  1. I experienced a similar situation recently, and I could not understand why my arm-pits were becoming smelly quickly. I sat down and thought about it and decided that the 'pit spray' made in Thailand wasn't working.

As earlier posters have said, a deoderant does not mean anti-perspirant.

I was using Thai 'Smart Ban' because it was the most expensive I thought it would be the best.

It did not work: ingredients were ethanol and fragrance. I had the Mrs. sew half an odour eater into the inside of my Tee-shirt arm pits for a while.

    Then I had a brainwave:

I went to Boots pharmacy and purchased NIVEA deoderant dry, ingredients include Aluminium compounds, but I will take the chance with dementia risks. Is that why Kit Kat dropped the foil?

  2. libyia115 gave a very useful info.

I would have been happy to have known this years ago.

I moved because the neighbors dogs went crazy and were barking specially at nights.Possible left hungry .

    Where to buy one?

Link below, as I said in earlier post, spend $20 dollars extra for high powered version.

    ultrasonic dog whistle

  3. A humane way is to purchase an ultrasonic electric powered whistle. Inaudible to humans it will stop dogs barking. Range about 30 metres, be sure to purchase the high powered one. It also keeps rodents away; useful for keeping rats out of the kitchen.

Good luck, try not to resort to violence or murder.

Platinum package at 2,155 baht is a rip-off. But have to have BBC Prime and Star World aside from Discovery & Natl Geographic

??? Do you mean BBC Prime and Star World are worth an extra 500 baht per month?

  5. The BBC has really gone downhill in recent years, when it comes to unbiassed reporting.

Fox News, is laughable, almost Pythonesque.

TOP TIP: If you want to know the truth, buy Private Eye the bi-monthly publication available in Thailand for 130 Baht.

What have Iran and ladies tights got in common?

  6. Howard seems to be on leave, the recent stories written by the journo in Howards absence have been quite flowery and amusing.

Like the guy that found the bomb, he was apparently sitting around comtemplating life and the price of kao pat gai.

    It is a refreshing change.

I have noticed that the latest news reports on Pattaya News Channel have been more than 'flowery and amusing': They have been sarcastic and disrespectful in the extreme (To Thai authority).

Now, this does not bother me, and some sarcastic news reports have made me smile, but one must remember that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, and I feel that if a 'smart Thai' were to 'cotton -on' to these sarcastic daily news reports then somebody, somewhere, might well end up in hot water.

  7. Hi

My first post, hopefully in the correct forum.

Ok, I'm a bit confused, tried searching and reading, but couldn't find what I was looking for, so here it is:

I hold Bulgarian pasport and I want to go and stay in Thailand for a year, is that possible? Basically I want to go there on a tourist visa, but then what?

I read about visa runs etc but it looks to me that they're only for the people that hold US, UK + few other countries' passports, is that correct?

I do have the means to support myself while there, but I don't have the millions that are required to start a business for example.

Any ideas, advice etc much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Come over after December 31st 2006: January 1st 2007 Bulgaria join the European Union.

  8. You do not want to spend the small expense in getting a new passport and transfer visa , but consider to fly HKG,Singapore etc.

The cost are far higher specially if you have to travel from Pattaya.

The stamps of Mal,SG,HKG are appr same size as the ThaiStamp , except Mynmar which is a bit bigger.

However it might be that the officers who stamp the passport does "waste" space on purpose .

I should have emphasized 'hassle' more than expense. It is no longer a breeze to apply for a replacement passport at the British embassy in Bangkok. The passports are the new 'chipped style'.

It would take two trips to Bangkok, plus special photos plus tranfer of visa etc. Plus it is impossible to telephone through to the British embassy.

An overseas break in KL, HK or SG, would be more of a 'mini-break': Plus, months of passport validity are not 'added on' in the British embassy in L.O.S. only in the U.K. (another con). (British passport fees are about 7000 baht now in L.O.S.).

  9. What's a "chav"? :o

'chav' (slang) - a young person, often without a high level of education, who follows a particular fashion; Chavs usually wear designer labels including the chav favourite 'Burberry', and if they’re girls, very short skirts, large hoop earrings and stilettos.

    CHAV: DEFINITION

Derived from Chatham in Kent, this term can be applied loosely to every culture with a nasty, thieving element. There are many variants of this creature but all are subject to the following commonalities:

Chavs are completely amoral, having never been subjected to right and wrong by their inattentive, uncaring and often absent parents.

Chavs are part Magpie, evidentially supported by their love of all things shiny, or as vaccuous, illiterate street-slang would say 'Bling'. They can be seen twokking from the Jewelry counter in Argos/Index.

Whatever their ethnic background, Chavs have a built-in affinity to hip-hop/R&B, even if they are inherently racist. They see their life as glamorous and cool.

Chavs are for the most part, extremely stupid. However, some of them render a form of low cunning, which can be misinterpreted as intelligence. However this is false. A Chav has no desire to better themself through honest means nor learn anything outside of car modification.

All chavs think that they are nails. Again, this is false. Sitting in a beaten up nova smoking lamberts does not precipitate a healthy body. The irony being that a Chav owns mainly sportswear, yet will only break a sweat if running from the police.

Chavs are incredibly fertile beasts, and are highly successful breeders. Where they come unstuck is having to look after the offspring which their 13 yr old drunken fumble produces. More often that not the child will grow to be a Chav, having received no more guidance on life than the parent.

Chavs have a fond love for cars, as well as a Vin Diesel fixation. Rather than buy a nice car to start with, a chav will spend all their dole and tax-free labouring cash on upgrading a 10 year old car with 200,000 miles on the clock. The end product will invariably be a luminous monstrosity with at least one serious collision to it's name.

  10. My passport, is very short of space, and since it has my one year 'O' visa in it, I can't be bothered the hassle and expense of changing it 'early' and getting the Thai visa transferred etc.

So Cambodia is out: always a full page sticker.

    Question is this;

    How big are Singapore/Hong Kong/Malaysia entry/exit stamps?

I am a British passport holder.

Will a couple of half pages of passport space be enough?

  11. All the above points are common sense. However I won't be wearing a suit at Pattaya Immigration, even if it was a 'Man from Del Monte' original, complete with a Panama hat lovingly crafted in Equador.

TOP TIP: Is go early and don't wear dark sunglasses whilst conducting business. I have been told by a Thai official, that this is not good manners. And a sweaty vest, will not be considered etiquette either: sleeved shirts are best.

In Immigration, in Manila, they are very strict: No shorts, and only proper shoes allowed. I got sent away for wearing quality sandals, because I thought only 'Flip-Flops' were banned.

  12. Under no circumstances purchase the very attractive looking NOKIA 6111.

I bought one and within one week it had become faulty. I had a right palaver changing it.

I just thought that I was unlucky. Then I did some research on the internet; and there are actual forums devoted to the unreliability of the NOKIA 6111.

I visited a NOKIA shop in Pattaya, and the staff even told me, they choose not to stock it now, because of their reputation.

    caveat emptor!

  13. Ulysses G: Thanks for all info. This place sounds really worth a try for muscoskeletal disorders, how long is a session...1 hour? You mentioned going daily, is that the best initial advice for treatment? How much for 1 hour of bona-fide reflexology (foot and hands) approx? As you turn left from Beach Road, the place is left side or right side, Bamboo Bar is right side. Thanks.

  14. This is slightly off topics, but Earl's Reflexology on the road that turns off to the left at the entrance to walking street offers the best acu-PRESSURE in the Kingdom which has many of the benifits of acu-puncture without the needles.

Every time I visit Pattaya, I go at least once a day.

I can't remember her name, but one lady has been there for years and teaches the other girls, but she only does feet and hand massage (reflexology).

Can you descible how this reflexology works, I assume it is different than the thousands of foot massage places all over Pattaya.

Could you describe what happens to your hands and feet, and what particular physical complaint you are treating/was treating on a daily basis. Thanks for more info......

  15. Surely the true home of the 'English Curry' is the 'Curry-House Mile' in Rusholme, Manchester. Which is a mile of Indian food restaurants and take-aways (probably over one hundred) that stetch from Central Manchester Eastwards....

But I did read somewhere that most 'Indian' curry houses in England are in fact Bangladeshi.

  16. note that the Emirates flight to HK from BKK is coming from Dubai. They don't seem to clean the business class cabin (full of trash each time I flew), so I can only imagine what economy is like.

The trip on the way back is fine.

If only I could take Cathay going there and Emirates coming back.

That is true, but that is why Emirates business class BKK-HK is so cheap, just 2 thousand baht more than economy class, worth it for the extra airmiles, fast check-in, luggage allowance, hand luggage benefits, champagne and toiletries bag and snacks and attentive service, ICE in flight entertainment and ease of travel.

  17. I tried for ages to find an 'English' style curry in Thailand. In Pattaya I have tried every Indian restaurant and take-away and none come close.

So, I did some research on the internet, some experimentation in the kitchen, and now make my own. It is a bit of a pain getting all the ingredients, but most spices last ages when bought.

Make a supply of your own curry pastes, then when you make a curry, make a load and freeze it into plastic bags with elastic bands.

If you are in/around Pattaya then self-service curry counter in Carrefour supermarket is O.K. and cheap (25B a plastic bag); (get 2 per person). But for the real 'English' curry: time to visit your own kitchen and get cooking.
