  1. It would help by announcing the end of the policy of forcing people to take Sinovac, and be offered a vaccine of their choice. Everyone wants to be able to go to Switzerland, you know...
  2. Porn and sex toys are illegal, because sex is bad and immoral and goes against Thai culture. But here's some free IUDs for any girls that want them under 20. So, the gogo bars are opening again soon? There are more flip flops in government policy than on a Thai beach.
  3. Ahhh, another bite of unexpected consequences of choosing Sinovac as the main vaccine, that so many have refused in the first place. Enough time has now passed for people to see that it is the least effective against delta, and learn they can live without it. Unfortunately, they carry that belief forward to not want to get the other vaccines that actually work to stop infections in the first place. Once their mind is made up, it is tough to change after the fact. Even once they run out of Sinovac and finally start to offer others as the first jab, it will be hard to bring people forward. This does not bode well for the overall acceptance of getting the boosters we will no doubt require soon.
  4. There is not much they can do, other than offer a temporary subsidy. The price of a barrel of oil is merely at average levels over the last 30 years when adjusted for inflation. Global capital investment in oil production has been driven down to levels of approximately 65% of what is needed merely to keep up our worldwide demand of 100 million barrels per day, which will really start to take effect 5 years after sue to the average lead time of projects. We have the anti oil movement to thank for this, as any transition to renewables will be much to slow to make up the difference. The mass hysteria driving the intended pace of implementation is beyond any feasible level on a global scale. As a result, grid blackouts and energy shortages will drive up commodity prices as industries shut down, and create energy shortfalls which will ironically be made up for by underdeveloped nations burning more coal. As we look forward into the future, OPEC+ is close to being out of spare capacity while demand from non OECD countries is increasing, and the trajectory of oil prices can only go up from here. This presents once in a lifetime opportunities right now to invest in shunned oil exploration and production companies, as they are trading at severely low multiples to the free cash flow they generate, even with $60/bbl oil.
  5. Only 20 signatures? They could have got hundreds more from a clipboard hanging in any 7-11 in Pattaya.
  6. Escaped a wildlife trafficker, only to be caught again? Hope she manages to escape once more back into the jungle and stay hidden.
  7. It is simply a cylindrical chunk of salt, like a rock. No need.
  8. For less than 100 baht delivered, I tried these alum salt sticks after hearing about it here by some here in another comment section. Thanks for the tip. They work great! I have been using it for 5 months now daily, and I can hardly see any wear on it. It is not sticky at all, there is no smell, no skin irritation, and you really do not know it is there. Put it on while the skin is still wet. It is a solid block of heavy salt. I used all kinds of sticks, dry, wet, ball, spray, gel, and they all protected me for a few hours, then got smelly again. I even did a test, one side salt, other side normal deodorant and the salt wins every time. You get 3 in a pack, and I think it will last me the rest of my life. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i584818976-s1082142323.html?urlFlag=true&mp=1&spm=spm%3Da2o4m.order_details.item_title.1
  9. Strange that the Thai Baht has strengthened in the last 6 weeks or so. Perhaps now it is due for a pullback with this new data print.
  10. They should recognize a lot of expats supporting their families and extended families here have been made poorer as well. We play an important part here in Thailand by providing social support to a large portion of the population with food, housing, education, that might otherwise cost the state. What we don't need are more restrictions, insurance requirements, and additional costs and barriers to staying here that may make it too difficult, and force some of us to leave.
  11. 'They quoted IT whizz and Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Thanee Saengrat as saying that 30,538 tourists had come to Thailand. In another report after a later House of Representatives debate a Ministry of Health aide said that just 24,000 had entered the country. ' So 30538 came, but only 24000 were able to enter. This gives the impression the rest were unsuccessful for various reasons, ended up in quarantine or sent home.
  12. I think most would rather take the overflight somewhere else than to risk landing here now. Wait until Thailand is actually open without the closures, restrictions, delays, insurance, PCR quarantine jail risk, and all the other hurdles remaining for international tourism. Perhaps they will figure it out and be ready in a year from now.
  13. Tragic loss of a family. With the lack of details, one can't say if 5 on the bike was THE main cause. I have survived been run over by an idiot in a truck before, and in that instance it would not have mattered if I was alone, or had 10 people on it. Of course, having even one passenger reduces the maneuverability and control to react quickly in emergency situations, and increases the chances of injuries in an accident as there are more eggs in one basket. You would think that there would be many more accidents with multiple passengers than what is reported. Perhaps it is that although I see bikes with more than 2 people very often, they are never being driven in an unsafe manner, as they have always been slower and way more cautious and attentive, hugging the side of the road as traffic passes by. It would be interesting to see the detailed accident statistics regarding multiple passenger motorcycles vs. single riders, considering the huge difference in not only speed, but the difference in cautious vs aggressive ways they are driven. When a jet crashes, it makes news implying it is very dangerous, but when comparing the safety of travelling by plane vs. autos, the reality proves otherwise. Here's some Asian overloaded bikes. 9 up is pushing it...
  14. Yes, I bought a bunch of it in the $30's, sold all last month as I think it has had its day.
  15. I'm not going to miss my Thai Paypal account. Its shortcomings made it almost useless for me. I still use my Canadian Paypal though. Although WISE from Canada is the least expensive option I have found overall, it has it's limitations. I'm forced to use the higher 'direct debit' transfer fee option as the cheaper 'bill payment' option is not recognized by Canadian banks. It has an average 2 day duration for transfers, and is hindered by a maximum CDN$9500 transfer limit. Since it uses partner banks, it always arrives for me as a local bank transfer no matter how you tag it, not as an international transfer for those requiring to prove source of funds. However I am not pleased by the government's meddling, as anytime our options are restricted it makes it tougher living here, as I am feeling the noose keep tightening around the neck of us expats. The same BS happened as they meddled with Lazada payments, and put restrictions on use of the Lazada wallet in your account. I want to move a lot more money over here, and buy some nice property, but I am not liking the direction the idiots in government are taking this country, along with inane reporting requirements for banking and fund sources for immigration pension, and property. It is causing me take a step back and pause to see what happens next, and try to figure out which is the next shoe to drop.
  16. Legs. That is all that needs to be kept open to revive the economy, along with the bars they can be found in.
  17. I guess it is still OK to launch floating incendiary devices into the night sky, potentially starting fires and terrible devastation for someone else, in the hope of bringing us our own good luck.
  18. But it tastes much better when it has been on the footpaths, the wrong way down roads against traffic, cut in front of others, and through red lights.
  19. Excellent timing for you then. I found this in some presentation. Perhaps you would know more about this map from the power company than I do? If not, then it must be wrong, and from an older proposal?
  20. Glad I had a chance to take the boat and see the Mekong river in Laos before it turns into a lake, flooding the communities of Pak Beng, and drowning Luang Probang.
  21. Getting in and out of Thailand is too risky at this time. Better off taking a holiday in Afghanistan.
  22. You must be living in a temple. Most of the discrimination involves or is permitted by the government or police. Man, where should I start? Anutin blaming the pandemic spread on 'dirty falangs'. No vaccines available for falangs, only Thai's early on. My Thai friend that looks like a foreigner must pay foreigner pricing at parks etc. even though he has his ID card and clearly is a Thai. Yes, dual pricing IS discrimination. Insurance rates higher. Legal matters rarely favour the foreigner. Accidents are most often blamed on the foreigner, even though they are clearly not guilty. If you were not in this country, he would not have hit you and the accident would not have happened. Walk away from every altercation involving a Thai as you will soon have 10 other Thai's kicking the <deleted> out of you. Police stop you for infractions made up on the spot, while Thai's speed by 3 up, no helmets, or licences. Alcohol and drug urine tests are most often given to falangs, while Thais walk. In most all instances involving contracts, purchases, or legal things, the foreigner is at a disadvantage, and most likely to be a mark in a scam. My friend with rentals now has no income from his tenants, as his agent kept the money, and has no recourse, as it is the falang that can bear the loss. I could go on and on and on, as well as others that can add their stories.....
  23. First timers are the least able to navigate all the hurdles and obstacles they place in the way of getting here. It is painful enough for seasoned travellers to Thailand to endure.
  24. 'Thanakorn said people can keep abreast of the water situation in Bangkok through the website https://dds.bangkok.go.th/ ' Don't bother to follow the link, it is just maps. Not a kept Bangkok wet breast in sight.
