Soft power... new pu_e thai buzz word. Do they even know what it is? Popular culture and mass media are regularly identified as a source of soft power, as is the spread of a national language or a particular set of normative structures. Soft power has been criticized as being ineffective by authors such as Niall Ferguson in the preface to Colossus. Neorealist and other rationalist and neorationalist authors (with the exception of Stephen Walt) dismiss soft power out of hand as they assert that actors in international relations respond to only two types of incentives: economic incentives and force. As a concept, it can be difficult to distinguish soft power from hard power. For example, Janice Bially Mattern argues that George W. Bush's use of the phrase "you are either with us or with the terrorists" was in fact an exercise of hard power. Though military and economic force was not used to pressure other states to join its coalition, a kind of force – representational force – was used. This kind of force threatens the identity of its partners, forcing them to comply or risk being labeled as evil. This being the case, soft power is therefore not so soft.[15] They just want to look like they are doing something. Flapping their arms around like birds would work just as well. I despise anything pu_e thai or shi_awat

10% of Thais Engage in Heavy Drinking, Report Finds
Pouatchee replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Even the big and tall can fall off their perch. A gun will make even the biggest of us fall, and thais have many of those. Truth is, you should be careful of the wife more than the drunk. A judge will likely believe a thai woman over a big falang... and they are very good at looking poor and sheepish... This is their country and if you get deported no matter how much muscle or brawn you have... you will be in a holding cell before you end up home. That said, i support calling out stupidity... just that us big guys usually arent favored in the eyes of the law... exactly because we are big... -
same here in rayong... sometimes, as others have pointed out, it doesmt even get here. i asked my wife to contact the post office... for them, nothing is wrong

Just wonderful. This just goes to prove that booze and ciggies cause way more damage than weed, yet they want to make weed reclassified. Great job pukethai. Casinos, booze, smoke... nice to see ya got your prerogatives straight... -
Fertiliser fiasco: Thailand halts farmers’ subsidy scheme

Seems to me like this would be an opportune time for the "<deleted> to hit the fan". But seeing how the pukethai gvt is running things all the farmers have to do is be patient -
Teen Brutally Attacked by Ex-Boyfriend in Chon Buri
Pouatchee replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Damn... i will never understand the violence done to thai girls/women here. This is the land of plenty... and the girls/women here are relatively easy going and easy to please. If these guys were back in the west they would hang themselves, or worse yet... kill the girls there. Back home competition is way fiercer than here and the ladies ard in no way easy on the eye as they are here. These guys gotta grow up and grow a pair. Quite frankly i dont see what these girls see in these Somchais -
PM Srettha highlights key achievements in first year of office
Pouatchee replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Time is something i hope he is running out of. Everytime i read about anything new proposed by clown face and his minions i cringe. As many here, everything i had is invested here. I often think of the idiom "EASY COME, EASY GO" when something unfortunate happens to me in my daily life. But what seems to be looming ahead visa wise and tax wise doesnt augur well. What scares me most is that once again my future's balance will hang in the hannd of the tax man and immigration officers. It seems that everytime things start to go well something comes along and puts a stick in the wheels. -
Japanese tourists to flock to Thailand despite economic woes
Pouatchee replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thailand aint what it used to be. Anyone claiming it is still cheap has got another thing coming. The tourist scams e.g. taxi meters, dual pricing and police extortion of tourists... (yesterday's headline that chinese tourists on a bus were extorted 700k) come to mind. -

Thaksin May Advise Thai Govt Post-Parole, Can't Be PM Again
Pouatchee replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
why not be pm again? he's been pulling all the strings for a while anyways no sh_t sherlock...💩 -
it didnt work with yingluck shi_awat the first time why would it work now? this is just what these brain dead kids need, another distraction. the major issue here is that the curriculum isnt designed for using tablets or computers. until changes are made in the entire program and money invested where it counts such as teacher salaries to attract the best minds, and not the laziest ones nothing will ever change. these tablets are going to be a welcome distraction for the lazy thai teachers who will let the kids play and then tell admin they are working hard. the system here is not designed to assess kids skills based on learning with IT and every year these useless gvt white collars and admin keep saying how much the drop out rate is an epidemic and how much stupider thai kids are compared to their peers. idiots!!!

i agree they are not the cause, but they still do report the same news for a social problem that is ongoing... nothing has changed since they last posted this. i think that until something actually changes they should abstain from posting the same news... i actually do predict the next time will be about teacher indebtedness
