  2. You might well need a neurosurgeon, but NOT for a hamstring injury. For a severe (avulsion) hamstring problem you might need to be referred to an orthopaedic specialist for a consultation who will advise you as to the most suitable course of treatment. From personal experience, I sincerely hope it's not an avulsion-type injury which is incredibly painful, but the recovery from surgery is a long, tedious and difficult process too.

    Good luck,

. Generally it seems golfers play faster here, but not sure if that is true.

Huh, wait until you get stuck behind a 5 or 6 ball of heavy gambling hi so Thai golfers...?and you can't play through because your caddy won't let you and anyway there's another large group in front of them!

On a brighter note here's the info for Royal Chiang Mai golf club who have a great 1500 baht (800 baht for Thai resident) promotion until the end of June - http://www.royalchiangmai.com/

Nothing was said to me about having to present the completed TM 30 when I do my next 90 day report next month

But isn't the completed, most up-to-date TM30 attached to a page in your passport, which makes it available to be seen by an IO every time you complete your 90 day report.

I never tried to do any business at the counter without passport.

So I am more surprised that a DL was accepted (which would not be for Thai citizens).

Could you really do withdraw or get new ATM card with PIN entry based on a Thai DL?

Yes, every month withdrawing circa 60k baht for the past five years and using my Thai driving licence as ID (of course, I also had my bank book too).

  6. Useful information...I was only in Kasikorn bank (Promenada branch) on Saturday and withdrew a reasonably large amount from my account using my driving licence as ID. At what branch did this occur?

Also, I wonder if they'll accept my passport details from the images on my phone? I was stopped at a police checkpoint earlier this year and asked for my passport, they were happy to take details from my phone and sent me on my way with a smile.

Seems to be standard procedure for extensions of stay based on marriage at least for the first extension.

A friend of mine just did such an extension and eas visited. They very kindly gave advance notice and the couple had to stay home from work that day.

There have been some recent cases of sham marriages /fake claims of marriage by people seeking to stay in Thailand. So the frequency of such visits may increase as imm offices have been asked to be more vigilant. Nothing to be concerned about, just a routine verification .

Thank you, but as I said earlier my extension of stay has always been on a retirement visa and I have been legally married for 5 years, so there's no "extension of stay based on marriage".

    Plausible.

Unfortunately there are just too many foreigners on fictitious marriage.

    No need to feel offended/uncomfortable.

Such is not limited to Thailand and was even inspiration for movies.

And please no surprise from the topic starter (not on marriage extension?)

Thank you very much for your response(s) and kind words...I've been living in Thailand for 7 years now (retirement visa) and happily married for 5 years.

  9. I was visited at home (I live in Doi Saket), this afternoon by a Thai police motorbike patrol officer. He knew my name and I was asked by him to confirm that I lived at this address (which I did). He then took 2 photos of me and a photo of the house number. He was polite and cheerful and said he was collecting this information “for immigration” and showed me his phone which had a note on it asking me to confirm that I would be at home during the week.

I have no reason to doubt that this was a policeman carrying out his duty, but when I told my (Thai) wife what had happened she was concerned that it might have been a fake policeman. I wasn’t asked for money and I’m not even sure whether or not there might be a return visit.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

    Regards,

    Joe

I will appreciate it if you can list exactly which documents you presented to the official.

I know these are mentioned in various places but I would like to know from someone with recent first hand experience.

    Sure, here you go:

    1) Completed application form for Certificate of Residence

    2) Actual Passport

    3) Copies of these pages in the passport - Main photo page, Visa page, TM6 departure card (all photocopies must be signed)

    4) Photocopy of your TM30 form (photocopy must be signed)

    5) Copy of the TM6 (photocopy must be signed)

    6) 2 passport photos against a blue background (sign the back of the photographs)

    7) Photocopy of one of either; a lease agreement; blue/yellow house book; letter from landlord

    Hope this helps,

  11. Regarding a Residency Certificate -

I'm not really interested in using an agent and have a couple of weeks in hand before I need to renew my driving licence.

On enquiring where I should go a helpful officer told me to go to the small Immigration office on the 2nd floor (the one that deals with TM30's). When I arrived there I was told I was too late for Residency Certificate and to come back tomorrow. Does anyone know what time I should get there and how long I should expect to wait?

    Regards,

  12. This woman makes everything and to a very high standard (as evidenced by other recommendations on TV)

    Her shop details are:

    Phim Little Dress

    55/5 Moo 14

    Wat Umong

    Soi 4 Suthep Road

    Chiang Mai

    550000

    Tel: 0884 140528

    https://www.facebook.com/phimlittledressshop/?fref=ts

As you come into Moo 14, follow the road, and as it bends to the right slightly, there is a 7-11 on your left. On the opposite side of the road, there is a beauty salon or hairdressers.  Look past it and you will see Phim's sign.

I know we are all used to the "grammar police" on this Forum but it looks like we now have to look out for the "editor/editing police as well".

    For "Shoeless Joe";

As you were able to comprehend the post why did you feel a need for an edited/précis?  Are the rest of us mere mortals not capable of extracting the relevant information ourselves.  I believe you are doing the OP a major disservice with your highhanded, so called, reposted  "edit".

For "Scottie John" and others - I was just trying to be helpful to the OP, what's your excuse?

Anyway my apologies, I didn't realise y'all were so sensitive and that you could be so easily offended.

  14. Hi there, I've read and reconfigured your somewhat disjointed post (below) and I think it might not be a scam but merely a Thai handyman seeing an opportunity to pass on some work to friends or relatives and earning a "commission". The fact that you soon came to realise that they were not plumbers and asked them to leave, should be enough for you to deny them access again. It may well be your responsibility to ensure that remedial works are undertaken by a competent tradesmen. It might be a good idea not to pass on their phone numbers or contact details, but it might also be that your wife thinks she might lose face (with the condo handyman) as she might appear to be rejecting his recommendation. I'd ignore it all and look for a decent, competent tradesman.

    Regards,

    Joe

"Good day folks, yesterday I was getting ready to go out when there was a knock at the door. My wife answered and after five mins came and explained that it was our handyman who does the odd jobs in our condo building and that he wanted the phone number of the ''plumber'' we used last year; as the results of his '' work'' was affecting all the condo's in our building. This person who was at our condo for about an hour last year, was no more a plumber than I am but he was recommended to the wife by another person who works in our building, (so I could not understand why they asked us?)

By this time my wife wanted me to phone the owner of our condo. I explained to her that as far as I was concerned all this was nothing to do with the owner or us and was more of an issue with the Thai who works in the building and the '' plumbers'' (sorry, the couple of Thai people who said they were plumbers), but they did not know that water runs downhill not up hill. They did have some tools but I asked them to leave as soon as I realised how inept theybility to  s your responsi were. I hear now, they are coming back to fix whatever they have done, but the wife is adamant that it is up to us to get it fixed. But she forgets that when she told me she had a number of a plumber that was recommended by the people who work at our condo, I thought it was the condo management. But it appears she asked the old fella who replaces lightbulbs and such and who has a brother who is out of work. Not certain who is at fault but  a few friends I have spoken to seem to think it is a scam."

I have seen dairy products past the sell-by date in several stores here, but in all fairness, I've seen that in the U.S. from time-to-time.  Not often, but it happens.  I don't think it's deliberate, but an oversight that is corrected when brought to the attention of the staff.

And so we slide into even more obscure posts! Because really, what does this have to do with the 1200 bhat price for a songthaew ride to Doi Suthep????
