These are the donations of big multi-nationals coming up with such ridiculous small amounts....no shame?!

It is sad when you consider liability insurance cover is like 5 million dollars in many countries.

But LOS they can self insure of have none at all.

(TripAdvisor actually mentions the same, and very little chance of getting a payout if a tourist is injured here, due to the legal system...)

    This is Thailand...

the report says that NO CHECKS ON MILITARY BASES , (<deleted>) well if that was me, that would be the first place i would look, this was an act of a cold killer. maybe proved wrong but that is my theory. thats a big reward, maybe his girlfriend will dob him in for borrowing her FINO ??

Fino, not exactly a man's choice of bike...

As you say, his girlfriend may be wearing a lot of bling, or just dob him in for a reward...

So if tourist numbers are so wonderful , why the need to scrap visas ?

Part of what you say here is showing up in the condos in Pattaya.

Many have been sold recently by European and UK owners at sacrifice prices. Like 500k baht.

Some (about 50%) are empty and deserted by the owners, who have not bothered to come back, even leaving furniture and bikes here.

The Chinese are snapping up these and we see many Chinese tourists here now.

Others have become low cost thai family occupation.

"expats, retirees, long term stayers" spend a decimal point in comparison to 35,000,000 tourists a year, staying a week each blowing 1000s of baht a day.

We could all pull up stakes and head home tomorrow and the Thais wouldn't give a rat's.

Have to agree to a point.

I know that we always have a go about the retirement population, but when you see what the Chinese spend going out at the duty frees, it's scary.

Possibly around the 20,000 mark easily.

XO cognac and similar luxury items.

It's not the "on street" spend, but Mr. King Power is certainly affording himself a great lifestyle.

Right, Top brass gather for a shoplifter, anyone who reads this and don't know much about Thailand will be excused to think that there are no crimes in this country and if the top brass is involved in a shoplifting case, Thailand must a country where the worst crimes are petty crimes...

The top brass usually get involved when there is a possibility of milking the perpetrator and helping him avoid lengthy sentences and reporting to immigration etc. etc..

They have to recoup their investments.

They call it greasing the squeaky wheel...

Reduced sentence, pay fine, non refundable bail to keep out of the monkey house, a generous offering behind closed doors to stop the immigration officers from getting involved...

after seeing all the other corruption and back handers paid the the top dogs in the procurement of anything in Thailand I wouldnt be surprised if surachate is spot on with his claim, we all are aware of the graft and corruption being rife here in Thailand especially with anything to do with govt contracts etc

Maybe the brown paper envelopes contract was up for review.

And a family member missed out getting it..

Well, seems like he's deflecting to me. Presumably it works, unlike the weird bomb detector thingamies, but I'd bet my dollar it's not value for money.

Joker claims foul play, Oaf (sic) claims its great and value for money. Hardly surprising since one was removed and the other inserted.

Crossing the border to Malaysia they have had fingerprint scanners for a decade, probably longer, welcome to 2020 Thailand...soon ????

Yesterday they were only randomly using the fingerprint scanner.

So it obviously can be ignored if they choose to.

One hand, two hands, two thumbs.

    Or not at all...

Not sure any foreigners would agree with that.

Two A380 arrived yesterday 1230 and it took 45 minutes to get through.

Several operators were not even checking the fingerprints.

The TM6 checkers were nowhere to be seen.

Many from the preferred tourist nationality were fronting up with incomplete forms.

The lady in front of me said nobody explained how to do it, so she is four from the front of a 500 queue and is about to be sent to the back.

    Still a work in progress.

Why not complete the clearance on line before arriving in Thailand?

Same the check in desks check passport information and visa in passport?

Glad I didn't pay for this system.

My 2 year car and bike both expire in March. They have any issues with renewing early?

I will be away working in March so i plan to go get my renewals before i leave. It will, be approx 1 month before they expire

I did both of mine prior to Christmas.

    Same reason.

Renewal is now 5 years 8 months.

    Up to the birthday.

Certainly no issues with early renewal at Pattaya.

    (For me, anyway)

Might need a pipeline & a good few billion investment and many years to build the pipeline might be one limiting factor?

Better spend on decent water than a 20 billion sky or monorail or subway system around pattaya...

They are in favour of, but not decided where it goes yet.

    But 20 billion baht...

  11. “Who says politics is about power and vested interests? I don’t want power or vested interests. Why don’t they trust me?”

I would think that even the simplest Thais with little education can answer that...

Get all politicians and government officials to disclose their interests, double salaries, gifts, free lunches...

Maybe they should work for the average thai wage and see how it feels...

  12. Just reading this article and I did a base enquiry as to Non O insurance.

I'm currently non O with retirement extension and 67.

AXA came back with entry level price of 90,000 baht.

    Same 400k / 40k inpatient/outpatient limit.

The large companies are quoting over 300k plus for the usual health insurance policies.

It's a far cry from the 30 baht a day thai citizen type coverage.

I would be more than happy to see a government regulated schedule that would give affordable care at around 50 to 100 baht a day. (Enforce for all tourists/retirees)
