Chonburi farmer shot multiple times at his salt field
Gold Star replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Another reason to legalize pot, which would displace the Yaba drug trade. At worst, friends might get out of their hammocks to squabble over the last slice of pizza. -

Thai government launches national efforts to stem water pollution
Gold Star replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
In Satun, they could get many tonnes of it without a boat, and without even getting their feet wet. The local muslim villages toss their trash and toilets dump directly into the sea under their dwellings. All not far from pristine beaches and islands like Koh Lipe. Sad. -
That's a good effort, but... What I find is that in many places and towns here that try to make roads 'safer' by painting lines, and the whole road red, and place rumble strips in so many locations, is that they get too carried away and putting them literally everywhere, and a driver becomes sensory numb to them like driving through Las Vegas. When they approach real important hazard like a crosswalk zebra crossing, they already have them tuned out and ignored.

Yes, it would be a blockbuster, along the likes of 'The Serpent'. A true story, and a fantastic series, masterfully set in 70's Thailand. Anyone seen it?

Thailand’s digital minister in hospital for COVID-19 treatment
Gold Star replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I wonder if he is also facing a 2 week detainment in an expensive locked dirty hospital room for 2 weeks, no internet, cold food, and no visitors at his expense, pleading with the staff to do a PCR test in hopes of eventually seeing the outside world again, never to return. -

Cabinet approves plans to attract long-stay foreigners to Thailand
Gold Star replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
No, it's simple. Thais are not allowed to own land in China, so Chinese shouldn't be able to own land in Thailand. -
The air has been very clean up north here in Chiang Rai so far, with excellent visibility allowing yo to see the spectacular views from the mountaintops. Seasonal burning in Myanmar (the main source of our smoke) and Thailand has been delayed due to wetter conditions, and the NASA fire map compared to last year shows it. Here is the NASA site link: https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#t:adv;d:2021-01-16..2021-01-17;l:noaa20-viirs,viirs,modis_a,modis_t,countries;@99.0,19.4,8z Last year vs this year:

Cabinet approves plans to attract long-stay foreigners to Thailand
Gold Star replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
If only they would make life easier for ALL long term residents here, it would attract the wealthy and professionals. In order to have anyone want to move here, they need to: -change property ownership rules to allow land ownership, even small plots -get rid of useless 90 day reporting -stop idiotic visa paperwork and evidence of foreign transfers for 800k, -dual pricing -health insurance requirements for the uninsurable capable of self insuring -keep stable government policies to allow investment in business or properties without high degrees of risk -treat foreigners the same as Thais are treated in foreign countries- 176 replies

Increasing demand for crocodile meat helping croc raising farmers
Gold Star replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The farms north of Pattaya in Chonburi feed them with chicken carcasses (see photo). 10,000 to 20,000 crocs in a farm. A dangerous job as many workers have been bitten. Once they get big enough, they are pulled from the ponds and them placed into the individual pens to fatten them up and get bigger. They can push off with their powerful tail, and the jaws can reach up higher than the 6' concrete walls. They look docile, but they are fast, and once my buddy was inches away from getting his face bit off while looking into a pen. He won't do that anymore.
