  1. Maybe Zeus and Atlas were on the same bowling team. Flat earth (at the end).
  2. Get up, stand up. Stand up when you ride.
  3. If they let the monkeys just drive motorbikes the stats would go way down.
  4. I tried riding a Honda Zoomer-X scooter last fall. I hadn't ridden in years and used to ride regular motorcycles both on and off-road. That scooter with smaller wheels was just too twitchy for me.
  5. An American in Bangkok traffic ...
  6. Now that I think about it, it was Kelloggs corn flakes. Cheerios popped into my head because I've been eating them lately.
  7. Jeff Bezos did pretty well selling books on line.
  8. I just smile and show them my tattoo.
  9. Weird, but my Dad sorta died in my arms, so to speak. Four of us kids from all over the U.S. went to his place for his 80th birthday. He had 2 incidences the day before where he had to go to the hospital, heart problems, got back late in the evening. Then just after midnight on his birthday he had another attack when he was on the crapper. He fell off. I tried to give CPR while he laid on the floor but no luck. I will always believe that Dad gave up the ghost at that moment because of the situation. In a few minutes, he looked years older. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread, but few know when the time will come, or the circumstance.
  10. "...inhaling, touching or ingesting liquid nitrogen can be very harmful to body tissues..." Why do they need it so cold? But I guess vendors do anything and everything to get peoples attention and to hell with the consequences. But liquid nitrogen isn't easy to handle, nor cheap AFIK. ???
  11. I'd like to get to know a couple of these people who make these kind of decisions/proclamations, just so I could judge how ditzy they are. But it's all probably done by committee after many paid lunch meetings. I'm sure there is an algorithm for calculating the stupidity ratio based on the number of members and such. To be fair, I should study my Thai language and culture for another 10 years and read all they write about this in Thai before I grouse about it. But if I ask my Thai wife about it, she'd say "What the hell do you expect?" and look at me like I'm a moron.
  12. I didn't have pizza during my visit in Sept/Oct. Someone bought me a slice of pizza when I went to Vietnam for a week. Yuk! I lived in New Jersey (USA) for many years, and there were real Italian Mom & Pop pizza joints all over the place. I did find some Cheerios breakfast cereal (oat based) at Big C, so that and a banana was my farang breakfast.
  13. So, they have anti-defamation laws to prevent people from pointing out the worst and now the folks with the best can't advertise it.
  14. Wow, thanks for that! I looked further and the internet says this (so it must be true): The State of Italy has also unilaterally announced that putting pineapple on pizza under any circumstances is tantamount to an Act of War under International Law. This understanding has gained acceptance following the International Law Commission's (ILC) Draft Articles on Properly Preparing a Pizza (1996).
  15. My buddy and I did that back in September with our wives. We were the only people in that line. We both had eVisas.
  16. If they just put all of them near the middle of the road, drivers could see and avoid them.
  17. My wife's nephew married a gal over in Laos last fall. He brought me back a couple cans of Beer Lao (dark).
  18. Oy! Health issues, drug/alcohol poisoning or just stumbled and hit his head the wrong way? It's a damned shame... alone. I wish you better luck in the afterlife guy.
  19. Crispy critter! There's something about Thai power poles that attracts vehicles. Considering that the electricity is alternating current, I wonder if half the crashes are on each side of the road.
  20. For 6-7K Baht, I'd take her to the moon and back. ???? But she's pretty yappy.
  21. "You have to consider your tax situation. Social security benefits are not fully taxes. Withdrawals from retirement accounts are. " -------------------------------------- Yeah, it's kind of tricky depending on one's situation. SS benefits can actually be cut a good bit if you "work", until you reach 70. Not sure if retirement accounts (like 401K or IRA) are treated like working income as far as SS benefit reduction, but certainly are taxable. In my case I'm burning some post-tax savings until I get to the point of mandatory withdrawals from my 401K. Recently I heard about the "Spousal Benefit" where one's spouse in SS could get a boost in monthly income based on your benefit (assuming it's higher), maybe up to half of your's. And they don't have to kill you! (Death benefit gets them more, LOL) A friend's wife got boosted by maybe $1,000/month because of this.
  22. Spent a few days in Nha Trang in late October. Seems like a nice town. We didn't do a lot, mostly hung around my wife's sister's house. Did check out a couple markets and that ancient temple thing on the hill by the river.
  23. It will be interesting to hear the full story. Mostly Asians celebrating in a community that is about 2/3 Asian and the suspected shooter appears to be Asian ... ??? I'd like a bit more nut-case control. Society here seems to be going off the deep end these days. As a 14 year old or so kid, I was allowed to take my .22 rifle, with ammo, as carry on luggage on an airplane. Unaccompanied by an adult, no less.
  24. Bit of discussion about local brands in this older thread:
