  1. Any kind of "near miss" is traumatic but from what you've said, it appears that you escaped physical injury which is a blessing.

That being said it seems strange to me that after 18 months of living in Chiang Mai you still don't understand the requirements for crossing a busy road. You said you had already waited 5 or 7 minutes, but rather than a wait a couple / few minutes more for a more opportune time to cross (because obviously your "small space in the traffic" was too small!). Nevertheless you still decided instead to cross the road "keeping visual focus on the traffic" coming towards you!

It beggars belief that you should have taken such a dangerous and stupid course of action. What was so important to you that you decided to put yourself and others at risk? Notwithstanding, you have zero sympathy for the driver of the vehicle (who might have also been shocked at your sudden appearance in the road). Are you so surprised that he drove on, probably thinking to himself another "crazy farang".

So yes, I'm glad you are uninjured, when it could have been so much worse. Personally, I think it's time for YOU to think carefully about being safety conscious both as a pedestrian and maybe as a driver and give due consideration to others.

We've had something like five internet providers in Chiang Mai and Sinet has been among the best.  They send SMS messages to my mobile number ahead of anticipated network outages. And those outages have been at night.  The speed remains fast.

"What the OP is experiencing sounds very strange and should be investigated".

I agree, but I'm puzzled as to why 1) he's waited for 2months and then 2) sought affirmation of his intentions from here (TV)?

Strange behaviour, after all It's not as though he needs permission from a moderator!

It's not the mall's problem that you don't own transport! Why don't you buy a car?

"Why don't you buy a car?"

You're joking, right? So accoridng to you, everyone who shops there has to own a car to do so?

It is exactly the mall's problem not least of all because it provides a way to encourage those potential shoppers / customers many of whom don't have their own transport. Also, in the scheme of things and considering the money already invested, it wouldn't be a terribly expensive.service to re-provide.

The OP, sounds like he has an axe to grind.

Not at all, you couldn't be more wrong...I guess you are making this unjstified comment because you have nothing else to offer.

  5. Only 6 months...that's approximately how long it took for the "new" owners of the Hangout to open its doors, peek at the outside world and rapidly close them again. Regretfully, I'm unsurprised at the latest development after having been there a couple of times.

Even after (or despite) the overt advertising of The Hangout by EvenStevens on this site, problems again surfaced quickly and as (it seems) usual, they were (as I see it) is two-fold:

    1) Location - The Hangout couldn't be situated in a worse place. There's virtually zero passing foot traffic and it's way out of town along the Hang Dong road. So most customers (predominately farangs) ,have to drive to get there. Also and contrary to expectations, the Kad Farang shopping mall and market customers ignored The Hangout almost entirely.

    2) Poor Management - Did they know what a business plan was? I can only believe that the management (whoever they were) must have been phenomenally inexperienced at running this sort of business. It doesn't take much to sell good, cold beer (you just order it from the suppliers) but the food was at best, unremarkable and more often than not, downright horrible. Equally poor and mundane was the level of service from the Thai waiting staff who seemed poorly trained and inattentive. The exception was the live music which was probably the best part of a Friday night visit. And why? Because muso's put 100% effort into what they're doing, all the time. Maybe that's a lesson for the next owners (if there are any).

Anyway, I take no pleasure in seeing (yet) another business fail in double quick time.

PS: I don't know where you are in CM but there's a place that sells foam etc. It's on the left, along the 118 going towards Doi Saket. It's signed in English and is before the Tesco Express, the 7/11, the small market and the footbridge over the road

  7. "She didn't want me to ask on here...."

Huh, some friend, you went against her wishes and asked anyway!

Maybe for a start she could visit the Writer's Club & Wine Bar - 50200, 141/6 Rachadamnoen Rd, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

Such an oblique reference makes your OP seem more than slightly odd. As far as I'm aware; although  there are strictly enforced defamation laws in some SE Asian countries, I can't see how the same law would apply if you were referencing another country's consul (for example, the UK, a Scandinavian country, or Australia), where transparency concerning the governmental processes is encouraged.
