  1. This is really affecting the image of Thailand.

    Previously they could hide under the cover of preventing corruption and doing their best for the country.

    But the corruption, more and more, is clear for the average person to see.

    It's really sad for the respectable, respectful and tolerant Thai people. To have thugs and thieves representing them.

    It's also sad for the foreigners that love or used to love Thailand. Maybe whom have lived or visited the place for a good portion of their lives and wouldn't hear a bad word said about the place.

    Just built a Ryzen 3 computer so my old system is redundant It is the same spec as the OP except 16 GB ram The plan is to try windows 10 to see how it copes before installing a Linux variant My wife's laptop is a dual core running windows 10 and it is slooooooow           My advice to the OP would be to buy second hand.

    Only a couple of likely possibilities; Athlon X2 BE-2350 or Athlon X2 4050e.

    Either of them will run Windows 10 64 bit, in conjunction with 4GB of RAM and an SSD. If you have a separate graphics card then even better.

    So no major issues envisaged as a general purpose PC in conjunction with 16 GB of RAM and an SSD.

    I run a laptop with a similarly capable CPU in conjunction with 4GB of RAM and an SSD. It's fine for Office and surfing.

    It doesn't sound as if you have fitted your wife's laptop with an SSD. I have tested many ten year old dual core laptops, all fitted with 4GB of RAM and SSD. None of them are slow. All loaded fully and a ready for use within half a minute of pressing the power button.

    The issue is rarely the CPU for when it comes to basic performance. The bottleneck is usually the mechanical storage in combination with software bloat. Clean install the operating system to an SSD and note the difference in performance in day to day usage.

    Up to you, sir.

    I know a lot of richer Indian tourists like to try Ali Baba at least once. That doesn't mean I'm recommending Ali Baba (I'm not actually).

    What does Ali Baba have to do with anything? Did Madras Darbar change their name suddenly?

    Talk about bait & switch....

    There is a row or around five Indian restaurants, all next to each other, servicing the Golden Beach Hotel.

    You'll see similar on Thappraya, servicing the Beverly Plaza. Ate once at the Royal Hut many years ago when it first opened. Wasn't bad.

    Might have eaten at Ali Baba on Klang perhaps fifteen years ago...perhaps not.

    Exactly. The influence of modern American culture on Thailand. First we had that hip-hop nonsense in Mixx, now this.

    Having a brain fart(a temporary mental lapse or failure to reason correctly)?

    First privately held hand gun I saw in Thailand was when a resort owner showed me his in 1998. I guess he needed to protect his business, since he is a big player on the island.

    The second was a doctor in Central Pattaya. So hardly the kind of thug to which you allude. Hip-Hop? What ere you thinking?

    The lower budget ones appear to be big fans of the lower cost thali and thali unlimited places. When in groups they are negotiating group discounts. There are also literal buffet restaurants for large tour groups. I doubt any of them are feeling these feedings are a peak culinary experiences.

    Higher end Indians can be found eating at places like Madras Darbar.

    That would be a no. That is one of the places that I tried. Those restaurants have customers courtesy of being next to the Golden Beach Hotel.

    I make better at home.

    Agree with above

    On top, users running Windows 7 should be aware that the extended support ends in January 2020,  no more security patches from then on.

    Not sure the OP's specs will be able to run Windows 10 after the upgrade...

    Specs are just ok, but not worth spending anything like 3000 baht on that device if it already has an SSD fitted. Perhaps the graphics card will solve the "silvery blotch" issue. Move RAM to a minimum of 4GB. Installation of Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. So under 1000 baht.

    But in the end you'll be pushing the device to it's limits, with nowhere else to go.

  7. If you are going to spend as much as 3000 baht, just get a better PC.

    Example; https://www.thailandallit.com/product/8/dell-optiplex-7010-รุ่น-top-pc-dell-มือสอง-pc-dell-ราคาถูก

    Current PC;

    2.png.fb09ca4a794d9fa8af91507eba75d7a1.png

    New PC;

    3.png.e3fa7fa73b067ba981b364c61d4f218e.png

    You'll also get more out of your SSD, as the new PC will have SATA III support, as opposed to SATA II.

    In addition to that, you'll also have more than double the amount of faster RAM. So much more capable overall.

    Odd, cos I've been on the unlimited data for 2 years, and when I renewed in August I got a warning message that I was now on the data limited plan.

    Probably because you choose the code for a defunct plan.

    What is available is;

    1 Mbps 3/6/12 months 800/1200/1800 baht

    4 Mbps 3 months 1284 baht

    10 Mbps 3 months 1926 baht

    Windows crashed last night.  I have some old tires and a container of diesel fuel and I noticed that they sell marshmallows at Tesco. it is a 80 kilometre journey to get them so I just might try reloading Windows. Works Okay in safe mode with networking, using it now, but won't start normally keeps emitting a sound like I'm trying to input something when I shouldn't be and finally shuts down and tries to reboot.

    Does that mean that you are going to have a go with Windows 10 64 bit?

    My go to place for Indian food is Fisherman by the lake. I have been using this place for many years, its had a few ups and downs over time but has been consistently good lately. The only negative for me, their nan breads are way too heavy. I do, from time to time, try places around Pattaya, only ones I have found half decent are both in Jomtiem, real India and that new place opposite Rompol market, Masala Twist.

    Like I already stated, I find all Indian food here overpriced- a chicken curry is cheap and easy to make, some chicken, herbs and sauce. They normally sell on average for 200B plus. I would suggest that there is little price difference in the making of a Thai chicken curry and an Indian chicken curry, cant see anyone paying 200B plus for a Thai curry.

    Can't say that I agree that they are at all similar. Whether it's cheap and easy is dependent on how it is made.

    https://greatcurryrecipes.net/2013/12/31/make-indian-restaurant-style-curry-sauce-large-batch/

    is a typical basic sauce recipe.

    A good basic sauce will be reduced over time to develop the flavours. Many of the sauces in Pattaya tend to lack flavour. A sign that not much in the way of reduction has taken place.

    Can't say I've ever had a great Indian curry in Thailand. But I can say that I've had some really poor examples. It's like they really don't care. I've had some tasty ones in Singapore. Not in restaurants, but in Hawker centres, where they make up a really good batch.

    In restaurants, they try to please everyone and often in the end tend to please no one. Hawker centres can just make one or two really good examples. though again, not necessarily in Thailand. Their markets are spread too thin, so often they end up creating the same bland mess as the restaurants.

    Not sure that is still the case but it certainly was 5-10 years back. So many cheap looking places have opened in the last few years.

    True. Have noted some with 150 baht Thali(a platter containing varied dishes) and perhaps there was even an 'all you can eat' restaurant. You'll find them on the stretch of Thappraya between Pattaya Sai 2 Soi 17 & Soi 18.

    For example; http://punjabitadkapattaya.com/ have Thali for between 120 baht & 180 baht.

    A pic of their 'Special' vegetarian Thali for 150 baht(they have a non vegetarian for 180);

    Thali are a good way to get an Indian meal without paying silly prices.

    The all you can eat Indian restaurant is, if still there, a few doors to the left of this one.

    It seems that the HK Rep agrees with what I said.  Maybe the driver for the older card has the older software that corrected the overscan properly.  Evidently he discussed this problem with their engineering and came back with asking me to try the "beta" driver.  I'm not worried as the 32" Acer monitor works fine and the display is duplicated correctly on my old Samsung 45" plasma TV.

    As long as it all works, we can all relax. ????

    have a so so CPU......... getting on in years..  AMD FX-8350 Black Edition with the  AMD R9 290X 4GB Graphics card.

    Always had AMD since day 1, many many years and builds ago, same with laptop alway had AMD

    I would hazard a guess of a start up time to fully loaded and ready for use from pressing the power button, of less than twenty seconds.

    Confusing description, as the second option has limited data at 4 Mbps.

    In fact it's just a standard Truemove H SIM, supplied with publicly available codes that you can tap in for yourself.

    In my experience the 1mbps is adequate and from your description of your use it should be for you.

    The key issue is that the data is unlimited as they say, however after 7.5 Gb of data in one month the speed will drop to 128kbps!

    You make erroneous assumptions. There are two possibilities, dependent on the age of the SIM involved.

    SIMs activated before the 1st of Feb are still eligible for truly unlimited 1 Mbps, 4 Mbps and 10 Mbps data.

    SIMs activated after that have the limited data component,
