  1. Thanks Andrew. I will have a go myself despite my lawyer suggesting it could take up to 3 visits to get the translation agreed! He would like me to pay 4K for him to handle that part...

Not sure of why 3 visits ?? But it’s almost 2 years when I did mine.

Was really easy, Embassy appointment which was quick and easy and then off to MFA, left the documents there with a lady at the counter, paid the money and they posted them on.

I don’t remember exactly what copies they requested but we did them at the MFA so probably passport copies etc etc .

EDIT: just had a quick look and the copies were 2 passport copies, boarding card and my gf’s blue book ( not sure if that was required at MFA maybe just in with the other stuff ), recommend you take all the documents with you that you might need.

I just remembered that while we were there my gf called the Amphur with a question and they then said “ oh and we need a certified copy and translation of your birth certificate also “. [emoji35]

Luckily I had an original birth certificate with me and the Amphur said that just a translation would do !! So got one done along with the passport.

I believe the birth certificate is because they want your parents names translated, but not 100% sure .

Looks like it was 1,150 baht at Embassy and 450 baht at MFA .

  2. Hi again, I read on the British Embassy website that " AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT4.You may need to get your certified copytranslated into ThaiThe authority that has requested the certified copywill inform you if your affirmation needs to be translatedin to Thai. Go to any translation agency. There are translation services available at the Legalisation Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (see next step 5) "

The next step is just the address of the MOFA at Chaaeng Wattana. I am happy to go there myself since I am free in the next few weeks and will get my lawyer to do the translation beforehand. He wants 4K to go to MOFA... Would you recommend I pay him to go to MOFA or do that part myself? I'm used to standing in queues at the Imiigration Department:)

I did it myself, they can post it on to you by EMS.

But then again I live north of Bangkok ( Ayutthaya ) so after the Embassy I called in at MFA, it was on my way home.
  3. OCD is a better diagnosis, but you should also know that in most Western countries where recycling is done mechanically by computer programmed video and jets of air they ask that plastic bottles, soda/beer cans and cartons should not be crushed. The video/computer has a harder time recognizing the item to be recycled and the programmed jets of air are not as effective in the separation process as the objects move along the conveyor belt. Not sure what the recycling process is performed here.

Initially I wasn’t crushing the plastic bottles, just chucked them in a big bag. The first thing that the recycling guy did was crush them before weighing. So now I crush them, helps with storage.

  4. I do the same as the op , crush the plastic bottles and put them in a big bag round the back for the recycling guy. Also glass bottles are stored for recycling.

Bought a big flip top bin and black bin bags so now the waste ( usually lotus or Big C bags from the kitchen bin ) are tied up and put in the bigger bin outside.
Waste removal comes early Sat and Tues, I tie up the black bag and put it in my bunker.

Maybe I’m OCD( actually I think I am ) but my bunker is clean and easy for the collection guys to handle. Next doors if full of trash, small bags untied, plastic bottles etc etc and stinks to high heaven !!

  5. As KK notes, I just purchased 3 sims with pre-paid 4 MBPS for 1 year on Lazada for B1790 each, which works out to B150 per month. They arrived quickly and I went to True with my phone and my daughters' phones and got the SIMS registered and installed. I already had 2 sims, one for phone calls and 1 for data, so I just changed the CAT data sim with the new True sim. The woman at True confirmed the 1 year contract term and the 4 MBPS speed of the service. My daughters both have iPhones, so they now have new numbers as their old numbers with CAT could not be transferred to the new True sims. Everything else works perfectly, including Line and all of the apps on their phones. They are both very pleased with the quality of the service, but as they get older I expect that keeping their present number will become more/very important. A very good deal, I think, if you can accept a change in phone number on the new sim.

Yup, a good deal indeed, I have the same ( 4 mbps True unlimited valid for 1 year).
Bought mine from Lazada also and registered 1st Jan.
I bought 2 , one for me and gf , paid 2,490 baht ( 1,245 each ). Looks like they have increased in price, but still a good deal.
  6. Did he in fact remove the sim, delete data and change the language? I read the article from the OP and didn’t see that info. Did I miss it? Where are you getting it from?

Can’t find the link that I originally read , but here’s a similar one.

Of course it’s now all a question of who ( or which newspaper) do you believe but just the fact that he took the phone back to his hostel without looking for somewhere to hand it in is suspicious in itself.

  7. I saw a robbery at the new Apple store in Icon Siam.  Police called me in as an iWitness.

I was at the opening day of that store and interested to see Apple showing off some of their latest ventures :

Apple makeup - iShadow, iBrow and iLash
    Apple kitchen appliances - iLevel
    Apple frozen desserts - iScream

It was a kind of Motor Show affair with lots of pretties around - iCandy and iFull
