You have to investigate the circumstances more. I have been on a much smaller wooden boat in the Maldives which was sailing in smooth waters all day to an island and diving and on the way back a storm blew up and it was getting a little concerning. We couldnt see where we were going even and almost ran aground.

I can swim well we had life jackets so I wasnt that worried even if the boat went down. But the chinese on board were praying.

So these boats it must have been an unusually big storm to sink them.

... and the operators where the only ones who could not check a weather forecast bcoz busy with counting money.
Let's blame the storm only ?

Money first, safety ………………..………...what safety ?

Two responsibilities exist with this tragic debacle, the boat captain who decided to ignore warning and set sail fully loaded - we have the captain claiming there were 5m sized waves as though he is trying to blame the waves, sorry but that doesn't fly, you took risks disregarding safety to line your pockets.

The 2nd responsibility is with the authorities (who incidently have now banned boats setting out) who should have enforced a sailing ban before this tragic event - but as usual they take action after the fact - a very common occurrence here which is too late and many people are now dead because of it.

Those responsible for both of the above should be arrested and face severe criminal charges - it is the only way the message will get across

This is a massive disaster considering the death toll all of which could have been avoided

Yes Thailand is safe for tourists …...right ?

    RIP

Thailand is quite safe if there is no salty water around...
    RIP all the poor chaps

Maybe I missed something here, but how did those boys get there in the first place ? I mean, surely they wouldn't have crawled through such narrow places when they were exploring the cave (obviously before the flooding came and surprised them). There has to be a passage that is wide enough for them to have walked to the place. Unless they all had speleology lessons before, but with no gear I doubt that's what they were doing. So I think it is quite possible to have such a rescue-tube in there ... but hopefully the water level will decrease enough for them to get out fast and without any harm! Great news, probably the best of the year. Hats off to all those involved in the rescue !!

Have you ever been in one of those caves ???

Wish they would get it right... "Compressed air"

    Compressed Air Tanks...

100% oxygen is likely to be fatal at a diving depth grater than 5 meters

And I do not see any tanks even marked up enriched air/Nitrox (air that is enriched with oxygen).

You remember me to my old mother !
Meanwhile everybody knows the difference, but you still have to show up with your knowledge ?

‘Poor coordination in cave search leading to waste of time’

    By The Nation

Lerpong Suansang, head of a search team of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department

A senior rescue official complained about the wastage of time caused by the lack of adequate coordination between several teams exploring shafts over Chiang Rai’s Tham Lung Cave.

Lerpong Suansang, head of a search team of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said there were several teams searching for shafts that could offer a passage to chambers in the cave where it is believed a 13-member football team could have been trapped.

Lerpong said several shafts had been searched that they only led to a dead-end but due to lack of coordination other teams also ended up searching the same shafts, assuming them to be new discoveries.

He said there should have been better coordination so that all the rescue teams were aware of which shafts had been searched.

You already know the answer to that.

TV posters are for talking and preaching and drinking, not for doing. The underlying cause of this appears to be a conviction that they know everything and that the mysteries of life always look less intimidating when viewed through the bottom of a beer glass.

    Hope that helps...

    Yes, your answer helps. Thnx.

They cant win these politicians lol ..

If they go ..they get told to stay away and not interfere ..
If they dont go , they get criticized for not " caring " .

I remember Aquino did not go to Tacloban in the aftermath of Yolanda , and was never allowed to forget it ..
particularly by his political opponents .

Warning says July-Nov for flood warning. But everyone know monsoon has already started and raining heavily.

Coach to be blamed for bringing these innocent boys to cave.

The excuse of this irresponsible acting "coach" may be: The sign tells floodwarning starting from July, but we went there in June.
Tragedies like this will happen as long as people don't be held /don't feel responsible for what they did.
In a few months or even weeks the next will probably run there and get in trouble only to post: We have visited this place and made some selfies.
Hopefully the young boys will be rescued and will fully recover - and learn...

These large SUV's have the turning circle of a bus plus people hug the inside before turning thus increasing the projection into the oncoming lanes. In my small truck I can do a U-turn using one lane. My staff when driving need two lanes

Doing a u-turn, using one lane only, means you end up on the right (fast lane) with your small truck ?
    Interesting...

  10. The Pajero driver did not pay attention to the traffic, big mistake.
Doing a wide u-turn to the very left lane instead of turning on the middle/right lane isn't that wrong I think - if lanes are free, bcoz the fast traffic will come from behind on the middle/right lane. Or am I wrong ?
The Vios driver - with 6 passengers! - made a major mistake, to go left into the line of the Pajero instead of going on the free right lane.
Did he watch the traffic ?? Maybe in the very last moment when one of his passengers started screaming...
But doing a runner, causing the accident or not, is not the way to do Sir !
    Rest in peace...
