Another bullet point to add to my long list of reasons never to visit Chiang Mai again. Why does any farang choose to settle in that grithole of a place?

Because Chiang Mai is not a grithole at all, because some stupid horny guys have a brain failure everytime they see cute girls smiling at them.
One of the first things I got told when I moved to CM was to avoid the venues at Chang Klan and Chiang Mai Land...

And you are doing your part how?

Don't know if YOU is Daveyh only, or others who read it.
If I am a YOU, i avoid to produce waste, give bottels to a place where they (hopefully) recycle it and avoid to spend my free time at places which are crowded by tourists...

Big Joke please send more immigration officials

to Chiang Mai,people are having to start to queueing

in the middle of the night,to be able to get a

number to be seen that day.unless you pay an

    agent quite a bit of money,then it's easy.it needs

    sorting out.

    regards worgeordie

    Agree !
Send more staff to CNX and let them work in short shifts, so they must not look in the moody faces of the retirees for hours who would be busy right on the day they have to go immigration.
"Every day I am bored, nothing to do! Why today I have to go there ?
BJ, please make it easy for both sides...

I'm disappointed by the obvious lack of swastikas!

we don't know the name of that hotel?

there is one strange thing in the photo: the door on the right, this kind of doorhandle and lock is quite rare in Thailand.

But the sticker on the aircon is quite authentic for LOS...

I see nothing wrong here all statements seem true to me as for a Chinese colony ,well they are bending over backwards to keep them coffers coming in .

I was at "Chinese Festival" Shopping Mall (former Central Festival) in Chiang Mai yesterday.
A lot Thai employees, some Westerners, some Thai tourists. But most people there where Chinese residents.
Or did I missunderstand the situation ?

In a previous life I was a Taxi driver back home for 28 yrs. It was a very rigorous system to get into the Taxi business. First off, one had to have an almost exemplary police record (a bag snatcher or molester would not be the most suitable person for the job).

Secondly, you had to have a thorough knowledge of the area you were seeking the licence for (city).

You had to have a car that was not over a certain age and was checked yearly, along with your meter (for not being tampered with for overcharging purposes, etc).

You had to dress respectably and have no "smells etc., in the car (body odour).  I could go on...

Then the "Hackney cabs started to appear. While they were regulated by the Government...they by no means had to go through the rigours. Many "real" Taxi men resented them greatly because they had mortgaged their homes or borrowed from the banks to set up a secure job that would earn them enough money to rear their children, send them to college and support their families. Then, all of a sudden one had this competition by people who had laid out very little money and had less expenses than the "real" Taxi man. Would a normal guy not get a bit "miffed" at this.

I would imagine that the likes of Grab and Uber would be cause for resentment for many Taxi drivers who have invested everything in the job only to see people with little or no "qualifications" being able to get behind the wheel of their car and start working at the same level...without many checks in any department...criminal past or abilities.

Nothing to do with whether there are enough customers to go around...or not.

If you think GRAB drivers have no check ups by GRAB, you think wrong.
Tuk Tuks are the kind of taxis in the worst technical conditions with many drivers obviously in the same bad mental conditions...
    Many red pick-up taxis are rented from a company for 250 - 500baht / 24 hrs.
What makes many drivers of the red trucks mad is that Grab drivers get tour jobs from hotels as well, without any legitimation.

What bought you to that conclusion ?

How did you come to the conclusion that I am a lonely old man needing to pay for company ?

I went into  bar to watch sports and I dont watch TV at home.

Radost Sportsbar, big screens, good food, big beer 100baht.
No mate, I am not the owner and I don't get commission!
Just to tell you an alternative spot (without the company of girlies) ...

3 pages of moan , winge, carp.

Basically about a bar in a city centre that is charging 100 baht more than the cost price of a bottle of beer.

    Welcome to Thai Visa Forums.

Time to set up a "Go fund me"page ?

Im just not "happy" about paying a 200 % mark-up on beer prices .

When , a few years ago , they were charging 80-90 Bart for a large Chang

I would quite happily spend a 1000 Baht for a night out

These days , two beers and thats it

Rent for the bars is getting more and more expensive, Chinese and backpackers don't barfine the "employees".
So the few remaining farangs have to pay more.
Thai business logics, please understand. ????

    2. Scottish man is very lucky that the Thai guy was a reasonable man.

    3. Scottish man is very fortunate he did not wake up this morning in hospital.

    4. Talking like that, in that tone and volume, on my property, i would have punched the guy. Sorry.

    5. Garage owner should have told the foreign blokes that the car/truck is needed to deliver alcohol.
    6. Foreign blokes would have offered their help bcoz it's an emergency job...

It's not OK in my book for foreigners to do this.

I agree with the OP if you have not got enough money to get home you should never have come, or do what my kids would do, ask ME for the fare to get home, I would (reluctantly) pay  for it, then give him some verbal when he got back!!
