The police clearance has to be done in your home country to apply for a OA visa. You are not a legal resident of Thailand.

my HOME country is Thailand and has been for 10years !!!   There would not be any record of me living there now !!!  That would be pointless and impossible .

Yes, The O-A visa applied for in ones home country BEFORE coming to live in Thailand is quite appropriate such that the Thai authorities then know if anyone wanting to enter the country has a criminal record .    I don't see how the logic of applying for that now in the country one lived in before residing in Thailand , especially after 10 years living here !!!

Anyway , if you read the requirement , it says it can be from your country of "residence"  ie here !!!

  2. I'm about to go out of the country by necessity to get my personal effects / furniture etc packed and shipped from a house I sold in France in January this year .  Everything including my vehicle I had to put in storage at the time because of limited time available in France at the time and I was scheduled to go back and do this in May !! but then Covid happened !!!   I been advised my furniture and vehicle etc has to be moved otherwise it will be auctioned off so I have no choice but to go out and arrange shipment etc .

My worry is that as a Non Immigrant O-A (retiree) visa holder with valid extension of stay to April next year , I am going to run into problems getting back in November when my shipment due to arrive here and I have to be here to receive it !!!

I don't have a property or anywhere to stay in Europe or outside Thailand - my home is here along with my partner , my boat, my car and 3 properties I own !!!  Even the newly issued information on foreign property owners being allowed back will defeat me because I don't currently have 3M baht in a bank account although I can show I did transfer a lot more than that to purchase properties !!!   I , like most retirees keep the required 800,000 baht on deposit to cover renewal of the extension but who on earth keeps 3M baht in deposit or other account ???

This situation promulgated by the Government for people like myself is MAD and very counter-productive !!!   If there is not a change of heart very soon , I and probably many like me , will start to look at the alternative countries to live in - those that are a bit more welcoming and appreciative of the money , business , employment of people and services we bring !!

If I get stuck outside Thailand unable to return to my home , I shall none to pleased !!!!

  3. simple question !!   Can I re-enter Thailand on my Non O-A retirement (valid extension of stay ) with re-entry permit ???

Reason I ask is that when one googles the question and is referred to Thai Embassy website it does state that quote :

Holders of Non-Immigrant OA and OX Visa

BUT in the paragraph below that is categorizes / classifies that as quote :

    • Foreigners who are holding non-immigrant O visas who are spouses, parents or children of Thai nationals.

It does not mention "retirees"  ??????

I really hope it does include "retirees"  as I have my flight and everything to go out booked and I was given to understand that my class of visa (retiree) was eligible !!!

  4. Thanks for all the advice and information to date .   I can feel the "clunk" on the shift lever and it's definitely there after braking and coming to a stop keeping foot on the brake and then immediately moving off .Vehicle has been on the lift and checked out - only the sliding yoke was lacking grease .  When it stops raining will investigate further - check UJ's / Try with handbrake on etc and see if can pinpoint problem , also with 2nd person on outside to listen .

  5. Vehicle is 15 years old with 210,000 km on the clock and always farang owned and serviced previously by Toyota .  Full history with Toyota and vehicle is immaculate for year / well maintained  .

I now use an english mechanic as not impressed by Toyota practices and prices !   I have the workshop manual and follow that !!!

Transmission oil checked when running and is fine , no discoloration or any burning smells .   Just greased up the sliding yoke on  propshaft and marginally improved things but the "clunk" still there .

  6. Does anyone have information on obtaining a service exchange/reconditioned box ??

I have some some "clunking" / slight jolt from the box when stopping or starting off and I think there may be excessive end play in the gears . It is not recommend to try and repair these ones-self or by local garage as needs specialist auto transmission company/workshop to do and best to exchange for a reconditioned box.

I would prefer NOT dealing with Toyota directly as their prices are ridiculously high but there must be companies here that do Auto Transmission repairs / exchange boxes ??

  7. I have an O/A retirement visa (expires April 2021) and have all the medical certificates etc etc and now reading that non O/A retirees are able to return to Thailand , I have the following questions which I need to resolve before I even decide to go out of Thailand !!

I need to go out , return to France and get my furniture/effects out of storage and shipped to Thailand ( costing me a fortune in rental ) plus get my van out of storage there and once furniture shipped , drive through France, Spain to Portugal (Lisbon) to my boat and stay for a short period ( do some maintenance) before attempting to return to my home here in Thailand .(I no longer have a residence in the EU so am keen to get all sorted before UK leaves EU and then visas become an issue )

I have just been to Jomtien Immigration to ask about the aforementioned and if they are doing re-entry visa in order to keep my retirement extension valid .   They had no idea and said it was difficult and it was the government that need to be consulted !!!!( scratch my head !!)

    Can anyone advise :

    1) Is Suvarnabhumi Immigration doing re-entry visas ( normally middle departure gate before immigration) ??

    2) How difficult it might be with me being a UK national living in Thailand , dealing with the Thai Embassy in Lisbon getting all the documents I need to return ???

    3) I have read that one may return on a "semi commercial" flight and not necessarily on e arranged by Thai Embassy/Government ? Can anyone advise further on these type of flights and how easy to obtain ?? ie just book on the airlines website ???

  8. I would agree the writer that long term / retired expats with residence here in Thailand should be treated differently  to tourists ( NOT classed as 1 year tourists !!)  providing we have residence , medical policies and Covid cover plus the 800,000 baht in the bank then we should be given some leniancy to go out of the counrty / return without all the hoops that tourists should and must jump through !  Can we not be trusted to self isolate ??  I would not mind even having to wear a GPS tracker tag if they want to check I stay at home !!   Get tested after 3 days - yes why not !!  Other countries adopt self isolation with a fine if you break it !!   There are many ways the government could make things easier for long term residents - especially as they want us to support the economy now !!  We buy things , employ people , give out food to the needy so come government give us a break !!!

  9. My IDP expired in May so decided to renew (just before the Covid pandemic shut down )  .I obtained the Residence Certificate and had all the documents but when I went to Chonburi they informed me they had just stopped issuing licenses and to come back when they resumed !!   I did so today but because a)my residence certificate date had passed the 1 month validity they said I needed a new one !!  I said I had already paid for that and had all the correct documents when I attended before and it was not my fault that they were unable to issue the new IDP !! Also they said I would have to make an appointment/reservation online via DLT website or App .

I will now have to spent the best part of a morning or afternoon going to immigration , applying and paying again for another residence certificate then wait the normal 2 or 3 hours and come back to obtain same .   I just tried to find out where I book an appointment / reservation online but there is NIL / NOTHING /ZILCH about booking an appoinment on the DLT Chonburi Website (only booking for car inspection !!)  . I can find NOTHING when doing a search for IDP / License booking for DLT !!!

Is Thailand really in the 21st Century ???   Can't believe that Thailand can not intitute all this licence / plate / insurance / tax in to a government online portal where you enter your details / application and get the necessary documents by email or post !!!  They just love wasting people's time !!

Anybody know where to find the online booking / reservation system for DLT IDP application ????   ( Even in this forum it is still saying that DLT are not issuing licenses due to Covid - but that is NOT the case as the issue of licenses has resumed although by appointment )
