  1. "However, the energy minister warned that these subsidies will be distributed on a “first-come, first-served” basis due to the limited budget." That means that someone or some few already have the inside track. They can smell billions in the air from quite a distance.
  2. My Thai brother in law is a bike mechanic here in the States. He got a deal on a Honda CBR250R recently. About 4800 km on the odometer, looks like new in the pictures. I'm not sure of the year.He might have had to tinker with it a bit and get a new battery. He paid $200. US. Looks like this:
  3. Ooh, Ooh, put the cuffs on and punish me! --------------------------------------------------- So they have several hours of boring footage to watch. Are they going to get some beer and popcorn and watch the show? This stuff about broken/malfunctioning cameras is sort of like the bad driving excuses after crashes - brake failure/micro sleep/it was a dark and stormy night/someone cut in front of me.
  4. Indeed. Would you please repeat that to my wife? Thanks!
  5. Loei has the Loei Gentlemens Motorcycle Club that was started 15 or more years ago. On one visit long ago I met the founder because my Thai bro-in-law worked on his bike. The club is still around and has quite a few group rides, attend charity events, meet with Thai clubs and whatnot. They have expat and Thai members. They had a clubhouse/bar but it shut down due to Covid. On a recent visit I met up with the club secretary, a nice British fellow, and I bought him a beer. He's been riding his bike all over northern Thailand for a couple months and is currently up in Laos having fun with some German riders. I didn't seek out others or folks at the farang Saloon Loei in the two months I was there. Wife and I went to Vietnam. Up in the mountains in the far north she met a Thai/British couple who were touring on a motorbike. On our way back to Hanoi we met them again at a bus rest stop. They live in Chiang Mai. Had a nice chat and we may visit them one day.
  6. I recently replaced 3 faucet sets (two nuts each). One more to go. I think I managed to loosen the nuts using the tips of the Vise Grip jaws. What pain! Mine were inside a vanity cabinet in a very tight space - had to lay on my back in there. Not looking forward to replacing the last one.
  7. Could well be. Somewhat poorly written article (or translation) I think.
  8. This is a strange one. Who goes debt collecting in the middle of the night? Looks like a CZ pistol or clone but the cartridges look a bit strange. Not short like a 9mm. Maybe .38 Super?
  9. " ... Six Thai airports—Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, and Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai—operated by the Airports of Thailand (AOT), were declared no-smoking zones in 2019, and all smoking rooms inside the terminals have since been closed. ..." Suvarnabhumi had a couple smoking areas outside when I was there in Sept/Oct. At least in the arrival/pickup area at ground level.
  10. Ripoff Thai Populace, LLC (Sure seems that they are Limited Liability Crooks.)
  11. I was just going to post something like that, LOL. If customs ask about the hat, just tell them you're from Emmental.
  12. I used to like wandering around in that general area around Yaowarat/Pahurat. 45 years back we had a favorite little hole in the wall Indian restaurant in a back alley. Bought a couple things at Amorn Electronics (17 years ago LOL).
  13. Last fall my wife complained about the sweet curry, etc. I will eat sweet deserts or candy occasionally, but like my regular food hot and sour.
  14. Apparently the last place they looked.
  15. And if you want to get dramatic, also burp and fart a lot.
  16. Interesting thread, though I can't help as we got married in Loei 44 years ago. I don't even remember what she looked like unless I dig out the old photo album. Do they still require a character reference/witness or some such? I had to drag my old, infirm landlord to the office in a samlor to tell them I was a nice guy. We walked in and they started cow-towing and apologizing for disturbing the old guy. The rubber stamps were smoking. (He had been the superintendent of education for the province of Loei.) No doubt he was related to someone in there.
  17. My first thought was some sort of a barge but it was unclear in the news photo. Who would take that out in rough weather? TIT
  18. Sounds to me like some retailers may have increased the price in anticipation of a factory increase. Some of my wife's childhood friends are merchants. They are very successful and would anticipate things like this.
  19. Well, I was in the middle of writing a glowing review when that ship listed and spilled the free meal all over my new outfit! Then I slid over to the low side and got my new shoes soaked. I think I'll stick to reporting on all-you-can-eat shrimp buffets for Chinese tourists on land, not that that doesn't have its hazards.
  20. 2? Ridiculous. Fill up the jails again. How many does an average addict take per day? What does a pill sell for these days? How about a week in jail for every pill over some small limit?
  21. Or shoot from the hip. Some of these folks could get a job acting in old western shoot-em-up movies.
