interested to know what makes up the other 45%... bad samong?
Be interesting to see how many were single vehicle accidents?
Maybe many of the 45% could be attributed to culpable driving from the other 65%....

I returned to the UK in June last year. Returned to Worcester rather than my home town Hereford. My GP surgery in Hereford (hadn't been there for about 10 years) said I'd have to register with a GP in Worcester (gave them the details of my old surgery in Hereford). Found a surgery in Worcester, registered, no questions, no problems.
I also gave the Worcester surgery the details of Bumrungrad Hospital so they could get my records re: a heart condition.Subsequently got my yearly prescription and a check-up on my elbow at the hospital.
Just sayin', for anyone thinking of doing the same thing.I arrived in the UK 20th December after about 5 months away.
I had been removed from the UK doctors list.
My brother had said that I was overseas.
Return unknown.
So they took me off.
All fixed now.
But looks like a tightening up of the system.

Suggest reading the other thread on this story.
Totally not correct.
See other posts on this gentleman.
Hopefully an update in a couple of days.
I was at the station when he was dropped there.
Spoke to him.
The police did an excellent job of assisting him.
Especially the lady on the front desk.
Hopefully he is being looked after now.

...why on earth report she sells pork on a stick...totally irrelevant..the mere fact you say she is a 22 year old woman is ample...I hope she recovers..something you didn't bother to mention.
This is Thailand.
Surprised it doesn't mention other stuff like long hair, dark skinned, single....

Did they find out who had access to his pension money or ATM card ?
My friend John is a volunteer translator there.
Possible that he can update the info for us.
It's sad in many ways.
But he is hopeful back to the UK for the new year...

"Earlier in the week it was claimed online that the man had been at Pattaya police station for 3 to 4 days.
The police had given him a blue towel to protect his modesty".
I'm not going to invoke the RTP wrath, but yes I was there, and the above is pure <deleted>.
He was clothed.
shirt, shorts, sand shoes.
walking stick.
looked disheveled.
my guess is he actually appeared day 18.
Wednesday.
I may have said before 19th.
I got him a bottle of water and was chatting with him some time before the police assistance.

Suppose this is the part that possibly nobody can fill in.
I had been sat in the front area since 9am.
He appeared around 10am.
The helpful police lady I mentioned previously went to ask him if he was ok.
I had been chatting with him about 15 minutes before the police took over.
The thai lady mentioned obviously knows him.
He was a bit disoriented and distressed, but had a bag with ID and passport etc.
No residence slip in the passport as I saw his stuff..
He was waving it around looking for someone to help him.
(He thought it was immigration, not the police station).
I would have to guess, but yes it looks like he was dropped off and left there.
Someone must have contacted the thai lady who knew him, saying that he was at the police station..
It's a bit of a who dunnit.!!
Sorry I cant add anything else.
Good luck to him..????????????

Who dropped him off at the police station? An evil thai wife or girlfriend seems to be the most popular conspiracy theory amongst the posting fraternity.
The lady who came, thai and from a bar.
She spoke good English.
Knew him.
Knew his situation.
She said that he cannot keep staying with friends.
And yes it was said that his visa/extension was out.
And the "friend" had dropped him at the police station that morning, saying that they would help him.
The police...
If I had not been sat waiting I would not have chatted to him.
The police were really good and concerned.
Especially the police lady in the photo.
He was happy to be put on a plane he said.
I think he knew that his run was over in the Land of Smiles.
They were contacting the embassy and working on keeping him out of the Bangkok detention facility.
I was impressed....

A single lottery ticket still is 80 baht out here in Khampaeng Phet province.
However if you want more tickets with the same number they are 100 baht each.
A single ticket will get you 6,000,000 baht and for every ticket you hold is another 6,000,000. Therefore 5 tickets with the same winning number will payout 30,000,000 baht less taxes.
I was told that its 80 baht.
But the registered sellers offload to the person who walks around puts 12 baht on.
Then the person who has the board puts 8 baht on.
Becomes 100 baht...

Possibly just an old derelict alchoholic who finally ran out of money.
See my post.
Not an alcoholic.
But certainly destitute.

Elder dumping is a problem in many countries, especially at this time of the year sadly.
I can tell you some of it.
He arrived in the station same day as the Austrian man people were slagging off about.
I sat talking to him about an hour.
(I was waiting to see someone)
He is 75, British.
Been living with friends.
Been here 10 years he said.
Is known to some bar people.
One lady was talking to him about his situation.
A friend... has access to his money. UK pension. Or what's left.
He was almost out of visa, or extension.
So no doubt overstay now.
Someone had dropped him with the police instead of immigration Jomtien.
He didn't have the 300 for a taxi to Jomtien.
Yes, the police really are helping him.
Some very helpful and caring front office staff there.
They contacted the embassy when I was there.
And were arranging to get him to Jomtien.
This was the 19th December.

What about using real patrol cars that can intercept faulty drivers on the road.
Road blocks do not stop bad driving !
They have to modify traffic laws too, so a faulty driver or uninsured car can be towed away at the owners expense
This will require police officers who have a mechanical knowledge, not to mention no persuasion towards corruption.
A hard ask....
Its nigh impossible to find a BIB that actually knows what the job description actually means....
Law enforcement officers.
I don't think so.
Unless they can make a few baht out of it.

Several words spring to mind. [<deleted>]
"Management Economics."
Both of these are sadly misunderstood in Thailand.
Many industries are built around domestic and export markets.
Domestic is normally made during normal periods and exports are made using incremental rates.
Quite simply if the domestic economy is out of kilter the ability to manufacture for export does not have a sound footing..
Throw in the rampant baht and in a nutshell nobody can produce anything for export in Thailand.
Not only does it depend upon the daily local consumption but also overseas countries being able to buy at an affordable baht rate.
Currently costs about 30% more to buy any product made in Thailand and export it...
So how do you export?
The big companies rely heavily on 2 shift 100 hours a week production.
It's simply not happening.
And when the multi national companies pull out, they need huge incentives to return...

I think any government plans in this country to form a committee, hold an investigation, meetings, or feasibility studies, normally leads to one outcome.
A number of fat cats getting fatter, and richer, and millions of baht being distributed in the plain brown paper envelopes.
A failure to plan, is a plan to fail.
Sadly they have had their noses in the trough too long, and obviously enjoyed the benefits of the out of control strong baht.

One of the first moves to bring any credibility into the law enforcement system is REMOVE all other flashing lights from non emergency vehicles.
That is the first step in a mentality approach.
All other countries where you see flashing lights triggers an immediate response to slow down.
In Thailand it could be a somtam seller on the side of the road.

Of course the response is going to be manned by dummy police.
Why not train the officers and have them do a real job, instead of thinking about ways to get rich from the public.

In the case of a ban, 5 years minimum is stated for anyone who is arrested and prosecuted on an overstay of under a year.
Read on..
I actually spoke with the chap yesterday at pattaya police station.
Bangkok family home a son too.
Something smells.
It was to do with a unpaid bill from 6 years ago.
Because he was in the cell he went one day overstay.
Sure he was very concerned about the possibility of deportation.
He incurred a 2000 baht fine.
He is at Jomtien immigration today to sort out the overstay.
Appearances are not everything.
I don't know the full story.
But I was talking to a translation assistant in the station and he was there.
Quite possibly someone stiffed him, or another debt collection department caught up with him?
Dunno..
But he was well treated.
And it looks like he will stay here.

Wrong. No ban.
I spoke to him today.
2000 baht fine.
One more night in the monkey house.
He has family in Bangkok and lived here 10 years.
The overstay was because he was pulled in for an unpaid bill.
And was in the monkey house.
All makes good reading though.
There's always a true story somewhere...

It will be same same, but different.
If the population is growing and the number of expatriates is dropping, suppose the figures will be higher, and a larger percentage of home grown lemmings will die.
They all drive with the same "Jack" principle.
<deleted> you, I'm alright Jack...
Que sera sera.
