  1. You should seriously check out the Nokia smart phones available. I've had the E61 and currently use the E70, both have Wifi, email, office docs, excellent web browsers, extremely stable platforms, there's load of extra add on softare you can get, speaker phones are excellent, and you can do all or most things a PDA can more smoothly.

I had the HP you mentioned, auful it was, sold it after a day.

Can the e61 or e70 categorize notes? I am using a palm which does it without having to buy any additional software. Puting my memos in categories is important for me to access my data quickly with minimal clicks. I used to have a pocket pc but I needed additional expensive software to do it for me (PhatNotes for pocket pc.)

    thanks

  2. Sorry, but I'm not a fan. His methods, which rely on a heavy dose of translation, in my opinion just slow down a students progress. Student can learn more rapidly without the translation. If you ever see his instruction videos, you might think to yourself, 'That's a good way for Thais to learn Thai along with a few English words.' He's a good businessman for sure,

Fair enough. I can see how his method of translation can't possibly appeal to all. Different teaching methods, different learning strategies, learning needs of student etc etc. However, I think it may help some of my students to at least start looking at newspaper headlines and have a crack at learning English outside the classroom.

I checked out the tv schedule on Outlook section of the Bangkokpost yesterday but it was missing!

Anyone know if this programme is still running?

    Thanks

  3. I remember that there used to be a programme on channel 3 at about 6.10am every morning with Andrew Biggs discussing newspaper headlines on the Bangkokpost and the Nation. It was great for students to learn new vocabulary. I woke up early this morning to watch it but it was not on. Is this programme no longer showing?

  4. I have had my TT&T ADSL since December 2005. It has been up and down many times. Sometimes they have "fixed" the problem direct online at 1103, sometimes they have sent out technicians.

Last time, about a month ago, two guys spent a couple of hours here and after that it has been working fine.

One time they said it was problem with my router, I needed another model. I went to Big C and got a new one within minutes.

Just talk nice and sweet with the lady in 1103 and she will try hard to help you. Shouting doesn't help!

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice. Eventually the technician did come (better late than never!). He seemed to have forgotten to leave a memo to say what was wrong (my housekeeper had to pass on his comments to me verbally). This is where confusions started. So to make sure I had the right diagnosis I went to Big C and the polite TT&T man phoned the head office for me to find out the problem. He said that the techician did not leave any memo about my problem with them either. The man then apologised and told me to leave my mobile phone number and he would get back to me at a suitable time the next day. The next day he phoned as promised explaining the problem (he said my LAN card was broken) and he also gave me the technician's mobile number in case. So I phoned the technician who said the same thing that the TT&T guy told me. He said that the problem was with my LAN card (not my router which the houskeeper pointed to when telling me the problem). Anyway he recommended that I took my PC to a computer shop to install a new LAN card. Before I set out to get it done, I decided to try to connect to the net one more time. Funnily enough it worked!!!

So much for the broken LAN card!!!!

Could it be that the technician was just stalling time so that TT&T could sort out their network problems?

I have another friend who said that TT&T said that the poor connnection could be something to do with viruses on her pc and not their service

  5. I have an ADSL connection with montly subscription with TTNT. I pay 590 a month and get 256/128 kbps. My internet has been down for 4 days now. I have tried calling the service center and they have told me it will take 2 days for a technician to fix my problem. I have a friend who lives downtown who says that hers has been down for 2 weeks! Has anyone else had a problem with TTNT recently?

When I asked the service center if I will be able to get a refund for the days I wasnt able to get a connection, she replied 'please give us more time to fix the problem' I have tried going to TTNT at Big C (2nd floor) but they just told me to phone the service '1103' which brings me back to square 1!!!

I signed an annual contract with them in March to get the free router. If I cancel my contract I will have to pay a fine for breaking the contract.

    Any suggestions?

  6. Of course you set a PIN number for when the phone is turned on,

and changed the Security PIN from its default of 12345,

to make it more difficult when someone puts a new SIM in??? :o

No like an idiot I didnt. I find it a hassle to enter pins. After calling DTAC they told me that I should:

    1. file a police report

    2. xerox the imei number on side of the box

    3. make a copy of my passport

and fax them all to dtac. Then within 24 hours they will block calls from other dtac sims.

That won't however, stop them slipping an orange or gsm sim in it and using it!

I may have to just accept that it is gone and opt to buy a cheaper palm device. It's possible the palm treo 650 pda phone may drop in price soon (that's if the palm treo 750 gets released in Thailand).

  7. I have used the compshop behind Overbrook Hospital. Don't know the name. They are OK and a few of them can speak a little bit English.

    Thanks!

Sounds like it could be Chiang Rai technocom. Is it the shop which sells laptops, printers , pocket pc phones and mp3 players? Also was it expensive to repair?

  8. My computer keeps on crashing. I had a technician have a look at it. He formatted the hard drive and reinstalled many programs. He did a pretty bad job because he didnt install the VGA drivers and leaves the job half done.

Does anyone have any recommendations of where I can take my desktop pc to have a reliable professional take a look at it?

  9. Hi I had a pocket pc phone which I dropped outside a pub by accident. Someone had picked it up and run off with it. I tried phoning it 5 times but the thief didnt pick up. It's a real shame because I bought it with my savings and it costed me 20,000 baht. In a panic I phoned dtac to cancel the sim. In a way I wish I hadn't done that. I should have given the user a day or so to use the phone so that when I got an itemised bill I could have checked which numbers were called and informed the police to investigate.

The charger for the phone itself costs about 3000 baht and the thief would have to be buy the charger in able to use the phone and probably wouldn't have the software to use it anyway!

Anyway what's done is done. I guess I will never see my phone again.

I plan to buy another one in the future. What steps can I take to increase my chances of retrieving it if I ever have it stolen?

Is it possible in Thailand for police to track down the location and movements of the phone if the user is making calls from the sim of a stolen phone?

  10. Yes I've heard the SE k750 has got excellent sound. My friend highly recommends it. Personally I like my motorola L6. It produces clear sound and is suitable for someone on a tight budget. I got mine for 6500 baht but that was a while ago. I think now they sell for a little over 4000 baht! An absolute bargain if you don't mind frying your brains with radiation. The L6 emits a lot of radiation compared to most phones but so do many of the motorola brands.

  11. Just so you don't feel ignored:

Shop around in either Pantip Plaza or Fortune Town, there's hundreds of places to compare.

http://memorytoday.com/ are at Fortune Town, their prices weren't too bad last time I checked and you can get delivery.

Thanks very much Silvero.I'll look in Pantip and/or Fortune Town tomorrow.I was looking for 2GB capacity.

Please let me know how much you end up paying for the 2GB SD card. I am looking for one too for my HP Ipaq hw6515 pocket pc. If you manage to pass the 1GB mini sd cards pls can you find out the approx price cos I have both an SD and mini SD slot in my pocket pc. It's amazing how much flash memory has dropped in price recently. I remember not that long ago that I paid 3000 baht for a 1GB SD card. I wish I had waited!

  12. If you can't find the right driver then you can reduce the screen resolution and that will lessen the jumpy screen appearance.

Thanks. I reduced the screen resolution. This has made it blurry but it did smooth out the scrolling! I have lost the driver disc which came with my pc. If I want to surf on the net for the correct driver what info about my pc do I need to know?

I have retrieved info wrote down about my PC which I wrote down several years ago. Is this info relevant? Sorry If this seems like a silly question. I am not good with technology stuff.

    BIOS Version / date

    American Megatrends.Inc version 07.00T 4/2/2001

That's the info for your motherboard. You need to know what kind of video card (the thing your screen plugs into) that you have. Did they supply you with any CDs when you bought the machine?

Yes they did. But like an idiot I lost them. A good friend of mine who works in IT has kindly offered to help me on Monday. Thanks for all your advice guys. I appreciate it!

  14. I have recently had my hard drive formatted and all the data and programs reinstalled. Almost everything seems to be working fine so far. The problem now is that when I am surfing webpages scrolling is extremely unsmooth. The screen sort of flickers and then stops only when I stop scrolling. It gives me a headache. It happens with both internet explorer and mozilla firefox. If I am using the nudge feature on msn the screen flashes for a while. I'm sure it can't be good for my eyes. What can I do to stop it?

  15. I reinstalled the program and after that i could uninstall it without any problem.

That's a good idea and forgot about it. Do as basjke mentions, that way all the original pieces will be back in place then use the Mcafee Viruscan removal tool I mentioned before.

    Thanks guys!

Unfortunately I have already hired a technician to format my drive C and reinstall everything(after backing up my data to dvd) . He says he will install everything including my pocket pc software too. I really hope my pocket pc data still syncs after that! Will let you know how it all goes. Thanks for your suggestions

  16. thanks. that didnt work either! will i have to format my hard drive and re-install everything? i have never done that before and would only consider doing it as a last resort. Seems to be some mcaffee files left on my pc which i cannot see. new antivirus progs wont install and say that it detects the presence of these files which will cause a conflict and therefore wont install. i am sending this post from my pocket pc phone because i am afraid viruses will infect my pc since i dont have any protection.

    thanks

  17. Probably due to some pieces of Mcafee are still in memory and it's associated file is locked not allowing removal. Try starting the computer in "Safe Mode", hitting the F8 key while the computer is starting up. Then try to do the uninstall.

I would think that would do it, I found McAfee a nightmare when we put it on our computer suite. If the safe mode fails you could try start/search/McAfee then make a list of any files it finds and delete them manually through explorer.

    HI

I tried that just now. I got the following error message: "cannot delete McABImp.dll. Access is denied. Make sure that the disk is not full/write protected & that the file is not currently in use"

This makes no sense to me as I have no disk inserted. What should I do next? Sorry. I am terrible with technical stuff. Would really appreciate any suggestions

I just had a similar prob. with a program called nbn-dm. I tried all the suggestions on this thread but they didn't work, so I did a Yahoo search of "delete nbn-dm" and found out that there were other people w/ the same problem. The solution for me was to download and install a freeware called "unlocker" from Webpage. Hope this helps.

Thanks. That seemed to let me delete the nbn-dm file. After deleting all the Mcafee files using 'search,' I installed Panda Antivirus + Antispyware. After installing it another error message came up! It read "To install Titanium, you must first uninstall 'McAfee VirusScan.' I thought this message was really weird because I had just deleted all the McAfee files I had searched for!

Is there a McAfee file/prog hidden somewhere? If so how can I access and delete it?

Now I have no antivirus active on my pc. I feel like I am having sex without a condom!

  19. I have last year's version of mcafee antivirus installed on my pc. Yesterday I tried uninstalling it before installing a newer version but it won't let me. It uninstalls say 95% of it then freezes! I have to do CTL ALT Delete and cancel running programs. When I turn on my PC it says that some of the Mcafee security center components are missing. I tried doing a system restore to a week ago and that doesnt help. I tried googling and they recommended I try clicking on my computer, drive C, double clicking on Mcafee folder, agent folder, app folder and removing the adf files, the finally uninstalling mcafee. That didnt work either! So I put all the adf files back by going through the recycle bin. What do I do next? Any other options I haven't thought of?

  20. Dear Forum,

I have an iPaq hw 6515. I was using it with DTAC as a phone but recently asked them to facilitate the email.

For a while it kept trying to connect all the time, and I was running up the bill. I phoned them and the lady mentioned MMS. Somehow I did something to the MMS and it stopped trying to connect. She did suggest I go to the DTAC shop.

Now I have been trying to make the PocketPC act as a modem for my laptop (HP zt3352ap with SP2), and it started this reconnecting business. I messed around and somehow stopped it. As yet I have only installed the softpaq and have not got it working yet.

I am not too keen on this haphazard approach. Is there anyone out there with more solid advice?

    Hope you are keeping well,

    All the Best

    Bill Z

Have you managed to use GPS on the hw6515? If so which software fits on the arkward 240 x240 screen?

  21. Hey Just need some inputs from people who use the O2. I am very satisfied with this pocket PC, but it is definately not for those who aren't savy with computers. Wish it connected to all wireless networks, but most pocket pcs dont have this function built in.

Anyways... My question is has anyone had any problems with their OS on the O2. I find it to be somewhat unstable even though I downloaded all the updates. It seems like it always switches into flight mode for some reason preventing me from receiving phone calls. Does anyone have this problem and know how to resolve it.

    Any input is appriciated.

Hi! I can see why you feel frustrated. Not being able to receive calls is terrible. How many 3rd party applications have you installed? Did it occur straight after installing a particular application? If so, that may be the culprit. My advice is to back up your important data and hard reset before reinstalling the applications one by one to see if the problem persists.

Do you still have the device under warantee?
