many thanks for the information so far but I am still unsure of exactly how high I might construct a fence adjacent to a 1 mtr high boundary wall between both another house at the rear and a garage / washroom erected by house owner on one side of my property .  Both are right up to the boundary on their side and although I have a 2 mtr wide walkway between my property and the boundary , I do not want to look out of my windows into a neighbours property as well as not having them looking into my windows!

Both my neighbours have constructed overhangs/roofs to their walkways which are right up to the boundary .    I want to put a cement board fence on galvanized posts to about 2.3 mtrs height to give my property some privacy .

  2. Ok so as an expat / foreigner living in Thailand , one is included in the vaccination programme and now one can register by an App to get vaccinated !!  Brilliant !!  But does this App give one a choice of vaccines ??   If only the Sinovac then totally unsuitable for myself as I am over 70 .  The Prime minister had the Astra Zenica one as Sinovac unsuitable for him !!

Complete waste of time unless the App specifies different vaccines for different categories of people and advises / informs which one to choose !!

  3. Regarding "any" vaccine that Thailand tries to impose on the general public , can the DP and Health Minister Anutin provide a)  government medical approval of the vaccine in the country of origin  ( as far as I know Sinovac is not yet approved in China ??)   and b)  WHO approval  !!.

If both those are available and sighted / confirmed , then yes I would be happy to take any of those but if not I will stick to a western one ,probably the Astra Zenica one or Moderna when available privately .

I think foreigners are unlikely to be included in any program in Thailand.  I tried to register with Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok as they are inviting requests to be notified when a vaccine is available. The response I got was extraordinary, telling me how they care for all Nationalities then saying I cant register without a Thai ID.

    "Greetings from Bumrungrad International Hospital.
Taking care of our patients during the covid regardless of their nationalities is our utmost priority.
Please be advised that the current COVID-19 vaccination booking with the Office of Health BMA requires a Thai ID number. As of now, Bumrungrad International Hospital is yet to receive the supplies of COVID-19 vaccines. "

seems a bit discriminatory coming from an "international" hospital !!!

Pacific Cross offers several different plans that qualify for the O-A visa.  The insurance offered thru Thaivisa is Pacific Cross too..

As others have mentioned they will exclude preexisting conditions.  If you are relatively healthy that should not be an issue though.

Our insurance covers up to 5 million baht per incident, not year.  It covers inpatient and outpatient with no deductible.  My wife is 70.  She has 4 exclusions.  Her premium is a little over 100k baht/year.  I still think it is worth it because she will be covered for anything accidental or major health issues like cancer, heart attack, stroke, etc.

I should note that Pacific Cross will increase your premium based on your BMI level too, up to 40% more.

I have my Health / Covid insurance with Pacific Cross and all in compliance with obtaining my O-A visa and CofE when coming back into Thailand last October .   Just turned 70 , two pre-existing conditions but annual medical shows in perfect health .   Premiums are reasonable ,especially as compared with what you would pay in Europe and if you agree to good excess / deductible , this also reduces the premiums but just keep a lump sum in the bank/invested to cover that and the unexpected !!

  6. I have a 2006 Toyota Vigo and best investment I ever made (special "Elegance" model ).   I decided to get an inspection and service by Toyota when I bought it as was in a hurry to get it reliably serviced for use and was not that familiar with anyone private then. They advised I needed a new steering rack and would have to come from Japan at 27,000 baht !   I was daft enough to agree but afterwards I started to check out Toyota parts / suppliers / mechanics and what I found  made my mind up not to use a Toyota dealer / service point ever again !!

I later had an issue with what I thought was a drive shaft / differential problem and asked Toyota to investigate . They told be I would need a complete new differential and axle at some astranomical  price so I took the vehicle away and told them I would think about it .   Turns out Toyota mechanics are not sufficiently experienced to dismantle a diff and order/fit the internal part as it's easier for them to order the whole unit !  My mechanic diagnosed it as a bearing in the diff and replaced it same day for 2000 baht .  No problem since then .

Most people don't realise that Toyota or any motor vehicle is assembled with parts from OEM suppliers (original equipment suppliers ) and there are many manufacturers of parts ,since if part not available at one then can be obtained at another - all OEM parts to the vehicle manufacturers standard and quality . The steering rack I had fitted was later found available in Bangkok ( OEM ) at 9000 baht !!

Another thing I found amazing was that when I went in to arrange a service with the Toyota Workshop Manual in hand , with a list of what was to be done , all the "girls" at the desks had no idea what I was talking about ( it was like talking to a wall ) and the mechanic they called didn't like the fact I had a workshop manual  .Seems like if you are a complete village idiot with no knowledge of cars / mechanics they are quite happy to fall over backwards and offer you a chair and some paper to "just sign here "  and you never get to know what they are supposed to do or have done ( it's a secret !!) and you are happy to sip coffee in a waiting room and be overjoyed that your car comes back cleaned !!

So it is important to check / order parts that are OEM in order to get the quality of the original and also to shop around .  I now buy my parts online and have a reputable mechanic fit them .   It can save you a fortune !!

Looks like the beach area was not sterilized enough in the last make over, so they are coming back to finish the job.......What's left of the big trees could very well be headed for the chopping block.....But boy do they love palm trees........Looks like they will be planted by the thousands..........

They plant Palm trees absolutely everywhere....And I think they pretty much hate all other trees.....

don't mention Palm Trees ! I positively hate them and just had a huge struggle even with a 4ton Kubota to rid my garden of the damn things .  Previous owner planted them close to the house and perimeter wall and what a job to remove the roots !! They went everywhere , under the house , under the wall , around pipes !!  There are other trees and methods of shade .

They should better start to test thais before they come back to Thailand.

Almost every day, people enter quarantine being infected.

daft isn't it ! farang has be tested before boarding but not Thai !!!   Yes, spread it around on the plane !!

  9. I hate to think what the state of Sukhumvit will be like between Pattaya and Sattahip if we get heavy rain !!  It's going to be a mud bath  !!! It will just be one long sea of mud with the contractors unable to get anything finished as they will be bailing out most of the time !   Congestion is crazy right now so it can only get worse . Can't understand why they don't just concentrate on doing one section at a time and finish that before going on to the next .  Can't wait to see how Pattaya's new drainage system works !!

  10. Police clearance (from a section inside police hospital Bangkok )  requires one to have a letter either from employer , Immigration or other official source , in Thai ,  before they will even consider any request !!!   Normally the place is full of Thai's obtaining clearance for employment with a letter from their employer .

If he can prove the 800k baht has been in the account for a long time immigration will normally accept it without proof it came from abroad.

He will need to move the 800k baht into a standard savings or fixed term account. Immigration will not accept a money market fund.

Not quite correct . One can also have the money in a foreign currency deposit account like I do and that has been accepted by Immigration for the last 10 years !!

Sorry, I'm not taking the Chinese vaccine ever.  I don't really trust their ability to provide a safe and reliable vaccine.  I'll wait for one that has been produced by a western country.

Sinovac Chinese vaccine not recommended for anyone over 50 , thats why PM did not have it !!  That's why I won't be having it !
