No offence but it sounds like your problem might be more psychiatric than anything. We live in a polluted city and you can minimise the health consequences by running air purifiers and wearing a pollution mask. If it's causing you that much anguish though, why stay here?

I see it's all in my head. If that is the case, what is all the week old gray stuff on the Filtrete?  Are you seeing it too?  If you are, are you in need of psychiatric help?  Perhaps we go together and get a group price.

Air purifiers are just fans combined with a HEPA filter. They don't cost much to run at all in terms of electricity.

Wow, I didn't know that.  Hmmm ... did I also mention my AC was running 24/7 for the last month?  Wait, those are fans with compressors and big devices outside.  Nah, I'm sure they won't cost much either.  I can't believe I gave it a thought.

I'm guessing that gray stuff on the filter is probably nothing to sneeze at.

    I'm guessing.

  3. I woke up this morning to find the visibility less than 1.5 miles and the highest reading for US AQI of 176 which is just unhealthy.  I'm out over 10,000b in Air purifier costs and I have been running my AC nonstop since a month ago.  I'm bracing for this electric bill, which I expect to be the highest I've seen.  I'm running two additional electrical units (purifiers) 24/7.

It's affecting my life and my health.  I don't go swimming until the AQI becomes somewhat acceptable and today it looks as if that probably won't happen at all, not even at night.

I'm taking this seriously.  The pollution does not to me appear to be from the cars.  The AQI was high Sunday when the roads were deserted.

What is the main source of this poison air?

Haha Tony, I think the point is that this thread is about the OP and he is not married therefore he will have to go through the court process using a lawyer and interpreter.

Haha?  I am just stating a fact.  What's so funny about that?

I may also go the court route as it is much more final and accepted by both governments.  The lawyer quoted me 63,000b not inclusive of government fees.  That seems high to me.

Your case is for getting sole custody with a divorce it is a different procedure for an unmarried couple

For un uncontested divorce it can be done at an Ampure and custody can be sorted out at the same time

For an unmarried person it has to go through the Children's court with a recommendation from the Children's Welfare

That is correct.  I am listed as Father on the birth certificate and I have Ampur marriage documents. No upcountry wedding, just the ampur.

  6. Not one bite.  Pity.

I am doing exactly this as I have the same situation.  I found through a referral a British/Thai lawyer. I'm not sure if he is a Barrister in England but he is a lawyer here.

I just got an email from him this evening, to wit:

It seems a court appearance not require but the Laksi district office.

According to your case, I have to

    1. collect all necessary papers and more information from you
    2. prepare divorce agreement (TH/ENG)
    3. prepare Thai Will (TH/ENG)
    4. prepare POA (TH/ENG)
    5. certify 2 ,3 and 4. as notarial services attorney.
    6. accompany you to the district office to complete divorce registration and obtain child sole custody.

    anything else?

    Please suggest otherwise.

So with all the people here who said a court must become involved, they were wrong.  #4 is my addon so my X in America can come and get my son should I die.  POA is power of attorney, which I will give her for my health decisions as well.  English translations will be necessary to get things such as USA passport without 2nd parents signature.

I haven't gotten a cost yet, but it looks simple enough.

if I were this taxi driver and a cocky farang would say "<deleted> you" to me - i would beat the shit out of him regardless on any repercussion.

but he thought "thais are polite, they tend to forgive. so I can get away with this"

the moral obligation of any decent man is to prove him how wrong he is.

in my whole life i never ever let anyone who said "<deleted> you" to me run away without repercussions. and I never regretted for punishing them

Please substitute "If I were this criminal taxi driver ..." because violence is the first choice not the last for criminals and those with very low IQ.

I'm happy though, that you can empathize with this abhorrent mentality.

Sukhumvit Road, near Soi 19 right by the Westin Hotel around 4 AM. Got a nasty bruise on might right side from a kick from one of the "innocent" bystanders. Things can very quickly go south in Bangkok - probably any place any time.

Can't speak to Venezuela except I don't see a trip there in the near future.

I was only speaking to scumbag taxi drivers which might be 70 percent of them.  There are some decent taxi drivers.  Unfortunately you have to deal with scumbags before you find a decent one who will provide the service they are licensed to provide.

You seem to lump most Thais into the scumbag category.  If I took you at your word, I might never leave the condo.

Why? Practicality. I don't see it as my responsibility even to attempt to enforce Thai laws. I tried photographing a cabbie's ID exactly once when I wanted to go to Din Daeng and he wanted a flat fee, but I muffed it and knocked the ID placard off it's dashboard mount. The cabbie got out pointing his finger at me and demanding 500 baht compensation for damage to be paid immediately.

I insisted on having the Tourist Police assist me in resolving the issue when the local Tuk-Tuk enforcer and several Thai men surrounded me. The enforcer got me in a headlock and took me down to the sidewalk. I pretended to be unconscious. The Thai woman I was with paid the cabbie the 500 baht and everybody eventually left the scene not wanting to be responsible for an injured farang. Incidentally, one or two Thai men kicked me while I was down and pretending to be out. These people can get vicious, and "F*** You" up!

I'd be careful if I were you with your attitude. Just one of these "toothless criminals" could take you out, permanently. The best advice is to avoid confrontations at any cost. To do otherwise, especially with a cabbie, has been known to result in death.

If I hadn't been paying attention, I might have thought you were describing the conditions in Caracas Venezuela, not Bangkok.

I would rather confront a cobra than a taxi driver in such a situation. Best to quietly cut your losses, but you should at least get the cabbie to agree to a metered ride before getting into the taxi and quietly exit the taxi if they renege after rolling. Histrionics and insults have resulted in passenger fatalities.

Well, at least you have not entered the realm of the dreaded Thai apologist.  Why do we have to walk on rice paper for these criminals?  If enough foreigners were educated as to the scams used by these fine examples of Thai Society, it would be far less prevalent.

Take a picture of their license.  If you are scared, then get a snap of their license plate.

I am not here to be fleeced by toothless criminals.

Perhaps if you made a video of him it would go better?  I know this is escalating the situation and risky, but shining light on ugly creatures does cause them to go all squishy.  This is NOT something I would do but I find it to be a good deed when others do it.  :-)  Seriously, if a barrage of videos of taxis overcharging tourists hits the internet, things might be taken more seriously.  It's a coin toss though whether they just make videos illegal at that point.

Always shoot video or at the very least take a picture of their license.  Now should something happen you know who did it.

  12. That is a shocker.  I'm perplexed.  I'm here on an OA visa.  Which I extended to a 2-year stay by going in and out on the Visa 1 week before it expired.

I'm 100 percent sure, that I am not allowed to work in Thailand.  I don't work in Thailand.  I have been here more than 450 days now, and I doubt I owed tax on anything other than the VAT that gets stolen from me whenever I buy something.

    Please explain.

I live in a condo myself and a quiet parrot would be nice, as long as the neighbors does not get suspicious. Let me know if you find one.

The Norwegian blue is a dead parrot so I prefer a live one.

The African Senegal is a very quiet parrot.  They rarely screech.  While their stature is tiny, they have a big personality.  I also had African Greys and Amazons.  I wouldn't recommend either of them where noise could be an issue.

Why don't you go harrass lawyers and politicians.

Harrassing poor working class is so petty.

Who goes around harrassing the poorest 10% in the world?

Apparently must be deluded in the thinking that one these taxi drivers are poor. What evidence do you have the backs up this assertion? The only harassment the took place was the taxi driver who violated Ty Law by not wanting to use the meter. And it wasn't just that he didn't want to use the meter it was that he wanted to charge me 200 baht for 60 Baht ride.

In most parts of the world we call this fraud. We also call it lying, when the perpetrator tells me something's wrong with the meter or he doesn't have to use the meter.

I was taking a sick cat to the Animal Hospital and I didn't want to wait for an Uber so I figured I would grab a cab since it was a straight line from the hospital to my condo. But this is good news for Uber because I will normally never take a taxi. And why should I?

I can get an Uber and I know it's clean. I know the driver will be pleasant. I know the driver will not charge me anything extra that I didn't agree to, it's all handled buy the app. No money ever changes hands in the Uber or the grab.

But why don't you stand on the street corner and give away your money and do it for me and do it everyday then come to me and tell me what a good so you are that you can don't the thievery from the oppressed working man here in Thailand.

I'm just curious about one thing though, do you cancel your own children with that Stockholm syndrome like thinking?

Yes, I'm sure.  Uh huh.  So they have info on President Trump, but they are organizing sex seminars in Pattaya.  Yeah, sounds legitimate to me.
