Thailand has an incredible moment in this crisis to show how responsible it is, how deserved it is to be a premier tourist destination. Should Thailand continue to show competence in handling this virus, it will come out in the end of all this able to command an even higher level of respect as a world class travel destination. IMO the numbers look good right now. 19 infected, 5 successfully treated and released, the remainder being successfully treated and no deaths. Well done Thailand, considering Thailand is one of the primary and closest destination for the affected (Chinese).
If you believe the numbers, fine. What about 20+ airlines suspending flights to mainland China, except, yes you’ve guessed it, Thai Airways. It’s not really the action of a responsible country.

I wish the WHO would outline what those efforts are, because I haven’t seen any.

Nothing. When told it was Thai culture I said in my culture the father of the bride pays for the wedding. That evened it out. Nothing paid by anyone.

What advances. Best prediction is that it'll take a year to develop a vaccine, otherwise, no known cure.
There was no vaccine at all for the Spanish flu. Now we'll have one within a year. That seems like an advance to me.

The Spanish flu epidemic of 1918-20 infected an estimated 500 million people and killed 20-50 million. Now that was a virus to be worried about.

Maybe he could share with us and all world leaders how Thailand has it “100% under control.” That way the problem will disappear immediately. He should be working at the CDC with skills like this.

Like it or not, this is true.
How come other countries have stopped the burning method then? You don't penalise the polluters; you encourage them and offer incentives for them to stop. This is just his way of saying he can't be bothered.

How can you think it's only from crop burning. What about the garbage burning, burning trees (also leaves falling from trees), burning dry grass , aso...
I was going to list them all, but my keyboard isn't up to the task.

I'm guessing high alcohol consumption over the weekend, still in the blood stream on Monday morning, maybe.
Thanks for your reply. To be honest, I did think that, but I would've thought that accidents would be higher on the weekend itself, unless people are drinking loads and not driving? Just thought it to be a little strange for Mondays to be the highest.

Looking at the chart in the article the death toll seems to be higher on a Monday; 6th (69), 13th (56) and the 20th (73). I wonder why that is.

Maybe not a week, but it would be fixed if we had the power to do so.

I fear that this is a problem that's not going to go away. We can see from satellite imagery that many, many fires are burning across the region. The government can't simply tell the farmers to stop burning as many of them don't know any different, and have done it for years, and will just continue anyway. What the government could offer perhaps is either an incentive to stop, or provide an alternative. In most other countries the fields are ploughed, and not burnt. Sure, burning is the easy option and least labour intensive, so I can see why they do it. But the government could provide some machinery to plough and maybe this would encourage farmers not to burn. I totally realise that this won't happen as nobody gives a damn, but it's so sad when there are solutions, but this government would seemingly rather everyone choke.
