  1. Unfortunately I thing that this is only the top of the iceberg.

A friend of mine has a Thai girlfriend, and she told us that she was raped by some of the boys from school when she was 15.

She told us that this happens to most girls in Isan, but it is newer reported.

Of cause I only have her word for it, but have no reason not to believe her.

  2. A bit off topic, but still….

As I understand it, what is needed, is 400.000 / 800.000 in a Thai bank for the last 3 month before applying for renewal of a 1 year permit to stay.

When you have been granted that permit, there is nothing stopping you to withdraw that money again. ( as long as you remember to put it in again 3 month before your next extension.)

Also that the 400.000 ( married to a Thai) can come from anywhere, and does not necessarily have to come from oversees.

I realise that it might be different from office to office, and is therefore only asking if this is right according to the immigration law.

  3. While I am not in any ways trying to defend the schools in Thailand, as I have so often seen that the schools and the teachers do not live up to their responsibility to look after the students well enough, it might not be the fault of the school in this case.

I live very close to the school and have 2 daughters (12 and 14 years old). My daughters know about it, and have told me, that the 2 kids that drowned normally walk home by themselves after school time. (As most kids in my village do from our local school).
Only this day the kids felt like playing in the water, before going home.
Kids are naughty from time to time, especially at that age, and especially if they are normally allowed to do what they want, as most Thai kids seems to be.

If it is like that, and the parents expect the kids to walk home by themselves, then I do not think it is the responsibility of the school, to make sure that the students get home safe.

It is about time that the Thai schools and teachers start to live up to their responsibility, but also that the Thai parents start to do the same.
The biggest problem is that neither seems to know what safety means.

  4. Now let’s be fair… Before I got my yellow housebook I needed a needed a Confirmation Of Residence for my Driving license.
Went to Mukdahan immigration, and got one. No Fee.
Mukdahan immigration has never asked for any payment for anything, part from the official charges. I have never been asked to pay for 90 days reporting or anything else.
The only thing I have been asked is whether I would like a cop of coffee. ( And that is free as well ) If any help is needed with any forms, they will do anything to help you. ( No fee )
90 days reporting is usually done within 5 minutes, but it did take 10 minutes one time, and they apologised for that.

  5. You want proof that ghosts insists…. You have your proof right there!

It is a well-known fact that no Thai ewer do anything wrong.

Your sister-in-law's pal, is presumably Thai and therefor did nothing wrong.

If she fell in, she therefor have to have been pushed.

As there was nobody to be seen, she must have been pushed by a ghost

  6. My 14 year old daughter is planning to go to the temple with her friends on Friday, and then after that they come home and have a party where they drink some alcohol.

I have just told her, that she can do it, but in my mind she should know that she is faking.

n  Going to temple to show she is a good Buda-girl, and at the same time planning to go back and drink alcohol.

But I suppose that is 'The Thai way' of doing things.

  7. It was properly break failure that caused it.
If you go down a steep hill with a heavy bus in high gear, and try to stop it interlay with the breaks, any breaks will overheat, and not work for long.

So brake failure is the cause, but it was driver fault that caused the brake to fail.

These unnecessarily accidents will however newer stop before the government put a stop to letting substandard drivers drive the busses.

  8. I cannot help thinking how many of the injured, are permanent brain damaged due to not wearing helmet.

You can easy get server brain damaged without actually getting killed. But in many cases of that, might be worse that being killed ( in my mind).

I know that a helmet do not save you, if you go 100 Km/h into a lamppost, or get run over by a bus, But it does save you in many other cases.

40 Km./h and a small push from a car, or another motorbike might be enough to kill you if you do not where a helmet. That has been proven in many western countries.
In Denmark you would not be able to drive 5 Km without a helmet, without getting stopped, fined, and having to walk home.

I believe that the law about not riding in the back of a pickup should be enforced, But I also understand some of the hardship it might cause for some.

I can however not see any hardship caused by enforcing the law about helmet 100%.

And not only by setting up roadblocks. 90% of the motorbikes see the roadblock, and joust goes another way when it is set up.

Sad that their was loss of life. Baby/Child seats, come on parents, a few hundred baht could have and would have saved your baby. Baby in the backseat safe, again, come on parents!

If the car had stayed in the left lane, and not stayed in the overtaking lane for no reason, nothing would have happend.

It's gross income at the Immigration office here in Thailand. But when I apply for a non O-A or a non O visa at the embassy in Sweden it must be net income  " A pension income certificate (ORIGINAL ENGLISH ONLY) with monthly income of approximately 18,500 SEK per month and after tax (65,000 baht) "  And 18,500 SEK after tax will be more than 100k gross for a normal person

The same if I had applyed at the embassy in Denmark.

That is the reason that I did not apply there, but first after I came to Thailand.
