limited knowledge of Phuket's right up there with your limited knowledge of Chiang Mai.
please enlighten us, oh wise one..

thank you for your self promotion - do you have coupon too?

Next thing you will see is a law that restricts farang from selling their own condo or house without a work permit.
The joy of renting .....

Yeah whatever.in Thailand what goes up never comes down.
Except of course, military helicopters.

i'll be happy to fill it in when they provide me with the exact penal code law and number i will be breaking by giving false info

OP, where are you now?
Hua Hin
i lived on Samui for a while and really enjoyed it, many younger families around and plenty of under-50 expats, however pledging our future to an island wasn't appealing for us so we moved to the mainland.
Hua Hin, whilst a lovely place with lovely people is however kind of like moving in with our parents (no offence to the retirees, it just is as it is!), there just seems to be few people around who are our age and place in life.

thanks for all the responses i have what i need

I think if you are planning a move, surely you should take the time and visit - - that should tell you more than enough.
i've visited many times but its difficult to judge who is a tourist or an expat from a passing glance hence asking some locals
anyways, thanks for all the responses i think i have enough infomation to justify a longer visit

Hi,
i was thinking of moving up to chiang mai or to pattaya and am trying to find details of the demographics of expats living and working in the city and surrounding areas. i have a young family and we are in our late 30s, early 40s and we'd be looking to move outside the city but still within reasonable distance of schools
in terms of pattaya would i find many 30-50 year olds living in the area? i'm coming from hua hin and here its mainly retiree and its a bit quiet for us
thanks for your help,
George
