  1. Interesting thread, though I can't help as we got married in Loei 44 years ago. I don't even remember what she looked like unless I dig out the old photo album. Do they still require a character reference/witness or some such? I had to drag my old, infirm landlord to the office in a samlor to tell them I was a nice guy. We walked in and they started cow-towing and apologizing for disturbing the old guy. The rubber stamps were smoking. (He had been the superintendent of education for the province of Loei.) No doubt he was related to someone in there.
  2. My first thought was some sort of a barge but it was unclear in the news photo. Who would take that out in rough weather? TIT
  3. Sounds to me like some retailers may have increased the price in anticipation of a factory increase. Some of my wife's childhood friends are merchants. They are very successful and would anticipate things like this.
  4. Well, I was in the middle of writing a glowing review when that ship listed and spilled the free meal all over my new outfit! Then I slid over to the low side and got my new shoes soaked. I think I'll stick to reporting on all-you-can-eat shrimp buffets for Chinese tourists on land, not that that doesn't have its hazards.
  5. 2? Ridiculous. Fill up the jails again. How many does an average addict take per day? What does a pill sell for these days? How about a week in jail for every pill over some small limit?
  6. Maybe Zeus and Atlas were on the same bowling team. Flat earth (at the end).
  7. I tried riding a Honda Zoomer-X scooter last fall. I hadn't ridden in years and used to ride regular motorcycles both on and off-road. That scooter with smaller wheels was just too twitchy for me.
  8. Now that I think about it, it was Kelloggs corn flakes. Cheerios popped into my head because I've been eating them lately.
  9. Weird, but my Dad sorta died in my arms, so to speak. Four of us kids from all over the U.S. went to his place for his 80th birthday. He had 2 incidences the day before where he had to go to the hospital, heart problems, got back late in the evening. Then just after midnight on his birthday he had another attack when he was on the crapper. He fell off. I tried to give CPR while he laid on the floor but no luck. I will always believe that Dad gave up the ghost at that moment because of the situation. In a few minutes, he looked years older. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread, but few know when the time will come, or the circumstance.
  10. "...inhaling, touching or ingesting liquid nitrogen can be very harmful to body tissues..." Why do they need it so cold? But I guess vendors do anything and everything to get peoples attention and to hell with the consequences. But liquid nitrogen isn't easy to handle, nor cheap AFIK. ???
  11. I'd like to get to know a couple of these people who make these kind of decisions/proclamations, just so I could judge how ditzy they are. But it's all probably done by committee after many paid lunch meetings. I'm sure there is an algorithm for calculating the stupidity ratio based on the number of members and such. To be fair, I should study my Thai language and culture for another 10 years and read all they write about this in Thai before I grouse about it. But if I ask my Thai wife about it, she'd say "What the hell do you expect?" and look at me like I'm a moron.
  12. I didn't have pizza during my visit in Sept/Oct. Someone bought me a slice of pizza when I went to Vietnam for a week. Yuk! I lived in New Jersey (USA) for many years, and there were real Italian Mom & Pop pizza joints all over the place. I did find some Cheerios breakfast cereal (oat based) at Big C, so that and a banana was my farang breakfast.
  13. So, they have anti-defamation laws to prevent people from pointing out the worst and now the folks with the best can't advertise it.
  14. Wow, thanks for that! I looked further and the internet says this (so it must be true): The State of Italy has also unilaterally announced that putting pineapple on pizza under any circumstances is tantamount to an Act of War under International Law. This understanding has gained acceptance following the International Law Commission's (ILC) Draft Articles on Properly Preparing a Pizza (1996).
  15. My buddy and I did that back in September with our wives. We were the only people in that line. We both had eVisas.
  16. If they just put all of them near the middle of the road, drivers could see and avoid them.
  17. My wife's nephew married a gal over in Laos last fall. He brought me back a couple cans of Beer Lao (dark).
