  1. A former colleague of mine at Mahidol just moved to Asheville about four months ago. Only this morning did he manage to get out a message on FB. Says the area does look like a hurricane hit it. No power, no food, no water. Says it will be a couple of weeks before everything is minimally functioning. Went out in the pickup truck he just bought to go to a nearby town to try and find food, water, and cigarettes. If you live in rural or even near rural areas, trucks are a necessity in case of emergencies like this. My wife keeps a Ford Ranger at her family house in Chaiyaphum, and it's already been used to keep supplies of water and food coming in during the floods there when things were cut off for a few days. Definitely don't want to be relying on EVs in that situation.
  2. Should read "how he (Walz) has misrepresented his military service."
  3. From my twitter/x feed, apparently the line on this woman from the Labour Party bunker is: She was elected on the party manifesto, not as an individual candidate and so should call for a by-election. Starmer and the rest of the greedy gift gobblers didn't break any rules, so it's okay. The Conservatives were worse--although they don't detail how so. Starmer and his benefits plunderers did it for their kids, so if it was for the kids, it's okay. What they took wasn't worth very much, so it's okay. Government should pay for their clothes anyway, so it's okay. Lammy looks better in Air Jordans.
  4. Term limits on all federal offices, agencies, and bureaus. People get 10 years maximum to work as public "servants" and then can go pay their own way.
  5. Neuter the dogs, their owners, and/or those feeding them on the streets.
  6. Alex Jones is paying $1 billion. The Roman church got off easy.
  7. The US will be better off when it finally looks and acts like Haiti.
  8. From my Twitter feed, it looks like western North Carolina, around Ashville, is the hardest hit. Now time to see if the Federal government is as indifferent as it was in East Palestine, OH, and Maui, where it mobilized lots of agencies, made lots of proclamations, activated emergency services, and still managed to leave people homeless, wiped out, and without sufficient compensation.
  9. Yea, this is just sleazy as all get out. Shameless hucksterism.
  10. Yes, I remember that, too.
  11. I thought yahoo mail sent an otp message to your phone.
  12. Shins were in charge in 2011. There was flooding after that, of course, but nothing on the scale of 2011 or what we see today, when the Shins are once again back in charge of flood prevention.
  13. Is this for US Citizen Services? It says "visa scheduling" on the website. That's for non-citizens.
  14. Easily done. The crosswalk on Phutthamonthon 3 which is constantly ignored is five meters from the police station.
  15. Once again, the Shins have mismanaged flood prevention.
  16. Well, I'm just going to set up a camera at a couple of pedestrian crosswalks and see how much I get.
  17. I don't remember this program being promised as something to inject public stimulus money into the hands of banks
  18. Would this explain the shift from digital wallet to cash deposit? It allows the banks to come in and take the money promised to the indigent?
  19. Unless you're Japanese. Then, they kill you.
  20. BTW, were I living in the US, I would have been inclined to vote for Biden. A summary of how I see Biden/Trump. With Harris now injected. Industrial policy: Biden has done well here. Reshoring and increasing industry where Trump utterly failed to complete his promises. (But that isn't making my dollar stronger.) Medical expenses: Biden did well capping prices for medicine. But there should have been Medicare for all. And non-citizens should not be eligible for any medical program or subsidy at all. (But that isn't making my dollar stronger.) Inflation: Biden has brought the inflation rate back down. But he and Trump with their Covid spending both were responsible for the spike in the first place. Biden has also flooded the country with illegal labor to cut wages and bring down inflation. Not to mention draining the strategic oil reserve. (But this only made my dollar marginally stronger.) The Border: a catastrophe. And everybody knows it. Overwhelming the country with 3-4 million border crossers is the equivalent of a cultural neutron bomb. And spending money on them has deepened the deficit. (This made my dollar weaker.) Ukraine and Israel: I support both countries and think Biden has acted correctly to back both of them, although I fear Harris is a terrorist appeaser. (But this isn't making my dollar stronger.) Taiwan: I think that neither Biden-Harris or Trump will do a thing to defend Taiwan or the Philippines. Both fear China openly. Trump is probably worse about buckling under to Xi. (This marginally weakens my dollar.) Interest rate policy: Biden-Harris cut rates prematurely to juice the economy with a sugar high. QE is next. (THIS is destroying my dollar.)
  21. Hysteria on your part. Grasping for the peso? Laughable. https://www.marketwatch.com/investing/index/dxy/charts
  22. Finally, the verdict is in. For me. I've always stated that the one factor determining my vote was dollar devaluation. Now that Biden-Harris has devalued my retirement funds coming into Thailand by almost 10 percent, the decision is clear. I will vote against Harris. No matter who. Not matter what. Her policies are taking money out of my pocket.
  23. Every time the Shins take power, we get catastrophic floods. The gods are telling us something.
