  1. They might bite me. But they won't kill me.
  2. If the answer is requiring Thais and other people to get a PhD in dog ownership, you're talking about a lost cause. Get rid of these dogs. If somebody wants a dog, there are plenty of other varieties that are companionable, protective, and above all safe from killing random strangers. Pit bulls need to be eradicated. There is no purpose in keeping them out there as a threat to the general public.
  3. You mean how much longer it will remain at this early stage of intimidation before going full force???
  4. The Civil Service was/is largely loyal to Prayuth. PTP now rewarding friends and punishing enemies???
  5. I do. Things priced in baht were much lower, including my rent (12 percent lower), electricity (10 percent lower), food (30 percent lower). If we're going to get 2019/2020 exchange rates, we need to get those years' prices for housing, utilities, and food as well.
  6. Pathumthani turned into a giant lake back in 2011
  7. Hong Kong Mandarin language film with subs. Starring Grace Chang. Asian women dominated the screen in certain markets.
  8. This film was one of the breakthrough events in cinema for Asian women in the 1950s. Also take a look at France Nuyen in South Pacific, Yoko Tani in The Wind Cannot Read, Li Lihua in China Doll, and of course Nancy Kwan in Suzie Wong. Before them all was Anna May Wong in the 1920s
  9. So, are they going to pay back the money it cost? If not, why not?
  10. Complexity, as we all know, especially because it is something we as Americans realize, because it is part of who we are and what we have fought for and have seen in all its joyous affirmations, is something that is as we acknowledge, complex.
  11. Yep. As soon as they took up the reins of government.
  12. I grew up in Dallas and lived there some years off and on until I came to Thailand in 2010. Your description, I think, is pretty accurate. It's 45 minutes to "anything" by car. Nobody walks. Few people even spend time in their backyards. Almost nobody does their own yard work, mowing, raking leaves, picking up acorns, or any other landscaping. People in Texas, as a result, have become some of the softest bunch in the US. Growing up, I only got an a/c window unit in our house when I was about 6 or 7--1961 or thereabouts. Didn't notice it was so hot, because you just lived with it. Too, people don't suffer from heat so much if they don't overeat and become overweight. Acclimatization, diet, exercise, and non-sedentary lifestyle makes all the difference.
  13. When the Shins are in power, Thailand seems to get catastrophic floods.
  14. Hezbollah used cell phones and the Israelis blew up their cell phones. Hezbollah shifted to pagers, and the Israelis blew up all their pagers. Hezbollah then moved to walkie-talkies, so Israel blew up their walkie talkies. As a result, Hezbollah decided on in person meetings. But the Israelis blew that up too. https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/lebanon-explosions-hezbollah-israel-09-20-24-intl-hnk/index.html
  15. The more I read of this counterterrorism operation, the more I'm impressed. The Israelis set up the manufacture of pagers in Hungary, which were then sold to the Hezzies. In effect, the Hezzies not only had their lower parts blasted away, they paid Israel for the exploding devices used against them. That sort of efficient production is impressive. Israel may have made a financial profit off the entire incident.
  16. At least half of the usual suspects are not Americans.
  17. That reads like Kamala Harris said it.
  18. Please, please find me a bookie where I can bet against this.
  19. Great man and a visionary in the field of television. Danger Man and The Prisoner.
  20. When I first came to Thailand over 14 years ago, my employer required me to use SCB. It worked well. Plenty of ATMs, branch offices, and a reliable online website. All three of those are either now diminished or, in the case of the website, no longer in existence. I had few security concerns back then. And it seems to me, just reading headlines that phone apps have made banking scams, theft, and disruptions much, much more likely than before. Why was all this "convenience" pushed on to us? I'd much rather dial back on the ease of use to a system with more safeguards. The phone apps are theft-in-waiting. And now with this "virtual bank" I wonder if my money will be regarded as "virtual currency" when it disappears into some scamsters pockets with no effective recourse to regaining it.
  21. Please state precisely what you mean by that.
  22. Good and precise criticism. The Thai bank governor doesn't want to do anything. His policy is sit, wait, and watch the house burn down.
  23. They especially should if they are forcing you to use phone apps by discontinuing relatively secure online transactions, closing branch offices, and reducing ATMs. I'm talking about you, SCB.
  24. New meaning for "lifelong battery guarantee."
