Has no one in Thailand heard of the presumption of innocence? To spend ten days in gaol as a presumed innocent man is odd justice isn't it? To commit a crime in civilised countries, like Thailand, one must do so with "intention" (to commit the unlawful act). No one, in a civilised country, would go to gaol for unintentionally committing a crime.
Perhaps it was because he refused to sign a document admitting guilt? Another odd facet of Thai "justice."
Do you think he unintentionally removed the sim card, deleted all the data and changed the language to English ??-

A Leeds fan , an Arsenal fan and a Man Utd fan were all in Saudi Arabia, sharing a smuggled crate of booze. All of a sudden Saudi police rushed in and arrested them. The mere possession of alcohol is a severe offence in Saudi Arabia, so for the terrible crime of actually being caught consuming the booze, they were sentenced to death! However, after many months and with the help of very good lawyers, they were able to successfully appeal their sentence down to life imprisonment.
By a stroke of luck, it was a Saudi National Holiday the day their trial finished, and the extremely benevolent Sheikh decided they could be released after receiving just 20 lashes each of the whip. As they were preparing for their punishment, the Sheikh suddenly said: "It is my first wife's birthday today, and she has asked me to allow each of you one wish before your whipping."
The Arsenal fan was first in line (he had consumed the least), so he thought about it for a while and then said: "Please tie a pillow to my back."
This was done, but the pillow only lasted 10 lashes before the whip went through it. The Arsenal fan had to be carried away bleeding and crying when the punishment was done.
The Man Utd. fan was next up (he almost finished a half-keg), and after watching the scene, said: "Choice! Please fix two pillows on my back."
But even two pillows could only take 15 lashes before the whip went through again.
The Leeds fan was the last one up (he had finished off the keg), but before he could say anything, the Sheikh turned to him and said: "You are from a most beautiful part of England, your city has some of the best and most loyal football fans in the world. For this, you may have two wishes!"
"Cheers mate, your Most Royal and Merciful highness", the Leeds fan replied. "In recognition of your kindness, my first wish is that you give me not 20, but 100 lashes."
"Not only are you an honorable, handsome and powerful man, you are also very brave." The Sheik said with an admiring look on his face. "If 100 lashes is what you desire, then so be it. And your second wish? What is it to be?" the Sheik asked.
"Tie that Manchester United fan to my back!-

I am going to do either the o/a or maybe just the o visa which only requires a copy of your state pension and no proof of earnings . Is good for 15 months at 125 pounds for the multi entry .The things that bother me if recommending Thailand for a retirement home is the political instability of the country and the oppressive heat in their summer . Ideally it would be a 6 month in Thailand and maybe 6 months somewhere in a Mediterranean country .
A spanner in the works could come in the shape of compulsory health insurance . That could well be a deciding factor on where one can retire . Probably out of the reach of most guys in their 60s and up .
Yes, I only qualify for OA ( 10 years off State pension age ) and will likely go for it around September mainly to avoid tying money up in Thai bank.
Although, the Thai Embassy London is making some changes to their applications procedures ( adding online application ) and has delayed the start date for this to May . I just wonder if they are going to add a couple of hurdles to the OA ??
Also, agree, compulsory health insurance would see a mass exodus, no doubt they would only stipulate Thai insurance as per the OX visa.

The yellow book is the huge hurdle.
Like many things in the Thai bureaucracy, it's so variable, office to office
Some Amphurs seems to dish them out like candy...Others not so much.
I tried a couple of times, over a couple of the years and the bitch kept saying "we don't issue them to farangs"
So I just gave up.
Whether or not it made my life in Thailand any harder, well I'm skeptical about that. Maybe I could have got into National Parks cheaper.
I think I coped with that inconvenience!
Yes.
My Amphur wanted certified copy of passport from Embassy translated at MFA, then added translation of birth certificate at MFA, then added certified and translated copy of decree nisi !! , at this point I abandoned it .
The “ game “ was getting too tiresome and expensive for my liking !!
I’ve survived without it, but often wondered if it would have spared my wallet on entering National Parks ?-

There was a similar question asked a few weeks ago. I, and many others replied, and they are mostly probably relevant here.
I'm sorry, but I can't get anywhere with TV's search facility, but I'm sure someone should be able to find the relevant topic and provide a link.
Steve I think you are referring to my thread “ water pump pulsing “ also in DIY forum.
My issue was different in that the pump was cycling every 3 seconds or so after I drained it ( and the tank ) to reposition it and previous, to me draining it, it would run all the time when ever a toilet was flushed or a tap opened.
I got lots of great advice and the problem resolved itself but it did take 2 weeks !!
It was probably due to voltage changes or I’m thinking now more likely to be air trapped somewhere, possibly in the bladder tank . -

how can i get a 2 year visa from the uk ????
As JT has said, Marcus is talking about the OA one year multi entry visa available in your home country ( or where you have permanent residence ), which, if used wisely, can give you nearly 2 years and the financial requirements ( equivalents of 800k or 65k) can be in your own countries bank.
A good option to avoid the current financial requirements in a Thai bank.
Medical required( can be done in Thailand or home country )
Home country police record check required.
Available for over 50’s.
London Thai Embassy is undergoing some changes to application for OA ( including some online requirements ) but this won’t happen until May .

Spotted a mobile/cel phone in a 20 baht shop recently amongst the goods for sale, called the cashier over and showed her.
The other day, in underground Lotus car park, a woman in a red plate Pajero had got in a difficult position trying to reverse out, her car was virtually touching the next car.
She wanted me to get it out for her, I explained , via the gf, that I didn’t want to drive her car for obvious reasons but would tell her which way to turn the wheel etc, which we did and all was good.
Common sense prevails in this situation and you can help someone without putting yourself in a “ situation “.
Seems to me the guy took the phone, checked it out before handing it in, if it was an unlocked iPhone XS maybe a different ending ?

I would recommend anyone thinking about retiring to Thailand to only come on an OA visa ( therefore avoiding the Thai banks requirements), not to burn any bridges in their home country and to rent not buy ( a home ).
After 2 years on the OA expats can then decide whether to continue or not .-

They used to have an outside door entrance in Rayong for the 90 days. Very quick and a separate number que but those guys all got fired or transferred and new guys cut the labor by 70% and eliminated any semblance of order. I think it may have gotten a bit better when that crew also turned over.
Yes, I used Pathum Thani IO before and they had a few different doors, 90 days there was passport and TM47 only, no copies, very quick.
Ayutthaya is one room, 4 desks, with a lobby desk to check your docs and make copies etc. Works efficiently.
Not so many expats here, many Japanese workers and Chinese monks !! -

Strong words indeed !! but sometimes things are said in anger but not really heartfelt, only the OP knows if it is irreparable.
Who knows what tomorrow might bring, maybe she’s gonna be all huggy and chatty ? If not, then time to make your move, move out for a few days and check into a resort/ hotel to plan your escape.
My ex wife used to fall out with her sisters ( she was one of five ) and take it out on me by making shit up and looking for an argument, it all got tiresome and in the end I left , never regretted it and now happier than ever.
Do you want to try and save the marriage or will you be happier out of it ?
Is it a complete disaster or a fortuitous way to start a new life.
Only you know.
Good luck either way .
