  1. Student protests have always occurred to effect needed change. Conservatives always oppose change (that's why they are called conservatives). It isn't just in America. It isn't anti-Americanism but rather anti-policy. So many examples in history, not just the anti-Vietnam War demonstrations. Fisk University has a long history of student activism. In 1925, foundations providing endowments didn't want anti-Jim Crow law demonstrations. At the time it looked un-American or anti-American but today it seems justified in hindsight.
  2. Hard to live in Thailand without noise pollution.
  3. Makes one wonder if the police ever browse ASEAN Now. Hmm.
  4. The fact that both parties have no candidate that is younger and acceptable by most people is the reason you have Dozy Don versus Sleepy Joe. No point in complaining now.
  5. The aging population together with deaths from smog-induced diseases will really exacerbate the labor problem in the future.
  6. Strange, but when Hollywood moguls tried to pick up Marylin Monroe, people admired her sexiness and assumed she was leading men on. Because a guy tries to pick up a guy he is suddenly evil. Kevin Spacey hasn't been accused of rape but for trying to pick guys up. Why is it so interesting?
  7. The current head of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, has resided in Doha since 2016. Qatar has been called Hamas' most important financial backer and foreign ally. (Wikipedia). However, trying to stop reporting by the other side is still censorship.
  8. Not sure if America can ban the Chinese from the moon but they would if they could.
  9. This is getting confusing. First, the EC stated that the "MFP was ordered to stop all efforts to alter Section 112 via non-legislative means." Then, submitting a bill is somehow not legislative? The court cited that 44 MFP MPs submitted a bill proposing the amendment of the Section 112 on March 25, 2021. I'll let someone explain.
  10. Aliteration helps when giving nicknames. I dub him: Dozy Don.
  11. Iran is not Arabic so I don't believe they think twice about their Arabic neighbors.
  12. Agree this is not a result to be proud of, but then Thai expectations have always been low. That is why the rich send their kids abroad. Interesting to see the Communist Chinese getting the highest ranks in Asia and Tsinghua University at 12th globally. Looks like a sign of things to come.
  13. There are always good people.
  14. Not sure how they came to the total of 250,000. I wonder if they asked people, "Are you a prostitute?"
  15. No one has mentioned how 300 Baht would help improve tourism. How will such a small amount per person actually be seen in terms of returns? Actually, if tourists were given 300 Baht on entry, that money may help Thailand more. Imagine when word gets out. "The Thais are giving away 300 Baht at the airport on entry! Let's go!" "How much is that?" "Who cares? What other country is giving us beer money to go?"
  16. I didn't vote for him but hope he recovers.
  17. You missed the point. It is the same racialist drivel today as it was then.
  18. Trying watching the films Hurricane (2018) and Squadron 303 (2019) where they were castigated for speaking Polish together and we're racially discriminated against by the British. In the good old days...
  19. Seems like he can't handle his booze.
  20. Don't tell the electorate....
  21. I may have missed some news - have there been deaths at American universities? I do remember students protesting the Vietnam war. Three students shot dead in Ohio (CSNY). Were the protesters wrong in hindsight? I think young people have always protested. They still do.
  22. Back in the good old days... We were grateful for their help.
  23. Freedom, to speak, protest whatever, is in the Constitution. If kids want to take the Palestinian side, let them. The more debate the better. Only violence should be excluded.
  24. The country is England. Its language is called English. Not British. Great Britain contains the countries of Wales and Scotland too, which have their own languages but use English for convenience, so there is no British English. Received Pronunciation (RP) is the only British accent that has no specific geographical correlate: it is not possible, on hearing someone speak RP, to know which part of the United Kingdom he or she comes from. There are variations of English, like regional dialects. American is a variation of English. The dialect regions of the United States are most clearly marked along the Atlantic littoral, where the earlier settlements were made. Three dialects can be defined: Northern, Midland, and Southern. Each has its subdialects. As such, American English is just a variation of English, the same as in Canada, Australia and so on.
