Related to this, after a hotel visit in BKK, where they report your stay, are you required to file another TM30 when I return 'home' to long time residence, where 90 day reports are made?   hits me next week & word is that people are getting fined.

What I´ve got as answer from Immigration is that a stay at hotel is a temporary stay that the hotel report when you check in as well as when you check out. What they said was that when your hotel report ends, that makes your own latest TM30 report automatically active again as long as you didn´t leave the country.

  2. I guess this was a question if it was possible to rent a condo for 3 month without a visa?

Answer: Yes, but you will need a valid visa or exempt entry for living in it. In that case it´s always less hassle with a visa in your passport.

Regarding the limit or staying in Thailand, has npthing to do with the amount of days. It can be 30, 60, 90, 180 or a year. Totally irrelevant. Some people still manage to stay long time on exempt entry with one 30 days at the time, while some people with visas in their passports get problem when entering.

The best advice is still to apply for the tourist visa that gives you the longest time for staying in Thailand that you qualify for, or a Non-O if you in any kind of way qualify for one of those.

A foreigner staying at a hotel does not have to submit the form TM.30. The hotel must notify his arrival to the immigration office.

IFAIK, the TM30 have no connection to a 90 day report. However, I can be wrong or maybe you mean something different?

    then  my question still remains.

As said, if immigration accepts your 90 day report, you would have no problem with having a residence certificate in my opinion. Some random offices have told that they not issue them, though.

The 90 dya report is something you have to do if you live on a 1 year extension in Thailand. If you have a non-o multiple entry or METV, you will leave the country one time every 60 or 90 day instead. All other visas for staying legally in Thailand includes a visit to immigration or that you apply for a new visa within the same time frame.

What I believe is that if you life on tourist visa in Thailand, and staying in hotel with paying day by day, it will leave it much up to the discretion of the immigration officer. Some might give it to you, while other see a chance to point out that you do not qualify.

1200B for 8 litres was the old price at Makro, until a few months ago when the new prices started coming in. Those 8 litre boxes were originally exclusive to Makro and had Makro printed on them, though someone said that they saw similar boxes in BigC or somewhere later on. All gone now though, as far as I know, and replaced by the much smaller boxes to avoid the price sticker shock.

Yeah, yeah! All good. It was just little irritating me that tried to throw a sinister joke. I meant that Mont Claire, could hardly represent anything a person would like the stick under the label wine.

Guess I was hiding my evil intentions soo good, that you just couldn´t find them.

I have always believed that all of us given the choice would rather have a great life back in one's own land, if money was no object and had family etc.

What person in their own country who had everything a man needed and was happy with his lot woke up one morning and thought 'I think I'll move to Thailand'?

Maybe one that do not sell all, and wants to have some experience in their life. Can also be one that is so happy with his loot, that he realize that he have buildt the possibility to do what he want in life. Many people live happy alone, without family. Later they realize after a vacation that they like asian woman and wants to marry and take care of one for make their life complete. That´s only three reasons. Can find more, but I guess you got the point.

Haha. That actually took a bit longer than expected. Nobody up's sticks gives up everything at home if they are happy with everything and absconds to Thailand. End of chat.

Read above. Why would you need to give up everything? Bad choice and personal experience?

  6. As you already state, she stamp you in for 60 days, so that is how long you can stay for now. Staying on too many tourist visas for long time is a well known problem. If I were you I would take her advice and consider a long stay visa. That is if you will qualify for them, though. If not I guess you will have to take your chances from TV to TV. It might work or it might not work.

Can you show us the link to that specific reference in the Thai Revenue regs?  Or is this your conclusion because they do not currently do it.......

If they did not then there would be no need of any mention in the UK DTA?

Seems to me like you do not need a link. As the poster state, Thailand do not tax retirement income. Then you say that they do not currently do???

That must then mean they do not tax retirement income at present time, which means they do not tax retirement income, right?

Who can ever have the knowledge of what´s going to happen next year or in the future in this country. I guess we have to set for what we know today.

You'll find the city girls prettier than their up country counterpart, city girls who frequented places of entertainment are better groomed and up to date on fashion while those of the rest of the country are more of the a la natural like no makeup or fancy clothing, but again, depends on one taste in women...

How can you even consider measuring beauty by the way of dressing and how much or how good make-up there is on the face. That´s not real! You know that, right?

  9. Sounds to me that you can go and try an application for extension, but that one will be denied. That will result in 7 days to leave the country.
Another option would be to go over a border and back again for getting a visa exempt for probably 30 days, depending on which country your passport is issued in.

However, that´s what I have read before if I do not mix things up. I am sure a more professional person will come along soon, and either comfirm what I wrote or give you the right info.

Thanks for this. So can anyone answer my question please?
What is the monthly cost of running a small company?

Just estimated. If you want to work in your own company, you will need to employ 4 thai nationals. Then you can get a WP.

That is going to cost you about a minimum of 60K baht per month. (Information from lawyer this year)

In that your own salury is not included, and for getting your WP it will range between 30-60K per month.

I would say, anything between 100K-120K per month, but it´s just a quick estimation.

There is also going to be ways around some of these things, so you can lower the costs. Not recommended, though. In that case you most surely will break the law in some way.

I agree with you too, I mean the US does not check a thing so it might be a crime... but that is not important at all if there is no real enforcement (no further checking). So even though it there is a penalty its a non issue as there are no checks. If immigration checks they wont notify the US goverment about the breach of the laws, just refuse the extension. So its a relative safe way to cheat.

Thanks! Here is the deal. That the US/Embassy do not check is not a crime according to the US laws. They are not obligated to check that the information they comfirm is actually true and can be proven. The only thing they do is put their stamp to it. The US citizen is still the one that is solely resposible for the information. Therefore he can actually be charged by his own embassy and country for providing false information to be stamped by the embassy.

The problem here is also that if Immigration would like to check if the information on the created income letter is true or false, the US laws will put a stop to that. They do not have access or the authority to make such a request of information. Therefore their only chance to have a slight possibility to check if the information provided in the income letter is true, is to ask for bank statement to act as proof of the given amount. Anyhow, I will suspect that it all leads to nothing, due to that the bankstatement will also be possible to falsify, and after only get it stamped by the US embassy.

I think you might find that there are not all that many people who "lie" as your post states. I find your claim an exaggeration with no proof to back it up.

If you have had to show the proof once to get one then it should not be that hard to show it one more time when you apply for an extension.

Actually, I this case I must agree with glegolo. Only around where I stay, there is actually about 3-4 persons I know well. I also know that they do not have the means for living in Thailand on their respective retirement extensions if push comes to show. That is about 10-12% of all the foreigners that live permantently in the same area.

Ok, if that can be considered much or not it´s of course an individual judgement. Not saying that you are wrong, it can be just around here it is an over represented group.

  13. I guess the most easy thing is for everybody to prepare for beeing future-proof. Checklist regarding money below:

    • Income letter if needed
    • Clear bankstatements showing the hard proof

This has been long coming. Everybody knows that, and there is no reason to act surprised. The rules clearly state the amount you are required to have yearly or recieve monthly to be able to live on certain visas or extensions in Thailand. It´s nothing new. The ones that have been faking their amounts on income letter that always been ccepted are in for reality-check, and will be exposed or have to clear up their situation. The ones that have been honest and living by the actual rules, will still have a worry-free life. It´s nothing strange with that, and it will not be unfair in any way either.

I was in the left lane traveling around 60mph and noticed a space in the right lane. I was moving over and all of a sudden the driver sped up fast and I nearly crashed into him. It was a close call.

First, that is how we do it at home??? Beeping or driving like a fool?

Have you ever considered that you were driving in the left lane, which is for people driving in 60 and lower, and then just saw a space in the right lane which is for people driving quicker. Damn sure that the car coming in that lane was quick, because you probably continued in 60 when he maybe was driving in almost 80.

If that is the case, then I would say you are in the wrong and should have stayed in the left lane. However, that´s only my opinion.

However, over to your main question. Depending on who you hsout, beep, flashing lights or point finger at in traffic everything from nothing or a small dispute to a big asskicking down to a bloody bloody death can be the result.

Personal note: I would have stayed in the left lane and kept calm, slowed down turn my head to my wife and said "Isn´t it terrible how much people hurry today" with a smile.

  15. If you have a Sony TV that go broke after short time, the shop you bought it in will not change it to a new one.

Sony have service station in the bigger cities, and that you can search for on Google. If you buy from a big shop or you trust the shop, you can choose to leave the TV with them and they will send it to service for you. You will have a one year warranty and you will get back your TV serviced with no costs attached to it.

It can take 1-2 month for get this done though. It doesn´t go quickly in Thailand. If you need your TV quick, then I suggest you let a shop you can trust void the warranty and repair it and you pay for the repair.
