A lot of people in Thailand don't have air con. Locals I'm talking about. Regardless you are not at home all the time: A Thai man was found dead in front of a coffin shop in Kanchanaburi. It is believed he died from the extreme heat of 40 degrees Celsius https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thai-man-found-dead-in-front-of-coffin-shop-due-to-extreme-heat

Personally for the 17 - 18 years I've lived here, never felt so hot for such a long period. I normally look forward to the rains at Songkran! The issue for Phuket is water, many areas are now limiting supply. We have our own deep well but even that is taking far longer to fill up the tank. That and the huge electric bill for air con. Damn this El Nino! Temp was on the steady rise anyway over the years: https://climateknowledgeportal.worldbank.org/country/thailand/climate-data-historical

Supreme Court protects access to abortion pill

No surprise there, Clarence Thomas was one of two judges who publicly dissented. -
Not quite as simple as that, the only states that have "Stand your ground Law" are: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and West Virginia Wyoming. States such as New York state, where Ms Gillis was shot as the car she was in pulled into the wrong driveway, does not have a stand your ground law, and imposes a broad duty to retreat. Statistics show that states with stand your ground laws have seen a rise in homicides by 10% or higher. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65282084 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand-your-ground_law

Make of it what you will but despite Trumps attempts to dismiss the cases the judge was having none of it so we now have the trial "Donald Trump called the writer E Jean Carroll a “nut job” in video testimony last year and falsely claimed she had enjoyed being sexually assaulted – prompting her lawyer to ask if he was admitting he had raped her, according to freshly unsealed testimony. The New York court on Friday also rejected as “absurd” Trump’s attempt to have dismissed the two lawsuits against him by Carroll, alleging rape and libel. An April trial is planned." https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jan/14/donald-trump-e-jean-carroll-lawsuit-nut-job -

Washington set to become 10th state to ban assault weapons sales
Bkk Brian replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
Well it formed part of my post context, that using the reason for AR-15's for hunting is a deflection from what the majority of people actually buy them for and why they are being banned in Washington. But if you do want to know the link is on the first page. -

Yet you missed that majority don't own them for hunting, links already supplied in this topic. -

Nowhere to hunt in Washington. The majority of AR-15 owners don't have them for hunting anyway. -

Fox News settles Dominion defamation case for $787.5m
Bkk Brian replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
This is unverified. Nobody has seen or had access to all the questions from YouGov. Yet the description gives some basic clues that dishonesty and deception is still rife with Fox news and their statements that are then carried by other outlets. A mere look at the chart should give one pause. You’ll note that the numbers displayed add up to 148 percent You can’t make this stuff up. Read the fine print… Q1: which news sources do you follow Q2: *of those sources* which do you trust most… So all this actually shows is that Fox News viewers live in an information bubble. Fox News claims to be the ‘most trusted.’ Is it? More aptly, Fox is the outlet that the most people cite as being among their most trusted outlets. But on the whole, Americans have trusted it less than they trust plenty of others. But a mere look at the chart should give one pause. You’ll note that the numbers displayed add up to 148 percent. So this isn’t strictly about which one outlet is “most trusted.” The description of the data in the ad, in fact, shows that the pollster asked about media outlets people watch and then “which do you most trust for news? Check as many as apply.” So 41 is the percentage of people who cited Fox as being among however many outlets they cited as being their most trusted. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/04/17/fox-news-most-trusted-ad-poll/ Fox News Mocked For Ad Claiming It's The 'Most Trusted' TV News Network Fox News apparently decided to make a statement on the eve of its defamation suit with Dominion Voting Systems ― and it went to The New York Times to do it. On Monday, the network paid for a full-page ad in the paper declaring itself the most trusted TV network in news, citing stats based on a recent YouGov poll. HuffPost has reached out to YouGov for a full copy of the poll data, but in the meantime, it’s worth noting that evidence shows many of the network’s hosts and executives promoted false theories about supposed election fraud that they themselves did not believe ― so perhaps not all of that viewer trust is necessarily warranted. https://news.yahoo.com/fox-news-mocked-ad-claiming-175655544.html
