All true (corruption, poor planning, generalized incompetence and on and on), BUT shouldn't we at least encourage the triers?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.  I used to tell my staff in Canberra: If you're not making mistakes, you're not doing anything useful.

People not doing anything useful (no initiative) is, in my experience, a Thai specialty. We need to help move things forward. Simply tipping shit on all & every initiative is no use to anyone.

" If you're not making mistakes, you're not doing anything useful."

That's very true. Unfortunately the Thai expression 'Pit ben Kru', which has always seemed to me to be very wise, Sadly, Thais think that making a mistake represents a loss of face so they will go to extraordinary lengths to pretend they don't make any. Part of their Chinese cultural  legacy, though China appears less vulnerable to the vanity more recently.

I thought that the "Re-enactments of the Crimes" were also [supposed to have been] stopped  -  but I see that they're still continuing.

Correct. Even the RTP seem to take no notice of Prayuth. I see the RTP road-blocks for checking pororbor and driving licenses haven't stopped as he instructed, and most don't have a senior officer present as he also instructed. The guy's a clownshow and it seems that few people take any notice of him.

  3. A rare good thing from the RTP. It's always been a deeply unjust process anyway, even if the perpetrator is guilty. This is just a showcase for publicity hungry (and probably deeply corrupt) cops wanting their 15 minutes of fame. Vide the top cop who is attracted to press cameras as a fly to a cowpat. Mr Pai Nai, so-called because he is everywhere a press audience gathers and will go anywhere to get his face in the papers or on the TV.

Courts should decide innocence ore guilt, not the court of public opinion. Even Thai courts are better then nothing, if only just.

Is this a new scam......don't people check their accounts after deposits are made.....?

Always insist on a counting machine or open, visible manual counting, to check money when large deposits are made......

Quite right. Never use ADM's. Always check the passbook and receipt. Use online banking where possible and check check check. Dishonesty is everywhere and everyone by now knows what banks are. And, this is a undeveloped or developing country where the risks are always amplified.

I have been working with a lot of Thai Engineers and they are good in the math skills but they have a hard time to think out of the box, as all is memorized to the nano. If Thai Education system would be upgraded and learn from abroad, I don't see any reason why the Chinese should build the high-speed rail. The only exemption will be that all will go into contracts on contracts to another one who might have a brother who can do the consultancy. If the government actually believe the education system is on International level, why ask the Chinese?

    1. Forget about High-speed train for now

    2. Forget about sub-marine for now

    3. Forget to make as a family paradise for now

    4. Concentrate on domestic problems

    5. Long term plan for tourism

    6. Reduce school time and homework, let kid be kids

7.Enforce traffic rules with severe fines

    8. Pull back encroached land which belong to Thailand

    9. No more animal shows where it suffers

    10. regulated fishing

    11. Effective food safety board

    12. Effective labor law

    13. Certification of wearing orange rope

    14. Equalize local and farang prices

    15. Omg, still a lot more.

Ah the dreams of a dreamer. If dreams were horses then beggars would ride.

There really isn't any point in repeating the failings of the Thai education system, nobody's listening and it isn't goinng to change. Thailand will wake up too late when they've been left behind.

Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted is something of a speciality of Thais, it's an education and critical thinking thing. Again.

with 20 coups over the last 80 years i doubt there would have been much chance she would be in power now no matter how smart she is. smart or dumb i think we can agree she was simply a puppet controlled from dubai.

As opposed to being a puppet controlled by the feudal barons in Bangkok and their totem.

I believe she is a very smart woman but put into a position of power surrounded by corruption. Her biggest problem was she was to nice of a person, not ruthless enough to control the corruption surrounding her. Her heart was in the right place to try and help the poor. The problem today is that the people still like her and know she tried to help them. As we see by Deputy Prime Ministers remark that it was OK to seize Yingluck's assets, even before the courts decide if she's guilty or not only goes to show that they still fear the woman and want to destroy the family. I don't care what anyone says but my heart goes out to this woman

Seems like a pretty good assessment.

The headline for this topic is misleading. Thai did not win an award for being the best "Economy Class Airline", they won for having the best Economy Class "Cabin". According to the millions of survey results Skytrax had, people thought that the Economy section of Thai Air flights was better than the Economy sections of other airlines.

The award for "Best Economy Airline" (i.e. the best of the cheapest airlines) went to AirAsia.

Thai media reporting is often completely at variance with the facts, as you are suggesting. One of the most frequent instances is the reporting on so-called 'Olympiads', where Thai students are claimed to get mutliple 'gold medals'. You probably assume that a gold medal is awarded to the winner of a competition, but this is where the deception is made. In order to get a 'gold medal', all you have to do is score 29 points out of a possible 42, which is 69%. Of course this is never detailed in Thai press reports, where the misconception that a Thai student was a winner is deceitfully allowed to persist. And the questions and marking process is never publicised, so it could be ridiculously easy questions answwered by a multiple-choice - who's to know? While the organisers of the Ólympiad'- which might be comprised of a selected and small number of nations) might publish details, the Thai press sure as hell doesn't.

So it's quite possible that if there are 23 contestants in a (for example) maths or physics 'Olympiad', then 23 gold medals would be awarded.

    Tricky.

    And deceitful.

And stupid (or so it seems to me).

More Thai exceptionalism implied where there is none, everyone knows what the standard of Thai education is like.

And here we are again with allegations of deceit. According to this poster, THAI wasn't rated as  the 'world's best economy airline' as reported at all, it had the 'best economy class cabin. which is probably entirely subjective anyway. Not the same thing at all, but the Thai press appeal to the vanity of a largely stupid and uneducated population who don't appear to know any better, thus perpetuating the ridiculous amount of propaganda this nation is subject to and increasing the vanity, arrogance and deception of the nation. As if there wasn't more than enough of all of those things already.

    Wake up Thailand.

Your lack of comprehension is not my responsibility.

If you can muster the wherewithal to make a genuine point beyond the usual trolling...then I will respond.

Oh dear. You write gibberish and then blame the reader because it's gibberish.

    Trolling.... LOL.

Respond...?  LOL. No, please don't. Pretty please. Pretty please with a cherry on. Please don't.

I would never be in her position ...so your hypothetical is pointless.

But, yes! ...if you were openly lying and manoeuvring to hide your assets because you are facing criminal charges then it means you are a dishonest scam artist.

A 'self preservation defence' for your 'lying and manoeuvring' is neither here nor there.

Sorry mate. Too many non-sequiturs. It's like trying to knit a bowl of spaghetti I imagine. A bowl of illiterate spaghetti.

If she was smart she would still be in power ;) ...all this proves is that she is a thoroughly dishonest scam artist!

So you'd stand by the front door, hand it all over and them make them a nice cup of tea would you? I certainly wouldn't. I must be a dishonest scam artist I suppose.

I would love to see China claim Thailand as it did with Tibet, Hong Kong and Taiwan. China is unstoppable at this point. :stoner:

I agree, so long as they give me 10 days warning. The Thais can threaten to kick Chia's a$$ (like they usually do with other countries) and be all-around pains, but I am not so brave. I'll run.

So you think she's the winner?

You think the whole matter is now closed?

Perhaps she was 'told' what to do with her assets long ago. In fact who would be surprised if she wasn't 'told' or at least encouraged to move all assets / wealth out of her own name years ago.

Does it all mean the legal execution office is a failure? No, they went through the motions as required by aligned laws and regulations.

She's still under investigation for serious dereliction of duty, many of her defense witnesses have now made an appearance and spoken, and not one of them has provided any real evidence to refute that she committed serious dereliction of duty. 'But she's really a nice girl' has become rather boring and shows the lack of intelligence and capability and lack of morals of the cohorts she surrounded herself with (she claims she selected them, but...).

Jail possibly looms. And where is her convicted highly corrupt brother? Why her family not support her at the recent temple event?

Bottom line - which family member is next to be thrown under the bus?

Bottom line - she has no assets, so where does the money to support her (self claimed) 2million baht monthly living expenses come from? It doesn't magically drop from the sky. The source should be investigated.

Huh? Could I please have half a pound of whatever it is you've been smoking?

"You have a weird view on democracy. People in the opposition have been elected also and they make sure the government is accountable for everything they choose to do.

Being elected is not a free card to do whatever you feel like doing.  You go to your constituency with a program of actions you propose need to be taken care of.
If you neglect to bring any of them to full fruition, you probably won't get elected next time and in the worst case will have many protests against your government or another coup."

So you didn't notice the word 'try' then...

"Democracy in Thailand is very much supported by their people, if they don't like what is happening, they hit the streets, occupy airports, but they come out and demand actions from the government."

That's an educational and cultural thing. Thais haven't learned about laws yet, as anyone driving on their roads will tell you.

"In the west, any public protests against governments in power are deemed illegal or are squashed by the police. And that is without any junta in power, but it is even worse, the west don't even care anymore about politics. the protests that draw a lot of people and are allowed to happen are those that don't target governments."

Don't agree. It might be true in some countries, but not all.
